In the past 6 months, I’ve come to the realization after 62 years on this earth, that people are inconsiderate butt-faces, especially on this side of the Ambassador bridge (American). Dave I really have learned quite a lot from you man! Please don’t lose faith in the decent folks who really enjoy you and your expertise!
I don't know why anyone would want to be rude to Dave. He's a light hearted ray of sunshine in these dismal times. I look forward to every new DWOFS video. Never change Dave.
Same here! Dave is awesome he has a personality that may rub some people the wrong way but people havent figured out how to keep it to themselves yet immature folks its okay they live that way we dont 😊
Henry Rollins used to tell a story about he and a friend who sometimes hung out with a well- known homeless person in Washington DC who was referred to as "Crazy Paul", aka "Sky King". Henry said that despite Paul being bipolar, perhaps schizophrenic, he would occasionally say samething that struck them as incredibly profound. After the guy died, a newspaper obituary encapsulated the backstory of the string of tragedies that led to his life unraveling: in the space of a week or so, Paul's mom died unexpectedly, he discovered that his business partner had been not only embezzling from their restaurants, leaving nothing but debts, but had been having an affair with his fiance, and there was something else that went bad as well, and poor Paul had a breakdown. Bad shit can happen to anyone.
After 40 years of owning and playing I've learned how to keep my guitars playable. However, watching your brilliant videos it's easy to get the feeling that 90% of the world's guitars are set-up like a cheese grater.
I don't know why anyone would give you a hard time, I enjoy your videos and have learned a lot from them, I work on guitars myself the truth is you taught me a lot in these videos. please keep up the good work. Thank you
Dave, I watch you to see the beautiful work you do on guitars, but your non-guitar comments about actually seeing your fellow human was beautiful. Peace to you Brother.
I've gotten a lot of great pointers from your channel, Dave. I appreciate that! Never too old to learn new and different stuff! No rules, only guidelines!
Fantastic message Dave, some people these days just want to tear down instead of building....haters are going to hate no matter what, us lovers (of anything, life, guitars and music) are going to keep loving. Keep up the great work brother. 🤘✌🤘
Stew Mac located in my part of the realm is very proud of their Bruhaha.. I'm sure they have reasons for their prices. I realize they have been around, I just can't think that high..Lol
@@rodiebobwilliams1330 Part of the absurdity of Stew Mac is what they charge for shipping. I've purchased 49 cent items from them that cost me $7.00 in shipping.
@@jltrem I hear you.. I managed to trudge through the mod with a steel beam, a triangle file, lots of sandpaper, and steel wool.. I used a utility razor to identify the unlevel frets.... Only thing I felt shaky on was a slotted ruler, straight neck...All went well though.. However it was an exorcise to learn.. PS if Dave was closer to me I would endure his displeasure and beg him to duet!! Lol
Thank you for everything you do and talk about, Dave! You are a good human being and if ppl are giving you grief then they don't understand what they're missing. Chin up! 👍🏻
This was so timely, I just polished /spot leveled my frets... with sand paper :) I'm sorry, I'm a poor man, I don't have any tools, but for $2 worth of sand paper (and about 5 hours of work...) I have shiny, rounded frets again! yay!
I caved and bought the Pick-Up Measuring 'Tools' from The Evil Empire. Once I got over the price, everything else was actually pretty good. The Shipping was Free, it shipped the day I placed my order - confirmed by an email, the packaging was above average, and it arrived in only 3 days via US Mail -- that was a BIG shock. (see below) Conversely, I also bought that Notched Straight Edge direct from Neck Check. The price for that was great, BUT - I had to pay Shipping Costs - shipped 1st Class via US Mail. The Straight Edge was packaged in a cardboard tube to protect it from damage, it did and does (I still use it to store it). I also got a confirming email for the order & when it shipped w/ a Tracking Number and then I waited... and waited... and waited... and waited. I waited SEVENTEEN DAYS (that's >17
I don't understand why people feel the need to comment how much they dislike someone on RU-vid. When I dislike something, I don't waste my time watching, or commenting.
