5-Star album is available in Spatial Audio / Dolby Atmos! The reaction wasn't in dolby :( I'm listening to the album again this morning in Dolby and it sounds even better. I recommend the Dolby version if available on your streaming service.
Bang Chan, the leader and one of the producers, has also recommended to Stay that we should listen to the albums a specific way. He'll tell us to listen in Dolby or change the settings on our devices. He wants us to experience the music the way it's intended. :)
Hi really love these reactions . Now that u have listened to most of the songs pls could u react to the music video and lyrics. Also I would love for u to listen to their RockStar album. Thank u for ur awesome reactions and honest opinions 😊
I love how they incorporate so much yearning and feeling in this song about how sad the wildfire situation is and yet make it really uplifting - I don't know any Korean but just basing on how the song is sung. I always think of Australia when I hear this song!
I really hope Chan gets to see these videos, I’m going to share them every way possible. Your appreciation for their music makes my Stay heart so happy.
I'm laughing so hard at the "how many more ideas" because Han has said they have hundreds of unreleased songs basically ready to record that will likely never see the light of day. Our boys are *prolific*
do you feel like you wanna watch their video from studio? they have couple of making off videos where they’re showing their working process and recording their music.
22:10 Super "Bowl" is a word play, they use both concepts of the football and food (bowl) related things and use them as a metaphor for making music. They use food related things alot like metaphors in other songs such as God's Menu, and food word play in songs like Jjam and Cheese.
Thing to know about album structure that is common in Korea but also to skz is that "intro" tracks being the first song are common to kinda set the mood. And the last tracks are almost appendix like, where releases from elsewhere are placed. So here The Sound was the title track from their Japanese albun that came out a few months before 5 star and Mixtape: Time Out was a digital single as a fandom Gift. Ate had a remix song at the end, and Rockstar (when you get to that album) has a similar thing with Social Path( Japanese release) and a rock version of the title track. With No Easy, Wolfgang was part of a TV show they were on called Kingdom and Mixtape: OH had been released as a single. So here you could say Youtiful is the end of the album proper with the last two tracks as bonus additions of previously released songs.
React to ROCK-STAR next!!! Also, FNF stands for fauna and flora, it's a song referred to the tragic bushfires in australia, since two members of the group grew up there. That also explains the bird sounds :).
Stray kids have a tenancy of adding weird and random things to their songs and where they come from is even weirder. In 'FREEZE' the guy yelling freeze at the chorus is from the movie 'The Incredibles' and the SMASH in the song 'MEGAVERSE" which you haven't done yet but that sound saying smash is actually a distorted hulk saying HULK SMASH and there are so much more but them making their own music just gives them so much more fun and freedom with their music and sound.
OMG I didn't know this, is there more examples that you know of where they sampled these sounds form. Please do tell. I absolutely love all the random noise and sounds they put in it. It's so fun and satisfying and I just blurt em out while singing lol.
I haven't really enjoyed watching a reaction channel like this for a long time. You always do the music and musicians justice by giving it and them a fair shake. It's so refreshing to see someone sincerely being surprised and impressed by Stray Kids without having to exaggerate. And not to mention actually giving interesting thoughts on the music (and pointing out all the little details) that I don't feel the need to skip through! You're truly doing it like no one else in the best way. Your vibe is immaculate.
The Sound is one of my favorites but you need to hear the Japanese Version. SOOOO much better. The lyrics are better (the words "The Sound" are actually in the chorus in the JV... not sure why they changes that part for the Korean Version) and I feel like the "dinosaur stomp" (as you refer to it) is even better/harder. Difficult to explain. You just have to hear it for yourself. Time Out is full on Summer Disney Channel vibes... not my favorite but it gives my girls nostalgia from when they were elementary age.
i love how you can talk abt songs that aren’t your style in a way that doesn’t offend in anyway.. even though i know it’s silly to feel offended by stuff like that bc everyone has a right to whatever music they vibe with, some people do it in a way that feels like it’s dismissive of the effort the boys put into the song.. i’m super super appreciative of all your reactions!! ty for reacting to skz! (also, i’ve never commented so much in a creator’s videos before… lol)
Thank you for commenting so much on this video 😂 I appreciate what you said about songs that don't vibe -- It's ok to not like/love something and the Stays in these comments have been incredibly supportive of that.
