Met the guts a few years ago , Farewell Tour Europe... Slim Jim broke his arm the night before in London.... I had a hotel room in the Marriot beside the Manchester Academy.... I was there for their concert , anyway I came out the lift and saw Brian and Lee go to the bar and i was star struck. I had been listening to them since I was born .. my father is a rocker... I followed them and I got the better of myself and said to Brian that I was very sorry about Lee.... long story short , he bought me a drink then invited me to join them for fish and chips and pink champagne... and got rat arsed .. what a night.

and it isn't recorded in mono single track, the sound is way more dense than actual 50s records. That is also why live concerts in the 50s were SO good. Real sound, not a tin can sound de-tuned for car stereos and a single 8 ohm dash mounted speaker.
@tracykingston9668
@tracykingston9668 10 месяцев назад
@@SuperChuckRaney Yup, studio recordings were "compressed" for AM radio because of the bandwidth issue. Then FM came along and made a vast improvement of the frequency range of the broadcasted tune, but people needed good equipment to take advantage of the FM signal. In the old days of the first FM radio music, most cars couldn't take advantage of it, but homes did a lot better. Just IMHO.

I love these live takes of the Stray Cats. To this day, Leon Drucker/Lee Rocker plays bass uncredited on loads of stuff, especially upright acoustic bass. His slapping compensates for the lack of a full drum kit, and the backbeat that He and Slim Jim Phantom generate in this vid is incredible. It allows Brian Setzer free range on the guitar. Playing a semi-acoustic guitar live at volume is a sound guy's nightmare, but Setzer is in total control of his instrument. Add that to the sheer energy of the song, Setzer's singing, and the showmanship of this trio, and it's what live music is all about. I know loads of people who wouldn't give the time of day for Rockabilly generally, but they love the Stray Cats, and that's all you need to know!

@kausmo tumynski OH GOD !!! THANK YOU .. I can NOT keep correcting the assholes. If they bothered to look up the artist (on ANY field) and see their history ,we would NOT have read such drivell as "UNDERRATED" There is no sand Kausmo , they live in utter IDIOCY!😁

It still confuses me on why music from the past is ten times much better than the shit we have today.

@@waynesteffen3262 I sort of like to call the crap from now is crap cause it was mostly all put together with a computer and the so called artist are just pretending to play. I'd say a good portion of us don't fall for fakes.

@@pugmalley I hear ya! When I was a kid and a band came on a TV variety show--that's how old I am--members were usually lip-syncing and lip-playing to the recording of their hit. I was so bummed when someone pointed this out--that's how naive I was--noting the lack of cords coming off the guitars in an age before wireless. To be fair, it was mostly for time (TV was timed to the second) and because TV studios did not have the sound quality of recording studios. There's a couple of clips on RU-vid, I think of The Box Tops doing The Letter and Lovin' Spoonful doing Summer in the City, where the keyboard player lifts his hands and magically his instrument keeps playing.

Simple, it isn't. I like older stuff too but that's because that's the music I was listening to when I was a kid. You'll always like that music more than anything. Music hasn't really changed much. Pop has become bigger than ever, but other than that...

So talented so unique no one can copy the Stray Cats or their explosive energy on stage Sezter looks and sings like Eddie Cochran's love child and plays the guitar with just as much skill as the late and great EC.
