Polychromos and Luminance 6901 pencils are top quality pencils designed for the demands of professional art, so you will want to pair them with a high quality, durable paper that will bring them to their best advantage. 100% rag Bristol board , 500 series Strathmore, and Stonehenge are all ideal choices. If you will be taking advantage of the Inktense water-soluble properties, pair them with a 140lb/300gsm hot pressed watercolor paper that will resist buckling or distortion when wet. +Gramelda O'hara For the best results it is best to stretch 140 lb and lighter watercolor paper. 300 lb or lighter weight paper that has been permanently mounted are the only options you don’t need to stretch.

+SophiaCanDraw If you found the paper too absorbent, then changing to the 300 series will not fix that issue. Instead, consider a marker paper, which will have a smoother less absorbent surface. Strathmore makes an excellent marker paper: www.dickblick.com/products/strathmore-400-series-marker-pads/ . Though to answer your question, the main difference between the 300 and 400 Mixed media is the weight. The 400 is heavier for finished drawings, wet applications, and more resilient to reworking. The 300 is thinner for dry media and sketches.

+Chris Elsbury A3 is technically 11.7 x 16.5. It is generally rounded up to 12” x 16” for American paper sizing. Not all Strathmore lines will offer this size, but they will usually offer larger sizes that could be cut down to the 3A size.
