I loved La’An conversations and connection with Kirk and how she talks about her inability to connect with people. But she and Kirk get each other! Great episode.

Paul Wesley did a really good job at creating a new distinct character with a personality. Kirk and La'an had great chemistry and carried the episode

Loved how many laughs and variety of emotions I felt and were displayed in this. Emotional depth at end was awesome. Paul surprised and delighted. He won me over. Toronto as a character was refreshing.

Good thing the United Earth Fleet had the same resources available to build an identical ship to the flagship of Starfleet, despite a ruined Earth. Really saved on set decoration😂

Great opening Mr. Know-It-All. I was confused for a couple of seconds b4 I caught on. Loved it! BTW - nice beard. I'm jealous. 🙂

And how about La'an going toe-to-toe with a Romulan? Remember that Romulans and Vulcans have much greater physical strength than most other non augmented corporeal species. So her throwing hands and holding her own showed how badass she is. I could see that while the Romulan had the strength, La'an had the skills.

I had thought that Pelia mentioned Vermont to make sure La'an still makes contact.

Is anyone asking how Spock actually exists? If there was no alliance between Earth and Vulcan.
@nooneatall8072

He might be fully Vulcan. Or there could still have been a relationship between Sarek and Amanda. Just because there is no alliance does not mean that there was no contact.

Terrible episode. AWFUL JUST AWFUL. I'm Canadian too. You can't talk your way out of a car theft in TO in the 21st century or get over the US border without passports.

Still watching this, but I just wanted to say this while it was fresh in my mind, before I figured out what you were doing in the first few seconds I was gonna scroll to the comments and be all like, "Brave New Worlds??? Mr. Know-It-All, did you misspeak?" Well played! XD

OK, Professor Know-It-All, I loved this episode because while Khan died, it stopped the Eugenics Wars from happening. Maybe the United Earth Fleet and the Romulans can team up? 😛

Another good episode. Some hand wavy stuff with the watch but still a worthwhile attempt to correct to timeline-especially for the Trekkies who grew up on TOS .

Those watches were real and radioactive, albeit mildly, that made the hands glow in the presence of gas enclosed within the face capsule. It is a very realistic solution to remove the cover glass so that it will glow in response to radioactivity in the area. A very cool, albeit slightly modified, solution based on real science used in a 80's era actual world watch technology. I love when ST utilizes actual science in its storylines.

Just a tiny nit-pick: The Flash and Supergirl series were filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia which is about 3400 kilometres west of Toronto, Ontario.

I think this episode also did something very important forthe Franchise's canon: establish how nobody mentioned La'An in the TOS. It's perfectly possible that, in the lastseason, she gets recruited by the Time Agency, and as part of the deal she needs to have every memory andrecord of hers erased.

What's up know it all been a minute. I always feel that Star Trek overuse is time travel. But they do it because of people like me because I absolutely love Time travel where they Star Trek Doctor Who Stargate Farscape Battlestar Galactica the list goes on at all. This was a great episode started out a little slow but boy it ended really well. I love how it was very self contained. Love how they've moved the timeline farther out they're kind of doing a terminator remember how judgment day was supposed to happen and they stop judgment day and T2 and then later on in number three he says you didn't stop it you just delayed it. Well now they record it to where the stuff with cod doesn't happen in the 90s it happens later on in the 2000s. I don't know how that's gonna play with everybody but I thought it was a pretty good Retcon.

Near the end of the review, I don’t get your comment how about young Khan’s appearance might seem inconsistent with canon. Didn’t he grow up to dominate about a third of the Earth (vaguely “Eurasia”)…. So everyone, except for that particular “present day“ timeline should know him as World-threatening Hitler type - worse than a Putin or Trump?
@arealknowitall
@arealknowitall Год назад
I always imagined Ricardo Montelban looking more Latin but the kid looks more middle eastern or Indian??? My statement about canon was more about how Kirk and them knew about the man but didn’t recognize him in sight. I think we would all recognize Hitler if we stumbled upon him. The Eugenics war feels much more present than it ever has in Trek before.

@@arealknowitall I just killed some time reading up on Genghis Khan and the Mongol Empire but yes, the issue is how did TOS Kirk/Spock in NOT recognize him? That’s a question for the writers room, if SMW ever revisits. Nailing down all these details in any series, prequel, or sequel, is very oriented toward long-term fans, who are canon sticklers. We’re all gonna die off one day, so the issue is how do writers balance fan service with I need for a new storytelling, cano be damned? (Which is what cost Disco so much fan love. I hope the last season of disco is as good as season three of Picard. The cast and crew deserve that for all the effort.)

@@arealknowitall The kid looking more middle eastern or Indian, is actually a *correction* from canon. Khan Noonien-Singh is supposed to be an Indian Sikh, who eventually rises to control 1/4 of Earth. The rest of Earth pushes back and eventually manages to overthrow Khan, and exile Khan and his followers aboard the Botany Bay. As awesome as Ricardo Montalban's portrayal was, he shares a distinction with Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal, in that they were both miscast for the role.
@AgentM79

And Trump threatened the world exactly HOW? I don’t recall him starting any wars.
@AgentM79

@@ReelMeurikMiscast? Ricardo Montalban’s portrayal of Khan was EPIC. Twice-over! And we probably wouldn’t even be talking about Trek now if TWOK wasn’t such a resounding success. Benedict Cumberbach did a great job of portraying Khan as well. He actually surprised me, as I avoided reading up on the movie prior to seeing it (to avoid spoilers). The misdirection of the character’s name made me think Khan was going to be another character. I hate the Kelvin timeline and the Trek “reboot” movies. I hope they just let it die out. SNW is the new face of Trek, and it is OUTSTANDING.

As a longtime proponent of the history of Star Treks Earth being an alternate history, I have always wanted the Eugenics Wars to be depicted as an overt global war from 1992-1996.However due to errors and the urge to retcon Star Treks history with ours they have inexorably moved it into the early 21st Century. So this episode is a mixed bag as it firmly protects the 1992-1996 date of the EW-admittedly as an alternate timeline but very frustratingly it takes us right to the beginning of the alternate EW even before that really, but it still doesn't give us real details about who what and when of the EW. Also, no more real details about the Lanthanites on Earth hopefully that will be addressed later with more details about both.

I think it's deplorable that P+ takes Prodigy off the platform, but adds a new show named _Brave_ New Worlds.