@@tonystocco Whelp.. many STAY have 'learn' that you do not have to 'circle the wagons' when someone doesn't quite have the same opinion as you do for your favorite song. What not okay is to show Dis-r-e-s-p-e-c-t to our artist or his music - that's the fastest way to bring out STAY's Mr. Hyde.. & we Don't want that. nope.. naurr.. yea nah.. 🖖🏽
Welcome Stay-amigo, I was a long time lurker on YT but I found need to be relive the 'first time' hearing time with baby Stay kind of addicting. Then sharing a little thank you for reacting and did you hear this... until it reach to the point where I can hardly keep my fingers from typing things that pop out of my head..[sadly, its a fatal disease in Stayville], but am taking my grass shots and am doing better. Hope to see you around Stayville and remember to go to the back door to come in.. 🖖🏽
I actually figured you wouldn’t care for Youtiful much - but that’s okay. It was written for a different audience who needs those words of affirmation. 🤣 in short, it’s a ballad style fan song. People do tend to think it’ll be country inspired… but it’s just an acoustic pop ballad, originally intended to be a solo release, but rearranged for all 8 members. I thought you’d enjoy the Sound, but I prefer it in its Japanese original form - which is on an album of the same name that was released between Maxident and 5-star. While 5-star isn’t my personal favorite stray kids album, it has a special place in my heart as it was my first comeback considering myself a stay. But I tend to consider the Cle series and Japanese releases to be my favorites.
I also prefer the original Japanese version of The Sound, it also has some English lyrics, including the chorus, which the Korean version doesn’t have at all. I feel like the sounds just flow a bit better, which makes sense as it was written for those languages to begin with. The Japanese title tracks are all so good!
S-Class won a moonman at the 2023 VMAs. As you've been doing these, I've been going back and watching the mashups and trailers to pick out the sounds I'm hearing. They won't use the complete music lines in the videos, bc it's just like a teaser for you. I am amazed at all the ones I can pick out.
in stray kids's there is a pattern 1 unique badass song to open the album 1 title song of the album (ussualy the noisy one and many beat and good song for dancing always in 2nd track of the album) 1-2 diss song for hater like domino and cheese in noeasy 1-2 bragging song like charmer and topline 1-3 soft love song for fans, in this song tells tribute of fans love to them and make fans included in the album and this always like safe place (healing) after intense song in the beginning u can notice how geniuse the position of the track in the album 1-3 unique experimental song with funny tune (fyi this is song who failed got title track position) 1 recycle song so don't be supprised of the contrast of the song in 1 album
Not an elephant, but a one-eyed, flying space octopus. You're going to love the videos when you get around to watching them! They often use food references for the creative process of making music. Both take talent, time, creativity, are tasty, etc. God's Menu is literally this concept with the kitchen, the construction site, the scientific lab, and the race track in the music video.
I think it would be so cool to see a list after you finish listening to their whole discography to show like a top 10 or top 5 of your favorite songs because I’m very curious!! Also I don’t know if you have a specific order that you are listening in but I think that their SKZ-Replay should be one of the last things to listen to. It has a lot of solo songs and you really get to see the type of music that each member likes to sing/produce! It’s also reaaallly long lol. Love your videos!!!!!
7:09 oh yeah stray kids play too much in their production lmao. Sometimes it's more like a remix than a song P.S: This album is the 3rd most sold kpop album in history (5.2m copies), and 3rd most sold album globally of 2023, both after the 2 albums of the kpop group SEVENTEEN holding 1st & 2nd spots. But still 5-STAR was picked as the top kpop album that year in the Billboard Music Awards.
