Hermann Hesse, I do declare! Was very "in" when I was a teen. Amazing that he wrote this kind of stuff, and now read by a true actor-narrator master. THank you indeed!
A masterpiece of spoken word. Very reminiscent of Orson Wells - there can be no greater accolade. The fairytales of Hesse seem perfect literary content.
hi edward. :) so this is who you are. you do have a presence on the screen. also, in ‘60’s parlance, you are quite pretty :) you should do this more often. great lighting, btw. ~Keep safe 🌷✨🙃
You're kind. I've done the on camera "Intros" and "Outros" for the past 3 weeks. I hope they will improve . But whatever their quality I think they make the storytelling more intimate. I was just thinking after completing Strange News, that I work (when I'm not quarantined) with actors who make this sort of thing look easy. It's not. Peace & safety. E.E.F.
edward french hi Edward - j know i’ve tried and i do sound like an okay Librivox reader :P :). i grew up in the theatre. my parents were in musicals. i remember when Schubert Alley was just that (it’s just glitzy now - Yuppies ruined it). it’s where the stage doors were. i did back stage stuff off off off for a while. i loved it. and i miss the atmosphere so much. you’re appearing on screen does make it more intimate - you’re right. whatever work you are doing on your readings, they are very professional: your voice has a good timbre and modulation. (you should read some of the scary parts of the play we don’t mention. i think Macbeth himself has some good ones. not like Lady Macbeth, but good. :). how about “The Picture of Dorian Grey” or did i mention that already? peace to you, too. ~ alexa. :) 🌷✨🎭
Thanks again, Mr. French! I'm really enjoying these tales. They really put me in the mood for the old magazine Weird Tales :) Any chance you could do your magic on some Mark Twain stories? 'The Mysterious Stranger' or 'The Diaries of Adam & Eve', perhaps?
good story - wonderful reading. oh my gosh, duh - it’s Hesse - no wonder it’s so mythical and has such depth. 🌷✨:) just to let you know - the pronunciation of Hesse includes the final ‘e’ as in set. in German, his poems are beautiful and have the same sense as this ethereal story. 🎋
Thanks, Alexa. I went for the usual (common) Hesse pronunciation. And I omitted the name of whomever translated it because it wasn't included with the text I have. E.E.F.
