Hello and welcome!
Thank you for watching this video! My name is Lia and I try to upload 1-2 videos every week. I’m 14 years old and my channel is about art. I like to draw realistic with colored pencils and acrylic colors.
In this video I will test the Strathmore Bristol paper with the Vellum Surface and the Strathmore Bristol paper with the Smooth Surface for the first time. I will also try to explain the differences between these two papers and give you my opinion on this paper.

Hello Aira 👋 Thank you for posting this video. It is exactly the comparison I have been looking for. I am new to coloured pencils and have just bought a set of FC Polychromos. I have been looking for a video to demonstrate the difference between SB Vellum & SB Smooth papers, and your video is full of useful information. Your artwork is beautiful, you are so talented. (Also, your English is excellent). My only (very tiny) piece of critical feedback is that I don't like background music in videos, as I find it rather distracting. However, that is just my preference. I look forward to seeing more of your work . Best wishes 😊

Hello, thank you for your very kind and nice comment. It makes me very, very happy that you liked this video and that I could help you with this video. Thank you also for the honest criticism that you don't like background music. That helps me a lot, because it allows me to improve my videos even more. When editing this video, I wasn’t very sure about this point, whether to add background music or not. So I'll probably pay more attention to that next time. (Because I can understand that it is a bit distracting.) Glad you're new to coloured pencils. I myself love to draw with coloured pencils, I think you will feel the same way. I am sure you will create many beautiful artworks with your Polychromos. I hope you have fun drawing with them! Best wishes to you, too!

I hated using Prismacolors on Smooth. The Vellum is much easier to color. In the end i do my drawings on Smooth Bristol because it lets me erase way better than thin sketch paper. I copy the Smooth drawing over to a new Vellum page than color it in deep color using Prismas. Not all Vellum is the same. There is a rough and smooth Vellum, apparently. Mixed media also can be good for colored pencil. Anyway i tested and found a pleasing Vellum in 14 x 17 and Smooth pads in 11 x 17. And there is 4 ply Vellum in 28 x 32 i think too, but they are maybe too big for regular drawings.

You did an awesome job with your drawing! The result looks rough because of the type of pencil you are using. They are oil based and don't produce a smooth result unless you go slowly and do several light layers. Prismacolor Premier colored pencils are wax based (and much less expensive than the Polychromos) and will give you the smoother result you are looking for, but still you will have to go slowly and when in light layers to get the effect you are looking for. Keep going and I know that soon you will be an amazing artist!

It’s useful to know that the vellum can take more effort with blending. My hands are a bit painful so every easier step is good.

Hi this very good for only been drawing as long as you have, I use pollychromos and have tried a few different paper, I find vellum is the best although apparently not press watercolour using mineral spirits is a great option too

The front of the paper package says it’s 100 lb paper not 60.

Thank you for your comment! Only the paper I used before had 60 Ib (so 90 gsm), maybe you got it mixed up with this.... 🤗🌸