I know you like these audio only vids and dont delve into content sides of things much BUT something that might give you a bit more insight into their processes and the actual music-making would be their "Album Introduction" videos and "Recording Behind" videos! Theyre great
YES ! those are some of my favorite content from skz and makes you just appreciate the music so much more when you see some the work they put on the albums
@tonystocco that means I really enjoy them aahhaha) and also I just realized I made a comment about 5star album on the 5atar album video I wanted to say rockstar lol😭
@@tonystocco Just wanted to make a correction on this comment, the album with the solo and unit songs is called SKZ Replay (not record). And we are assuming they will release another album before 2024 ends with new solo/unit songs that they've released since SKZ Replay, basically a 2.0 of that album, as they are released only on yt (and some are unreleased, only performed in concerts the past year). Also, there A LOT of songs in the SKZ Replay album because its solo/unit songs that had not been released on spotify since their debut, so may need to do it 2 parts
"is it gonna end gritty?" Me, thinking of time out "...nah😂😂" I love when you talk about what you expect and then its the oppositite lol Youtiful is for the fans❤ And fnf means fauna and flora, chan wrote it when the fires in australia happend🥺💔its also him feeling homesick
I didn't end up the reaction yet but I cracked when you said "Michelin? The 5 star restaurant?" Cuz yeah but no, is just a 3 star restaurant (that's the higher score) but you thought it was 5 cuz the album is 5 stars and yeah... they thought it was a 5 stars restaurant too... until they discovered it was not hahahahaha
They don’t sing abt food they sing abt them making songs as if they r cooking a dish they did it before in “Gods menu” which is a song that is based on your taste you will absolutely love it
Stray Kids have described 5-Star as an album that showcases the best of the best of what they have to offer, their "5-Star" effort coming through on every track. It's an absolute smorgasbord of sound. I'm excited for every album reaction to come from your channel, but I was especially psyched for this one. I had a lot of fun with you getting lost in the sauce 😂 with all the different changes. This one will take a few relistens, and even then you can find something new. Thanks so much for having fun with Stray Kids and Stay!
SKZ does use a lot of food play references! I just realized how random Michelin must sound if you haven’t listened to some of their other songs, like Gods Menu 😂😂
You might be interested in the Stray Kids “Intro” series on their official channel. You can watch the creative/recording process for the albums! I love watching them in studio, it’s fascinating since they direct all of the songs themselves.
I’d got with Rockstar next cause then you’ll have heard everything from Noeasy to now… Then do Go Live and In Life (please note In Life in a repackage of Go Live so there are a few of the same songs on both. Go Live came first and then you can just skip the dupes of In Life.) Then everything before Go Live is when they were really trying to find their way so it’s a whole different experience.
Lmao I just saw the community post about which album was coming next and I just said 5-star and then this was posted a second later I would suggest their album Rock Star next!
FNF means floral and fauna, it was done by Bangchan and Felix in honor of the plants/flowers and animals that lost their lives during the devastating fires in their home country of Australia a few years back.
After binge watch ur reaction.. i just realized that StrayKids musics r so rich... thank you for noticing all of them sounds.. now react CHRISTMAST EVEL.. the bass line sounds really great.
Hello again! I don't know if someone already told you but you can find the "behind the scenes" and the recording process of the albums in Stray Kids' official RU-vid channel 😅😅 you can see how they produce and prepare for each comeback (album release)
I usually don't comment on yt videos but this time I need to. I found you on tiktok and I love that you focus on melody, because that's the most interesting aspect about stray kids and even music in general. I came here because of my fav k-pop band and I know I'll stay here as your fan!! Can't wait for new react videos and I also would love to watch some sort of essays about your favorite albums in general! Sending lots of love 🩷💚
I smiled the whole way through again until Youtiful, when i cracked up laughing. You make it so enjoyable "is this another country song?" 😂 Oh and yes audio hallucination is a thing!
we HAVE to get an "i dont know what that is" counter going in the corner of each video lmao edit 1 + 2 - 1) i knew youd dig item. they DO say pacman! 2) that sound in topline that you were trying to figure out i hear it as an ice cream truck edit 3 - you can call it mixtape oh! it says in hangul like an aye sound, which is throughout the song edit 4 - sum 51 made me laugh so suddenly i snorted thank you tony. also i will advertise you watching the time out music video just because its so cute and silly :) theyre just goofing and having fun
Fun fact, Stray Kids performed S-Class at both the VMAs and Billboard Music Awards in 2023. We admire and appreciate them so much for not going English and instead presenting a fully Korean song on such big stages in America.