Gosh darn (clean language rule) I dislike (didn’t use the word hate) it when my back gets jacked up. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills Dave.
dave you always do a amazing job on guitars and with these videos. ive learned books of knowledge from you and i thank you. to the people that criticize, get a life. thank you dave!!!!
I was watching a movie from 1955 called Tight Spot. In the movie some people were watching a TV show and there was a band playing and the guy was playing a Fender Stratocaster.
I can't even fathom who would have something nasty to say about you, Dave. People just have problems they can't deal with any other way. Keep on doing your thing man. You make content so many people love compared to the number of losers who use something you upload as a tool to try and push down so they feel pulled up.
dave it's interesting to know what you know and how you do it and i like your stories you should do them more often cause i like watching your show/movie !!!!
Dave, the message you put out in this video really hit home for me. We do have to be good to one another because you just never know who your talking to and what that person has been through up to the point when you talked with them. I had spent a couple days visiting my ailing father several months back and we got the news that he only had weeks if not days left. I went to work literally right after hearing that news. I worked an overnight shift managing a team of support agents for a diabetic insulin pump. So I had to take over a call from one of my people because they asked for a manager. The bottom line was this lady wanted us to do something that I just could not approve in good conscience. Just because she was barking so much didnt mean we could break protocol. Then she went where I never expected her to go. She says "you have no idea what I'm going through and if I die it's going to be your fault" she screamed a few more things about my family and I was just stunned she would bring my family into it. I really didnt know how to respond to her because we had just been given the news about my father, which part of his issues were from diabetes. Anyway, I was frozen for probably a good 2 minutes just speechless. Needless to say her situation did not qualify for what she wanted me to do and I denied her request got her off the phone and probably for the first time in over 20 years I had to leave work due to that incident. It really messed me up. We have since lost my father but when I left work that day I went and spent more time with him. You just never know what that person you are speaking to has just been through, as Dave says we really do need to be good to one another. It would really kill me if I knew I did what lady did to me, to someone else. So I'm always doing my best to treat everyone good. Your a good man Dave keep up the great work!i
Hey Dave man l learn a lot from you man l wish l could be around you to learn more afrom a great 👍 smart guy GOD Bless ya Dave and stay safe out there 👍
I've watched this guy for years. I've worked on gear for years. His work is exemplary. His tools are correct and on thee level. Anybody who doesn't get this is not worth a squirt of piss and for god sake I hope you don't take your gear to them. People that get off on picking out what they feel other people do wrong are most often just a Brainy smurf.
Great. BTW, I also have a back that can give me trouble as well as knees and ankles if I stand too long on concrete. About 15 years ago I started wearing, on recommendation, ECCO shoes which have alleviated much of the problem and , while not cheap, last foe years.
Many years ago (1999?), I met one of the last of the real Hobos.. old timer comes into a bar (in a town of 200 people, middle of the mountains in Colorado).. I was bar tending, and stayed open to let him have a drink.. while he sat there I asked him a little about his life, and he told me that "You will meet all kinds of people in life: They all have a lesson to teach you, it is your job is to figure out what that is" (they have to teach you).. I am reminded weekly of this, still..
When I worked at Gloucester and Isabella, (right off Jarvis in the middle of rainbow village) I had a group of college students come into my office. They were doing a study of homeless people in T.O., and what made them homeless. I asked them if they ever considered doing a study of what they were doing before they became homeless. They said they might consider it, but wondered why I would ask that. I told them it had been my experience after talking to some of them, that they may have been pretty successful in the business world, until the drugs got them. It didn't matter to me why they got caught up in that lifestyle, just that they did. Your story reminded me of that.
Great message Dave. I've been watching your videos since 2012-13, since I started playing guitar. And I love your sense of humour, the tips you give, how you talk, it's been fun. You used do fret work a lot more often sometimes. And it kept getting better. Some people just forget that those behind usernames are people too. It's sad. Never mind them, keep rolling your videos like you always do. Hope your back gets better :) Ps: As an aside, do you remember a mini-star guitar you once fixed, you had this little jingle you made in that video. It still gets me laughing. Cheers
Micro Mesh with the foam pad that comes with the metal polish kit version is a great way to polish the rets after level/crown, as well. As for your back, try lying on your back and pull your knees up to your chest as far as you can. Also, try tucking your chin in, while lowering it as far as you can, and that helps loosen the muscles in the lower back. They adaptively shorten when you injure your back. When you lie down, put your heels down, and stretch your spine out. This loosens up the vertebrae and that helps the discs to heal.
