They thought about his death because Steve was written has a grade A son of a bitch. Like worse than the simple douchebag he was in season 1. He was even written to rape Nancy in one of the early drafts. But Joe Kerry had such a level of enthusiasm in his performance that they rewrote his arc into the lovable big brother we know him as today

Steve is the goat of babysitting and protector, he will be in the history books with that title. He cannot die, he literally kept Dustin under his wing since S2, and protected all the other kids also

This is the reason why I think he will die before S4 ends. Those kids losing their protector is going to hit them hard and will drive the story in S5.

I love Steve as much as the next person and as sad as I and everyone else would be, imagine the impact his death will have on everyone, especially the kids. They’ll be motivated to just obliterate the threat of the Upside Down once and for all, and could lead to an epic conclusion in the fifth and final season. Could raise the stakes to a much higher level as well.

Joe Keery is a bit long in the tooth to be playing Steve, but the character of Steve is so entertaining to watch that I’m so glad they kept him instead of killing him off. It just wouldn’t be the same without his humor in S2 and S3.

My prediction is that Steve will die in part 2 or season 5 and him and Dustin will share an emotional moment where they acknowledge that they're like brothers. That would emotionally hit audiences like nothing else could.

I am a zookeeper in chicago and I regularly feed the hippos day old sausages so they have a taste of their home. I put strings on the sausages and swing them around the hippos they get so mad at me and scream but it's an obsession sometimes the hippos try and break out of their cages but I keep swinging those hotdogs in wide circles over their heads. Luckily my boss doesn't know I do this or my cowork