19:03 their are talking about the different flavours of the music that their serve, but like you supossed, in the japanese version MV of Super Bowl they make references to Hells Kitchen and The American SB (in the video style)
I'm almost done and I say again that I love your sincerity, and above all, I respect you. There are many people who react and when they don't like it, they act disrespectfully and that makes us so sad, so thank you.
Might as well go ahead hit *Rock Star* so you're current. 😄🔥 And then I would looooove to see you check out *In Life*. There's a lot to experience that album. And I'm still on board for Ateez, when youre ready. 😁
Fnf stands for fauna and flora and it is a song for the bushfires in Australian forests (home country to two of the boys) and in honor of all the animals and plants that were lost in the fires.
okay, hear me out: you need to react to their album intros, its mostly 3racha talking about each song's making process and the other members opinions about the tracks and stuff. if im not mistaken, theres intros only for 5-star, rock-star and ate, but still, its really interesting to watch, i think you would like it
theres also some kind of songcamp kinda series that they did wich is where red lights, gone away and surfin were made (the ones you reacted to on the noeasy album)
I may do that in the future... but only after I've listened to the album first. I like to listen first and come to my own (wrong) conclusions and then I'd watch the album intro to see if I got anything right. Spoiler Alert: I won't. But I'm warming up to the idea. The album intros would be more interesting to me than the actual music videos.
simply put, they have a LOT of videos that shows this whole off camera creative process that you can watch later once youre done with the albums and whatever else you feel like doing, but were not trying to pressure you anything, its just some recomendations IF you feel like expanding to other stuff they put out for the fans
@@tonystocco the only album that has an intro and you haven’t reacted yet is rock-star, but really, take your time, the best part is trying to guess stuff and getting everything wrong, so just go with the flow and we’ll enjoy whatever you give us, your reactions are always so interesting
1) we need to start taking shots every time you bring up the bass line 🤣 2) autistic pattern recognition ftw!!!! i had a feeling this album wouldn’t be your favourite, but that the range and insanity of the sounds of each song would rock your mind a bit 😂 the songs on 5-star don’t really have a lot of switch ups, they’re all pretty consistent in sound and structure. the album itself has some fun switch ups; i laughed when you started talking about the darkness and grittiness of the first five, and then cackled at your face when dlc started 🤣🤣 also figured youtiful wouldn’t be your thing 3) i had never considered how close youtiful and waiting for us (oddinary, btw) were to country songs and it’s so funny to me now
Your videos always amke my day a lot better. I love your reactions because it's the reactions I wish I could get from my Friends. They're like "That's a good song", and I'm like "BUT DID YOU LISTEN??"
If you really want to experience everything in a stray kids song, I hate to say it, but you're going to need to add their human element, and i think this is really missing when experiencing 5 star through audio alone. Their work just doesn't end with sound. They use lyrics and visuals in masterful ways to synergistically tie everything together. Of course it's totally fine to not like certain sounds/styles that they explore (given that they dabble in everything, how could everyone like everything?), and you are so amazingly respectful even when you don't like something❤. But. If you ever decide to really get to know stray kids as human beings, learn their extremely difficult history, discover their gorgeous bonds with each other and fans, watch their artistic performance style, etc., I swear you will get more from every song (even the ballads😂). Their humanity (personalities, wordplay, lyrical meaning, choreo, visual effects, etc) really can't be divorced from the sound production. Ty for another great reaction, can't wait for more. I think you'd like a lot of their album In Life (pots and pans). Would literally beg to see you react to a guide and more mvs (many of the 5 star songs have them)❤.
