G'day everyone, thanks heaps for all the support and positive comments. It's been about a week since this film went up and I wanted to leave a comment to answer some of the most common questions. Everything you see in the film is a very short/cut down version of what actually happened, somethings got left out because of this and other things like pulling the boat off the wreck, for instance, only go for 30 seconds not 3 hours to make the film watchable! . Graham and Amanda are true Aussie legends, when we offer them some coin for all their help they refused and when we insisted they absolutely refused. If you didn't pick it up from the film that tells you right there what type of people they are, all they wanted is we get together to share a meal and a yarn one time when they're on mainland ❤️ love those two! . Sat Phone, we have no idea why it didn't work. We tried many different numbers for about 20min using land lines, mobiles, mobiles with 61 at the start etc. with no luck. In Australia 000 is emergency but we didn't know about 112 as the international emergency number so that's one number we didn't try. . We were already 3 days into this trip and had gone through 3/5s of our supplies. We'd anchored the boat in the same spot each night with no issues but the night it flipped there was tons of rain, our best guess as to how the boat flipped is the auto bilge drained the battery and stopped pumping out the water, boat got heavy and in the current the back anchor pulled, the boat drifted over to the rocks on the right, lowtide + rocks + boat full of water flipped her and as the tide changed the current also changes direction at this spot and she ended up back to the left where you see her in the beginning of the film (there were scratches all over one side of the boat where it'd must have been on that rock at some stage). At that point the back anchor was probably tangled/connected to reef because the boat was sitting much closer to shore than where we anchored it but wasn't able to drift all the way to shore, so the back anchor was definitely still attached to something at that point. Not 100% sure this is what happened but it's our best guess! . We didn't know the Yatch was down the way at first and didn't know if the anchor ropes maybe snap or were damaged so we made the call to go get the epirb before we potentially lost the boat and had no way of contacting mainland. . The chartered chopper cost us 3400Aud and we found out that the coast guard to rescue us and salvage the boat would have been closer to 15k-20k . Dennis got his insurance and has a new boat on the way, his foot's all healed up so no wooden leg for Denny haha . Thanks heaps for the support and positive comments from all of you, definitely not how we would have liked to spend our fishing trip but when you're out in wild places wild stuff can happen! Stoked you all enjoyed the film ❤️ Yew! . (((EDIT))) There's a few more questions I keep seeing... . Why didn't we just pull the epirb? In Australia you can get in trouble for using an epirb if your life’s not in immediate danger. Because we had food/water and saw the yatch down the way I think we may have been fined if we’d pulled it. Not 100% sure about that but I was always told you should only pull an epirb as an absolute last resort! . How I could film for days? I have about 20 gopro hero 8 batteries, 15 hero 7, 11 rx100 batteries and 5 big powerbanks that can charge around 15 gopro batteries each. Dennis had a solar charger (pretty useless in the rain), but timmy had a massive lithium charger that can do around 300 gopro batteries. I usually constant roll for about 10 hours a day on these trips filming fishing and even though i’d already filmed for three days before this all began I didn’t need to borrow charge off timmy and was just careful with how much i filmed/able to charge with my powerbanks. . Why did we release the first big fish? GT to us are like our number one sport fish, they’re very special to us because of how hard they fight and how difficult they are from land. In general GT have a ton of respect from Aussie fishermen and are almost always released in Australia. We were out here three days leading up to the boat flip and ate coral trout, Tuna and more coral trout on those days (all super tasty), we didn’t realise how much the fishing was going to shut down over the next few days with the weather and were a bit over confident we could get more reef fish or tuna so we released the bigger GT. We prolly could have kept the first bigger G in hindsight but I'm not sure how long the meat would have lasted without ice and at that stage we didn't realise how long we were going to be out there. . Yes that's Baden from Ocean Alley and he loves his fishing! If you want to have a listen to his music look up 'Ocean Alley' on spotify or youtube. . !!!PROPS MISSING QUESTIONS!!! Dennis didn't want to leave the props on the boat in case someone took them before the boat could be salvaged, so we hammered the pins out with a rock and put them in an esky. You can see them clearly still on the boat in Timmy's film at 5 min 22 sec - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DLUd82a7uQA.html . To add to that, there's a ton of films on mine and Timmy's channels from the first three days leading upto this where you can see the boat in perfect working condition Timmy Films ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4R14A_vVZ2c.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p2joBZ_fN0k.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8eJSr6-sT6Y.html Briggsy films ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pgMdBwjhuwI.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-akWjqwDHEf4.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kqfsuo5wjEc.html . To be clear, Dennis made ZERO money from this film and definitely had no interest in flipping his pride and joy Contender so that I could film the whole ordeal and put it on my RU-vid channel, that idea is insane! Anyone who knows Dennis knows he would actually fight you if you put a tiny scratch on that boat, it was Denny's whole life, he made content in it, he took ladies out to the reef in it, mates on island camping missions, Denny and his boat were very popular, it was like his baby and he'd do anything to hold onto it! I think a lot of the people watching this now don't know the boys and our channels and because this film starts on the morning the boat flipped (and there's nothing leading upto it), people just think it's staged because there's a lack of context at the start, I get that and in hindsight should have edited it slightly differently but to be honest, never in a million years would have guessed people wouldn't think this is real haha. . For the people writing off the title "no way home" I considered changing it but thought about it and we really had no way home for 5 days so I'm going to leave it. . I hope this clears up some of the questions and helps to diffuse some of the hate this film's been getting! Thanks again for watching, and to those of you who enjoyed it I'm stoked you're all digging the film!

