Street Fighter 1 (1987) - Complete Gameplay 

Street Fighter 2 is probably the greatest improvement in game series from the original of all time.

For those speaking on the "huge increase in quality" for SF2, you gotta realize SF1 came out in 1987 and SF2 came out in 1991. This is a solid game for 1987. At the time, people were playing games like Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, and RBI Baseball. Contra hadn't even come out yet for consoles. Hell, a lot of kids were still playing Atari at the time because the NES didn't really make it into most homes until 88-89. By 1991, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and NEO GEO were already out and the tech had vastly improved.

After becoming king of the hill Ryu eventually made his way to USA and got a job with Strickland propane Co.

Remember playing this in the arcade as a kid, then going to get pizza. Good times.

Street Fighter II was 4 years after this. This game was top notch for 1987.

man, i remember being like 9, 10 years old pumping quarters into this game at the candy store/ice cream shop on Myrtle Ave about 4 blocks away from my house....my mother kept asking me why i was asking for 5 bucks every day lol.... the only enemy i truly remembered, besides Sagat, was MIKE...i loved the background with Mount Rushmore, and his taped up hands, and how he looked just like a regular dude.....and how he whooped my ass a lot whenever i played... seeing the other enemies jogged my memory a bit, but Mike was really the only one i fully remembered.... im shocked at how many people either didn't know this game, or just didnt play it

I will never forget the day I was walking around, far from home on a spring weekend. I saw my classmate "Chin" playing this game in a pizza shop. He was a wizard at the game and completed the game effortlessly. Chin had a technique where he could execute "Haduken", "Dragon Punch" & "spinning air kick" with ease and at will.

I think this is why most people don't remember there was a Street fighter before Street fighter 2.

...it was 1987, the game is an instant classic...GIVE IT ITS PROPS!!!

It's a good thing Capcom green lit a sequel with more larger than life characters (as well as with a catchier soundtrack). But it is cool to see where the legend began.

Man, unlike SF2, this game has NOT aged well.

Food for thought, alot of you are shitting on the game your parents and grandparents played, but within the next 30 years gaming will improve expedientially and the kids of that generation will talk shit about Street Fighter 6. Give props to the OG, an entire genre began with this game.

What yall dont understand is the standard for fighting games was not even established at this time. Mfs were playing games like Karate Champ on NES were the characters didn't even turn around automatically when crossing someone up. Most "fighting games" were just arcade beat em ups. When you take into consideration this was the beginning of the fighting game standard it makes you appreciate it a little more

Abslolute gem, we can see in SF1 you could play Mike Tyson and he was change to Baalrog. Game looks absolute great for 1987! we could see that games on pc after 1992 so we have to wait 5 years.

Even though Ryu had suffered a series of traumatic brain injuries, he spent his days traveling the globe attacking people whose entire existence was a cultural stereotype.

At least it was realistic -- Punching Sagat in the balls twice to win was very much a true "street" fighter move.

There are actually multiple opponents in the game you only have to one hit on then can safely block until the time runs out as long as you have more health then them. As in they don't have any low attacks, grapples or chip damage moves thus the standing block completely shuts them down. Birdie and Adon among others.

In the 80's this game was top tier. I remember playing Renegade, Karate Champ and another game where all the fighters had big swollen heads Fighting in a pit where the spectators would throw you back in the circle.

I just remember putting a coin in the arcade and getting my ass kicked in the very first enemy, never imagined how the techniques could be made, very bittersweet memory, after the second was released I fell in love with Chun li 😁✌️

From playing it a the local Chinese food spot to seeing it played between bishop and Steele it’s still an awesome game to me .

From this game, I only recognize a few fighters... Ryu (naturally), Sagat (Naturally), and Mike (or as North Americans know him, Balrog) from SF2 and Adon, Birdie, and Gen from the SF Alpha series. (At least you're not fighting Birdie in a bathroom.)

My brother and I kept waiting for Capcom to bring back the original lineup and put them in the modern games.

How many of these guys came back in a later entry? I don’t play fighting games, but I think it’ll be cool to see how they evolved a character over the years. Only ones I think came back are Mike (Balrog), Sagat and Gen.

Wow street fighter has come a long way. Two of my personal favorites are super street fighter 2 and street fighter third strike.

The playability from this game may be terrible but the graphics are timeless cool,considering who we are talking about a game from 1987.

Nobody remembers the original Street Fighter. Street Fighter 2 is what made it what it is today.

The voices in this just make me laugh. I know it was way ahead of it's time, but the voices the characters make are too hilarious. 🤣

Sagat and ryu are the only people who made it to the next games

Man this is truly ahead of his time, to this day street fighter 1 still the best street fighter, have better animation, better mechanics, better voice acting and better visual like bro everyday I pray to capcom to make an new street fighter with this level of quality

This was the only game of its kind back then. And back then skill was actually a requirement to beat games. Street Fighter wouldn't be what it is without this foundation

this was a damn solid game and really revolutionized the fighting game genre from the basic punch kick format

Ryu looks and sounds the best in this game because he's represent his japanese heritage unlike the later games where ge looks more like a white boy , smhh

Street Fighter Alpha took those characters to a new level