So well said and I couldn’t have agreed with you more. I just came to comment & was about to say the similar … STRAY KIDS songs are really more than just their sound production (which is top tier) but what set them apart & why their songs captured our hearts are the messages behind each song & since they wrote their lyrics you really feel what they were trying to say, not to mention all the clever wordplays they love to do & can tell they have given so much thoughts in them & how their lyrics ( & MV too) really enhance the music!!! They are true musical geniuses!! ❤
1:07:12 "are these even the same people?" it's so true!!! and there's still so much to hear, some of my all-time favorite tracks are yet to come! thanks for taking us along for this journey, every new vid is a highlight of the day!! i recommend the Go Live album next!
The way I was so excited for you to hear Hall of Fame!! If you ever want to see it, it's a song that's excellent when performed live they really dig into the performance! (But that's true of all their songs tbh)
"How many sounds do they have?" Bang Chan, the leader of SKZ, who is creating most of their beats, has said that the lap top he's carrying around contains 4000 beats/songs, several 100's ready to be released. Pure Gold that lap top. 🔥📀💰
i really love that you don’t ever look at the lyrics/translations; just focusing on the music and sounds, because it really sets you apart. it also resonates with me and my first experience listening. it makes your reactions really cool and different
The "superbowl" they were cooking up is their music. They use food/ cooking wordplay to talk about how they make their music and how they can make something that will satisfy all your senses. Superbowl was actually originally titled God's menu, but they ended up giving the title to a different song, which just happens to be their most popular and most pots and pans song 😂
5 Star is definitely overwhelming, in the end I think the softer songs Fnf and Collision ended up being my favorites, and personally I enjoyed their following comeback Rockstar more since it feels more cohesive(?), probably because there's less songs. Those hype songs at the beginning of 5 Star feel more like something that needs to be performed live. By the way I've seen you know about their 2nd full Japanese album coming out in November, The sound is the title track from that album! buuuut the rest of the songs ended up being a lot softer except for the opening Battle ground, so if you plan on listening you should know many of the tracks in that Japanese album are on the style of Collision/Youtiful
"Super bowl" is actually them talking about their music and how good it is. "Hell of a line yeah I know it's hella fine Hell's Kitchen tasting divine You feel it in your system, you want it more Different new flavours Our dish here's so bussin'"
Yeah, Youtiful is a song I sing to my little neices. I am not a fan of these kinds of overly inspirational, borderline cheesy things, but I love the message. And watching them record it made me like it more. Lol
The insight you give to the production of these songs is so interesting. This is my favorite album of theirs and I've never heard some of these background sounds that you point out. Dissecting the songs like this makes me sit and listen to the background with you and I hear so much interesting stuff. I'm glad I found your channel, its just making me enjoy their music even more then I already did. I'm excited for you to move to other artists and see what you can hear in their music as well.
I definitely liked the video and I'm very glad that you reacted to the "5-STAR" album (I thought about commenting on it in the previous video but I forgot at the moment 😭) I think a good recommendation would be to react to the album "ROCK-STAR" Fun fact (SUPER BOWL and THE SOUND have Japanese versions and I think you might like them, Idk 😅)
Oh man, did you have to drop this on a work day?! 😂 Saving for later but am high-key amused that in the first 30 seconds your animated joy is palpable 🤡🎉 This is gonna be a good watch, cannot wait to catch it tonight!
