My parents are shitty about me transitioning but they've never been this aggressive about their disapproval, but honestly I just wish they'd rip the fucking band-aid off and say what they feel. It's so annoying to have them misgender me, dead name me, call me a man to my face, but then every time I bring up their flagrant disrespect for me and my transition it's all like "Do YoU kNoW hOw HaRd ThIs Is FoR uS? hAvE sOmE sYmPaThY!!!!". I feel like I could actually get through to them if they just told me what stupid shit is holding them up but instead they just disrespect me to my face and gas-lighting me when I bring it up. I constantly expend so much mental energy trying to figure out what they actually think or how they're gonna treat me on any given day and it's exhausting but I don't feel justified with just cutting them off entirely because they didn't like disown me and I feel like me disowning them makes me the shitty one.
nah ur def not the shitty one, disowning isn't some requirement needed to cut off ur parents. i hear about a lot of other trans ppl who say that after a few years of them being cut off the relationship was a lot easier to maintain when they had experienced what it was like without them. it is certainly not awfully unreasonable to suggest the same to u, they are obviously a negative part of ur life currently and it's pretty reasonable to at least step away for some time. you deserve to be respected and to have ur boundaries respected, and they are clearly not doing that
It’s remarkable how relatable this story was. Specifically the part about living your entire life in a way that would make your father proud but it was never enough for him to respect you as someone who could think for themselves. Like you, I don’t feel super resentful toward my dad, and he always made me feel loved when I was growing up, but I can now recognize that a lot of the values he instilled in me are harmful. So I’m currently working to address a lot of those frameworks that are doing nothing but hurting me and preventing me from enjoying life and being the person I really am. It’s sad that so many fathers of their generation seem to be doing lasting harm to their kids (especially those of us who are trans). Hopefully future generations can improve on this.

no matter what he says u are not your dads pawn, you are the queen of your own life i know it took alot of courage to stand up to your dad like that but u shouldnt feel ashamed or grimy for it keep living for yourself and not for them
You've proved to the world that whether it's Melee or simply being who you truly are, you have got the support of your peers and your fans with how you worked so hard to be at this point in your life. I appreciate and admire that with what you had to go through, you pulled through because it's who were meant to be, that being female, and as ironic as it does sound it did take a lot of balls but for you it has and will pay off with how you'll live your life. Keep on kicking ass lass, you deserve the praise.

this is such a sad story, weighing the decision of openly living as you are against losing your family is not something anyone should have to go through. I really appreciate your openness about your story, and you showing its okay to get emotional about this kinda thing... It's tough. I can relate somewhat honestly, as I came out as trans ~3 years ago to my parents and then just kind of ran it back after I got a p negative reaction, and haven't brought it up at all since 2 years ago. I'm thinking of coming out again soon, but it's definitely scary. That's a great lesson to everyone, your real family isn't always genetic. You made one last try to make him listen and empathize, but he couldn't even give you that. Idk how else to say this, but that only proves how shallow and conditional his "love" was to you. True love is accepting and loving someone for who they are no matter what. All that scripture hasn't taught him what it means.
hey i really fucking appreciate you. i'm going through my own gender shit and my family situation is totally different from yours but to have someone in a community that i care about be so candid about gender stuff feels so important. you're actually so strong
Helly Magi, sorry for this long comment, no need to read it, you already know the tldr. I feel so sorry for you, I really hoped for you that your family would see you're serious about your gender transition with you moving out. Let me say this: crying is not weakness, it's strength. In 2015 my family broke apart and I, "being in control of myself", didn't cry over it for about a year. I lived in denial for so long holding a mental gun to my head, ready to pull the trigger if things got even worse. In short it hit me so hard because I've prepared myself to take over my dad's business for all my life and couldn't have taken the hit of them cutting it in half in divorse. With my dad being 74 right now (I'm 25), we have bonked heads hard over much smaller things. As someone trying to understand everyone's situation and tries to see it from their perspective it's increadibly frustrating to have someone with such a thick skull and smal horizon in the family. I never get mad at anyone except for my dad - it's so weird to yell at each other. Big compliment to you for keeping it so calm and putting this story together so well live and uncut. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for you to keep up this curtain for 19 years straight. However, I'm a bit surprized that you preemptively blocked your entire family, but I don't know your situation. I cryed with you, keep being strong, you're awsome. I'm really glad I got a vision of this being released today, since RU-vid doesn't do a good job of informing me about it.
