Here in England, when I was a youngster in the 1950s, there was no Stranger Danger paranoia like there is today. We mixed freely with grown ups all the time and regarded any man who was nice to us as a friend. I was allowed a lot more freedom to roam in those days than the children of today are allowed and during the school holidays was often out all day, only going back home in the evening. It was a different world back then, probably because in those days, parents never thought about someone being sexually attracted to their child and so it wasn't something they worried about. These days, because they are constantly being bombarded with the subject, they think about it all the time.

When we moved to California from Phoenix in 1960, Mom told me to run away from strangers and tell her immediately. Well, a year later this balding man stopped in front of the house and wanted to give me ball point pen (geez, I still remembered that pen, brass-colored top and a blue-plastic lower half). Well, I told Mom and she hot-footed outside, mad as all get-out and ready to shred this man's head. Turned out it was my Godfather who drove from Phoenix to Sacramento for a visit!

i seen one from the u.k. warning kids to stay out of thrown away fridges. apparently that was a problem back then.

@@NoirL.A. kids hiding in refrigerators?? Yeah---for fans of the 80"s show Punky Brewster...Season 2 episode had one of the main characters Cherie lock herself in the fridge while playing a game of hide n seek.....that's the problem in the U.K. and Im not even from the UK!

Yeah, parents never thought about it, so it didn't exist. How many children, I wonder, were exploited without hinderance because it wasn't brought to the public's attention?

Film says it was filmed in Glendora. I recognized one of the main streets in downtown. It's still a nice town and looks similar to the scenes filmed here. I imagine it was very rural back then. There was a lot of space in between towns that seem to be very near each other because of freeways and wider streets. I miss that feeling of wide open spaces. Really felt that your town was very different from the next one.

This was a remake of Sid Davis' earlier film The Strange Ones...however, rather than using a policewoman character to do the VO, Davis does so himself (as he did in a # of his films) and altered the first plot point to have the girl in question not go off with the stranger who offers her a ride (in TSO, the girl goes with the stranger, but the saleswoman in the store takes down the car's plate #, thus allowing the police to track her down, with the rest of the film presented as the policewoman sharing safety tips while the girl awaits her mother's arrival at the police station).