What Dave said regarding not trying this stuff (if you're a rookie like myself) on a guitar you like are wise words. Squiers and other low end guitars can be found all day long for under $100 and are perfect for learning guitar repair and set up. If I don't screw up I have a better playing guitar that I can give away to a kid who wants a guitar. If I do screw it up at least I'll have some extra parts laying around.
Was on the live stream for a bit, I enjoyed it Dave. The StewMac info was good but I missed the tool supplier you talked about, if you care to, please share it again?
Hosco, I believe it was. www.hosco.co.jp/en/ Their stuff is probably available through internet orders, maybe on Amazon or something similar. Google is your friend here.
At social gatherings, my wife occasionally mentions that I'm, "antisocial." My standard explanation is, "I like people. I just have a low opinion of humanity, in general." Illigitimi non carborundum, Dave.
Hey Davey, what size workboot do you wear? I'll buy your back a pair or Dr. Scholl's work boot insoles. They helped my old back wearing Redwings steeltoes.
As you speak, I’m on my back in bed waiting for my Lyrica and Zanax and CBD oil to kick in and give some relief from a very bad Sciatic Nerve problem. Rock on 🤘
I recently bought a used squire. I’m putting a guitar fetish Brian May setup on it. They make pickups that sound like the ones he used along with a multi switch pick guard that allows for phase switching as well as pickup selection. Wish me luck! I don’t get why people make rude comments, but they seem to thrive on it. I try to be constructive with the comments I leave, and yelling at the sky seems to help some days! Now, if you read my comment here, and have any tips on doing what I am going to attempt, I would appreciate it. That’s how we learn! Can’t we just be good to each other? We should! That’s what it should be about! My wife was listening to an interview on NPR, where they were talking to the top Rabbi of the Jewish Faith. When they asked him what all the rules and laws in the Hebrew a Bible was about, if he could narrow down the 500 or so laws they are supposed to follow, he said it all means to be good to each other! My Mother taught me that to hate someone means you wish that person was dead. To hate a thing is different. But you can say you dislike it and it would mean the same thing.
heads up to those who have the 22 fret extended fingerboard . it is even more important than usual to humidify your instrument. when those little lips dry out, the curl. I've heard luthiers call this "potato chipping." your 21st and 22nd frets will be high and ruin an otherwise good neck. Humidify!!
Are you putting the capo right on the fret wire at the 1st? Are you doing the same with your finger @ 17? Or are you checking them in a playing position close to the fret? Does it make a difference? Thanks!
I was thinking, don't go there, the other day when I was radiusing a new fret board 'how flat is flat'? Is there any significance to the 4 thou measurement? Thanks.
You told us not to do this on a guitar we like if we've never done it and didn't have the tools,so, how did you learn? Did you practice on cheap stuff, how many guitars did it take to learn? Who taught you?
Lol if you think ppl that are making those comments live in their basement and care if they lose their account... go outside dave they do that in public
I'll never understand an adult who says, "The people on the internet said mean things." Either the statements are wrong, or right. If the person is wrong, say how it is wrong. If they are right and you don't like it, just take it like a man. If its just silly nonsensical things that really have nothing to do with you, delete it. But the genuine surprise cracks me up. Either you are naive or you don't like the truth when you hear it, or maybe you find it difficult to defend a good point. Most do.
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff What does that mean? Strange that my articulate paragraph was followed up by a single nonsensical sentence. I like your videos but I can't understand your personal opinions. And coming from a guy who regularly roasts the people who offer you business because they didn't ask or say something the way you wanted. You never have to mention personal stuff about clients but I assumed you were a jokey, back and forth, gives shit kinda guy, but when someone throws something your way, you pull the, "World is full of meanies" card. Its just unreasonable.
