@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 I think the girls in the video look too modern. They should have made them up 50s style to go along with their rockabilly sound.
"Ballad Rock" ? Not sure where you were, but 1983 wasn't the "ballad Rock" point , '83 was more Classic Metal & 80's Pop . The Stray Cats were "Rock" ...which is why they were popular ... fucking Rap was still relatively minor in terms of record sales. Bands were a bit more refined & professionally groomed athe time , which is why the early 80's was somewhat diverse . "Ballad Rock" kicked into gear by '87 .... but by '92 it was all over , thanks to Cobain's & Vedder's pathetic display of an overgrown 2 yr old .
I am in the video and it was a blast to do ! It was shot in New Orleans, I was in college and I stayed up all night with a friends mother who taught me how to dance rock-a-billy to get thru the huge audition crowd. Sat next to Brian in classroom scenes and kept cracking him up writing obscene jokes on the school desk. I also spinned a globe and swallowed a gold fish but that got cut...ugh. Great time though!
Shit, sick! How was Brian in person? Hell, I'd kill to meet the cats in person, unfortunately I'm 14 so I'd never be able to lmao. Maybe if they ever do some shit and need a young dude who can score a greaser look.
The Stray Cats revived rockabilly in the 80s with lots of raw punkish energy. Lee Rocker tore up the doghouse bass, Brian Setzer was a one-man music machine on vocals and a classic hollow body Gretsch, while Slim Jim Phantom hammered a stripped-down drum kit-while standing up, no less. They blew away the NYC hipsters at CBGBs, moved to London to launch their recording career, and along with other bands like the Ramones and the Violent Femmes re-energized rock as a music form.
I will be forever grateful to my ex-wife, whom I met after getting discharged from the U.S. Air Force after a tour in Vietnam and coming home with a heroin habit that she helped me kick. She was in fact seventeen when we met and a living doll. I married her and we have a beautiful daughter together. This song reminds me of that time. I know this song was released in the early eighties, but it just seems relevent to me.
Now THIS is how early rock and roll should be re-introduced to current (or for the 1980's, then-current) mainstream audiences. They presented rockabilly as an energetic, youthful, form of vintage music. And they were able to make it in the mainstream. (I love the rockabilly scene, but it is an insular scene, with talented artists who the mainstream are often unaware of.) The didn't present their music as "oldies," the way certain bands from a decade earlier during the "Fifties Nostalgia Fad" did. And of course, they did original songs. Love the Stray Cats.
I love that Amelia Kincade’s dancing in this video led to her getting the part of Angela in ‘Night of The Demons’. She’s truly a great dancer and gifted actress. As for the Stray Cats, they sound just as good today as they always did. I was actually 17 the first time I heard this song, so it always brings back great memories of that time in my life, my friends and all the fun times we had. Thanks so much for sharing this great video and to the Stray Cats for all the music that still gets me dancing when I hear it! 🌹
A couple of years ago, my teenage nephew's girlfriend turned 17. I sent this video to him and told him to play it for his girlfriend when they were alone. Neither of them had ever heard it. From that day on, I am his "Cool, rock and roll" Aunt!
I always wondered how Brian crafted his unique style ... I believe it was a combination of being reincarnated from the 50's plus a dash of pure god given amazing talent!
I was born 10 years (1990) too late to really listen to all this music. Thank god I had a mom who couldn't let go of the 80's and blasted this kind of music through the house 24/7. The garbage on the radio now will never be as good as this
Interesting enough, if you listen carefully, you might discover that the Stray Cat Strut originally came out decades before the Stray Cats changed the lyrics. It was originally a children’s tune called “The Cat Came Back”.
Not only did the girl in the vid go on to play 'Angela' in Night of the Demons, she is a well known animal psychic who tours the world lecturing, holding workshops, and has written books on the subject.
Loved it then. Love it now. Kids these days should appreciate that not only is their music appealing to them, there's good music from every generation stretching back to time immemorial. It's sad how good songs get forgotten - at least with the advent of modern technology there's less concern about that thanks to MTV and the Internet!
The 80s were a time in my life where it's was any way you wanted it , musically that is....you had rock , southern rock, punk , heavy metal and rap RB....and Brian Seltzer doing his own thing , and it was just right ..... amazing
Scientists now agree that too-early school start times lead to poor grades, higher drop-out rates, and other social ills (including underage promiscuity). #StrayCatsWereRight
Teenagers actually need a lot of sleep because they are growing and learning sometimes it is a long commute to school too and teens are not going to go to bed at 9 pm like an 8 year old.
The school where I teach, Har-Ber High in Arkansas, has the latest start time in the state (8:45) for this very reason. Some students can choose to take a zero-hour (8:00) class or athletic practice earlier. And our school consistently wins nearly every competition they enter in every area. May be on to something…
I met Brian at a local bar not long after this came out. He was really cool and hung out. I bought him a shot and we clinked to the success of Sexy & 17. He was a gent. Said hi to everyone and he did not drive home. He had a guy. He was smart.
Hot Fucking damn!! I am single again at 52 years old!! yeeee haaa!!! and remembering getting down when I was turning 18 years old!!! i am listening now and it is totally fitting!!! Love you!!! I found you again!!!Thank you so much for all the crazy memories!!!
I love the gift that these men have with instruments 🎸. Gifted and talented. Damn amazing. I would love to keep them in my heart bc this band was a great so many decades ago. I know they are much older. Just gave me hope. The world was better for me then. ❤.
I had this song sung to me when I was a junior in high school by the school's basketball team. I must say it was by far the most fantastic birthday gift I could have ever gotten. I'll say one thing after all these years; this song is as great now as it was back then.
Can't wait to go see Brian in ATL in a couple of weeks. OMG. Love him. He inspired the character of Dagger in my novel series! woohoo! He is the last of my muses I need to see live
Tantos años han pasado y esta música se mantiene 🎸, qué increíble mayo 29 del 2020 y parece que ese riff de guitarra fuera como hoy, grandes the stray cats 🐱!!!
I'm only 12 but I hate the music we have today in 2015. I'm a huge fan of brian server and his orchestra also rockabilly. I also love led zeppelin, the Beatles, Van halen, ACDC, kiss, queen, the stray cats, Stevie Ray Vaughn, mostly just 60s to 80s music.

i remember loving this song and I was 17 at the time...God, I am old !! hahaha BUT, I liked feeling like I was no longer "sweet sixteen" but not yet EIGHTEEN which is when you are considered an ADULT in some cases...oh, but I could not legally drink alcohol yet at 18. Unbelievable !! : )
@@joelhassig6099 Also, Joe - your last name is very close to the original spelling of my family name - Hessig. My grandfather changed the spelling because of a family dispute. They had originally come here from Alsace-Lorraine, a German area of France.
