Disney plays fast and loose with their toy licenses, Last I heard they gave Hasbro the rights to their dolls just a few years ago, apparently Mattel isn't doing too well.
So happy you included the barbie show! When I was a kid I had the VHS tape of her birthday party. I watched so many times that I broke the tape lol. Core memory unlocked :)
So happy to see the Barbie show included! I wore my copy of that VHS tape out, and was disappointed when the show had ended by my first trip in 7! "you've got the touch, the Barbie touch!"
The kites are now being recycled for the new Epcot Forever show, nice. Don't know why they thought a circus in Epcot was a good idea. It's a good idea for Disney Springs, however. I'm excited for the new Cirque du Soleil show
The Barbie Birthday Party VHS tape!!! Yes, I got it for a penny with the purchase of a Barbie at Toys R Us (I believe it was a doll that came with sparkle hair gel to comb into her long locks). My little sisters and I watched this tape until we wore it out. A few years ago I found it online, for more than a penny, and bought it again for nostalgia. The hosts are hyper and delightful, living the fantasy life of girls like me (obsessed with scrunchies, Lisa Frank stickers, and bright colors). It was also my first view of Epcot, and it did a pretty nice job highlighting aspects of the World Showcase pavilions. And as you noted, the music is catchy! I'm glad you played my fave! "You got the touch... the Barbie touch..."
I was 8 when my parents took me to Epcot the week it opened. I’ll never forget that day! I miss the old Epcot but my god am I looking forward to what they’re doing over the next few years.
This was way back in the era before equal opportunity employment, They would not necessarily hire a Lgbt workforce or anyone that did not necessarily worship the mouse, At this point in Epcots early days. Which is odd when you consider that the young Regis Philbin and Michael Eisner had been Seen by quite a few members of staff and public having a tryst, and unexpectedly getting caught in the dream finder pavilion. Excellent presentation but this park has always been somewhat of a dark horse.
One weird EPCOT show I wish I could have seen in person was the Future Corps. They were a small drum corps made up of former DCI members that would do various performances of jazz charts around Future World with marching choreography. My favorite part was the bass drum player who wore a triple bass drum harness with one lofted up to give him a view hole to see.
I had that Barbie's Birthday Party VHS tape when I was a child and I watched the heck out of it, so Barbie + Epcot is so ingrained in my memories that it seems normal to me. Though I have to say, I watched it again on RU-vid recently and omg those host girls have way too much over-dramatic fake excitement it's almost unbearable. I feel sorry for my parents.
At least the Barbie Show in Epcot is better than that Barbie movie that just came out. Looks like Regis is trying to out-dork the guy who usually dorks in these videos.