skz are famous for using food/cooking terminology in their songs as a metaphor for their music!! they use it to convey that because their music has so many different flavours, people come back for more (similar to going in for a second bite of food)
You know why I like your reactions? Because you give input which I'll never pick up on my own (and even from most YT reactors), like what an elephant? A train or ship? Lol and it's fun!!! It's listening to it in a new or like different way all over again? And I love that. Because I've heard these songs like a thousand times (for reeeaaal lol) and I thought I already memorized all the rythym, adlibs, and stuff of the songs - but then here you are, you pick up sounds which hahaha we'll never know why Chan puts in there. Guess those are the *special ingredients* hehe
It's amazing what you can hear if your eyes don't get in the way... I'm like you thinking I caught a lot of stuff but no... wow.. I knew I like that guy, he got great taste in grillin up the tracks..🖖🏽
Mr Tony, I just listened to this on my 2 mile walk - after a very stressful day at work. It was such an effing VIBE. From the intro to the track breakdowns?!!! Please! Amazing reaction! I love the 5 Star ⭐️ Album even tho NoEasy is my catalog fave. You did such a good job!
Also (im so sorry for leaving a bajillion comments) you would definitely DEFINITELY love the albums Mixtape, I Am Not, and Miroh. As well as Rockstar. Tons of fun stuff
Also, the 'food' they keep singing about, is because of the pop-culture phrase "cookin'" in regards to, like, owning or being the top/best. In a fight "Lemme cook" would be let me own them and come out on top. They also use "flavours" here, to mean how many genres they can "cook" in; As well as the Michelin call-back to God's Menu. The whole album is about 5-star, or s-class, or cookin, to all mean they are top tier, the best of the best, top of the class, etc. It's a brag about being the best of 4th gen.
Since you liked The Sound, then you should def react to their album called The Sound, it's their Japanese album that came out last year. Or another good album to react to is Rockstar. btw i'm really liking your reactions you even pointed out some stuff I hadn't realized before. Which i'm going back and re-listening to every single song now lol
@@tonystocco no doubt! But spot on about the beach party in Time Out! You should see a live performance next but I’ll be here until you end your SKZ journey!
Woohoo!!!! ❤🎉 This was the first album that I blasted non-stop from top to bottom. There's so much cool usage of the theme and ideas of "leveling up" so 5-Star has everything to do with being the best or at the top. These are only the things I've connected from the album: "Hall of Fame" is self-explanatory and "S-Class" is the highest level class (above even A). With "Item" it is a reference to pac-man and leveling up so you get tons of video game clips and themes. It's just extremely aggressive and even their visual concept was them in Football outfits to show how competitive and in a way, elite class with "Super Bowl." Also, it's a throwback to their song "God's Menu" because they came up with a famous lyric line where Felix says "5 Star Michelin" although in reality the highest class for Michelin is only 3 stars as they "cook up" better stuff. "Topline" was a concept that refers to cars and reaching a "full throttle top line" of RPM when you floor it. "DLC" stands for "Dance like Crazy" and "Get Lit" is all about going all out having a great time, being in the moment, regardless of what tomorrow brings. Both "Collision" and "FNF" are songs that are giving "crash and burn" romantic relationship. "Collision" with intense and quick love colliding and breaking apart, where "FNF" means "Fauna and Flora" referring to every living thing which feels like a poetic call that no matter what existential state they're in (like dust or ash), they'll do what they can to be there. "Youtiful" is a play on "Beautiful". It's honestly just a Stay fan service song using the sweet metaphor of not just "one in a million" but "one in a billion" in the world/universe - a miracle. Every album has at least one song dedicated to Stay (their fans) "The Sound" originally was written and released on the first Japanese debut album although they've written songs before. This version is the Korean recorded one and is all about singing/playing music as loud as they can by "climbing to the clouds in the sky and singing this anthem." I completely forgot!! "Mixtape: Timeout" was actually released as a single August 2022 while "5-Star" was in production. It was inspired by a trip they took together to a sort of getaway, so the beach/hang out theme is exactly right. It also was a 4 year anniversary homage to when they finally came up with the term "Stay" for their fans. They always say "Stray Kids all around the world, you make Stray Kids stay" - a way to appreciate their fans. So much to unpack not just musically but this album basically took up all the rental space in my head. 😂 I'm sure there's so much more other Stays can chime in on or correct me. So so glad you picked up on so much of it! And *please* do Rockstar or Go Live!