Depending on the circumstance, the rescue might've been free since you didn't just go out there with nothing and were prepared. Some hiker a few years back got hit with the bill cos he only went out with potatoes. You actually had a boat and it sunk, entirely not your fault.

It’s a plausible scenario that one might have to cope with - being caught out, on an island, with no comms, but not life threatening. I'm only a few minutes into this... y'all just grabbed the signaling gear... but having grown up on sailboats my first thoughts were... signals, cut the stern anchor loose, and drag the boat into shallow water where you can work on righting it. Pump or bail it out. Get some ground tackle set up and, the four of you being well-built individuals, start hauling her up on the beach. You would be far from the first crew that's fixed their boat and headed home late. Now I'm gonna go watch the rest of this and see what you actually end up doing. So far I'm really liking the lack of hysteria. Real positive energy from you. Conclusions... you guys were AWESOME!!! I not at all surprised at how the CatNap crew helped you out... that's simply the way it's supposed to work... but you guys did a great job supporting yourselves and finding help. Yes the EPIRB would have gotten you help faster, but it would have been exactly what you didn't want... an "all-hands" response. When I talked about rolling the boat over, I was thinking it was balanced differently... and perhaps rolling it out in deeper water might have worked, but probably not. Great effort, AWESOME energy, and a really great story. I'm super glad it all got straightened out. I would go to sea with you guys any day!

meh, 4 adult males with a few tree limbs as leverage and done deal. drag it on to the beach enlist the help of the 2 other adult males and u got 6 adult males with levers. dig a small hole on opposite side of the boat that u can flip the boat into in order to mitigate the over all height and weight you gotta lift. simple 4-5 hour task just a matter of doing it. seemed like they were in a more "i just wanna chill" mind set haha

@Rainersherwood 2 месяца назад
@@nickmunro3114yeah was a bit annoyed at how easily they gave up on righting the boat. At least try harder, even if it ends up not being possible. Tree limbs. Set up a pulley using the anchor rope. Dig out the gunwale stuck in the sand. Anything but pushing for 10 seconds and completely giving up.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing. Any real fisherman out on a boat would have some rope. The first thing that comes to my mind is bending some trees down. If you bent one tree down, and tie it off, then another, and repeat the process until you have it tied up to a dozen trees, then the four giving it a good pull, with the help of the trees, I figure you wouldn't need to worry much about man power anymore

I think his risk/ strategy paid off, they came at pretty much the most opportune time and we got to see a true survival experience because of it. This might sound devious to say, so apologies. But this is not a situation that is easy to recreate as a youtuber. Think if he immediately told him to contact family and send a chopper how much faster that would be, but then we would've gotten nothing out of it.

@@personwhohasayoutubechannel3I disagree that the fact they were recording it had anything to do with their strategy for calling for help. I think tey didn't want to be rescued by a chopper simply because they didn't know if they could afford it. They were not at the stage where they would think they are in a life threatening situation, so they most likely didn't want their family and friends to be worried and they were thinking about the costs for the rescue and material losses of the boat and other stuff they'd have to leave unattended. They had everything on shore so it was pretty much just a longer and more adventurous holiday and you could see there was fresh water on the island. You can last without food for a long time, too.

Mad respect to the Coast Guardsmen. One thing I learned from my time in service, and traveling out in the world is that.. outside of America and of "the west" which is a very small number of nations.. is that, there isn't anyone coming for you. You are on your own. American's in the CONUS have grown accustomed to having this safety mechanism deeply ingrained in us, but it just isn't true in so many places in the world. Not in a bad way, just in a "the world is absolutely massive and untamed" kind of way. That's what you're up against. Humanity has built in a rescue mechanism, or it hasn't. Hope your survival skills are good out there. Cheers.

I watched this with my father who was in the (us) coast guard for 25+ years. If they requested immediate rescue they would have came out. They play situations similar to these by ear and wait for an optimal time to go rescue those stranded. They had water, supplies and were in contact with another boat. Though it was an emergency, it wasn’t for them.

I don't know what it is about this video. Its probably the longest video on RU-vid ive seen, and ive seen it 5 times at that. There's just such a huge comfort this video brings to me. Idk if it's because I deal with anxiety, boredom, and loneliness, but this video combats all three. Something about 4 Australians stranded on an island making the best of it with jokes, fishing, and adventure just brings me such joy. It's an escape for me honestly, when im really down I come back to this video and watch it in its entirety every time, and enjoy/laugh at it like its the first time watching it. I hope one day to be stranded on island with 3 other mates who make it feel like its no big deal. Life is about risk, adventure, uncertainty, fun, laughs, love(on a friendship level in this case), and this video conveys all of them. Thank you Briggsy, for bringing me hope that there is still light and interesting aspects of life to look forward to.

I'm from Hawaii. Of all the tourists that come here, I'm not sure who I like better ... the Canadians or the Australians. I like the Canucks for their open, honest and unpretentious manners. They tend to act like guests and they are treated, accordingly. And I like the Aussies for their outgoing, gregarious nature. Never a dull party when Aussies are there. This video tale does nothing to dissuade me from my opinion. Aussies know how to keep their sense of humor when faced with adversity.

Future reference, try and get air under the boat by raising the tail of the boat out of the water more, getting it under the cabin floor if you will, then press the nose up with 3 folks while the other pulls the tail back down a bit to help leverage it up, get more air under it, then try to roll the boat.
