Streamer Fishing for Brown Trout! (ULTRA CLEAR WATER) || North Georgia Trout Pt. 3

NORTH GEORGIA PART 3 - Georgia isn't really known for its trout fishing. However the Appalachian mountain range reaches as far south as Georgia and has some of the most beautiful water I've ever fished. North Georgia is the farthest south that trout can survive in the Southeast of America. These mountains are full of brown trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout (the only trout native to the area).
In this video we found some gorgeous wild brown trout! We streamer fished some ultra clear water which is something we don't normally do. The fish cooperated and we caught some awesome fish, something I wasn't expecting after our first time fishing the river. Hopefully you enjoy the video and enjoy the beauty that the Southern Appalachian Mountains have to offer!
I hope you guys enjoyed! Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe!

GA has a wonderful wild trout system. Albeit a small one compared to most trout producing states. As you stated its known mostly for stocker fishing. Or locally as stock truck chasing. Unfortunately, that's the way our state promotes it and regulates it. That's why there are so many privatized streams. It's the only way to properly regulate. I wish we could get more push back from anglers to our DNR to change the regs and add more CnR streams, lower daily limits, put size limits in. They just refuse to. The best wild/native streams require 2 mile plus hikes. Thank you for not naming this stream. That's a huge issue among us here. We've seen wild streams decimated by those pulling out 8 plus daily. Imaging a group like yourself camping 2-3 days keeping 8 each per day. Then factor in the poaching. It's sad.

Chance Lays, I am 73 and have done most of my 50 years of trout fishing in north Georgia and it is beautiful country, but you know that old saying that “the grass is always greener on the other side of the hill”, I have always wanted to fish your neck of the woods. A real pleasure to watch. Amazing to me that streams that far south stay cool enough in summer to support wild browns. Spring fed from ground water?
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing 3 года назад
Actually a lot of these creeks are pretty high elevation, or at least drain from mountains that are. Also if you've ever been to the southern Appalachians the creeks look like jungles with tons of twisted mountain laurel and rhododendron on them. Honestly I don't think the sun ever hits some of those creeks which helps keep them cool in the hot Georgia summers. I'm not sure if these creeks are spring fed or not honestly.

You killed it! Glad you got on em! Beautiful water and video!! You showed the streamer, what’s ur leader set up? Rod weight? I may play with the streamers this year.. thanks
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing 3 года назад
I went simple on this trip. I just went with around 6 feet of 0x fluorocarbon tippet from the fly line to the fly. The rod I was using was actually an 8 wt which was overkill for most of the fish I caught, but if I had hooked a really big one I would've needed it. My brother was using a 5 wt and it was more appropriate for the fish in the area honestly. Thanks for watching!

Honest question, it seems to me that it would be much easier to fish a fluke or hard jerbait, and I think the action etc on a fluke is better than a streamer, what are the advantages to a streamer here?
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing 3 года назад
I don't necessarily use a streamer because it is the best option, I do it because I enjoy the challenge. I personally like the idea of doing something that most people can't. I mean why not just use live bait? That is the absolute best option, we could catch every fish in the river lol my point being that a fluke is of course going to be easier but I've already caught big fish on a spinning rod and have nothing to prove to myself. So I choose to make it harder. Hope this answers your question!! Thanks for watching
@tony52398
@tony52398 3 года назад
@@hardmanfishing Man I really appreciate your answer. I understand the idea of a challenge. I started jiu jitsu at 42 for that reason. I think the difference is I only get to hit the streams a handful of days a year and haven’t gotten tired of catching fish in less challenging ways. If I could fish as much as you do I could understand wanting more of a challenge.
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing 3 года назад
Yessir! And I understand that 100%. If I could only fish a handful of days a year I probably wouldn’t fly fish period. Especially if I hadn’t already learned how to do it.

I'm just throwing this out there... I'm guessing you travel to different destinations.. Do you get a hotel? Do you camp near the areas? What is your average stay time? And.. Yes.. This is very nosey.. What's the average cost of your stays? My reason... I have a 8x20 cabin (basic) sink.. Shower.. Stove. Electric...out house.. on a well known WV creek/river for its musky fishing..off the ohio river. Im trying to calculate a fair price for what it is and possibly airbnb it to anglers.. And yes.. Profit from it a bit,the airbnb RU-vid gurus say see what the competition pays.. But i can't find any...😕.Boat Ramp is Few miles down the rd.. Putting in dock this summer... Your input is appreciated
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing 3 года назад
I usually camp to save money, and camping is free or nearly free in most places. I personally am not very rich so if I'm staying in a hotel or something similar I wouldn't pay more than $100 a night and even that is too much. If I were you I'd look at popular locations for anglers such as the white river in Arkansas or out west somewhere and then compare that to your local hotels/air bnb's. Some areas are naturally more expensive than others so they demand higher prices.

When the Mormons arrived in Utah the only native trout were Bonneville cutthroat. Over the years rainbows, browns and brook trout were introduced and gradually displaced the native Bonnevilles. Last year the Utah DNR decided to kill all non native fish on Cedar mountain and plant only cutthroats. Sad to see all the beautiful browns and brookies in our private lake floating belly up dead. Trying to figure out why would you kill the hardy survivors and replant the weak non survivors?

I’ve spent enough trying the private water North GA has around every bend. They’re full of huge trout, pellet fed swarms of silver rainbows with minimal spots. The pics on social media & online will lure you into wanting to try Private Water in N GA. Take it from someone who’s made the mistake multiple times wasting $$ on N GA Private Water, Just Don’t. You’ll be disappointed, it’s not the action you think it is.
