In this video, Street Fighter 2 - The World Warriors, released in 1993 for the Atari ST by U.S.Gold.
The famous sequel of the franchise, SF2 has become a legend, a coin-op that devoured many coins to give hours of excitement and fun. It would take a mega/giga/tera wall of text to describe everything about this game but, chances are that you already know what it is and how it works, so let's dive into the ST port. After having seen the conversion of the first Street Fighter I think it's hard to do worse, even if your name is U.S.Gold and yes, SF2 is much better that the previous one but it's not that great game that should have been. Maybe the ST started to feel the weight of ages, maybe the programmers should have made an STE version, maybe U.S.Gold wasn't up to the task.
Despite the hardware limitations of the original ST, graphically SF2 is not bad at all, the sprites are big but poorly animated, the background colored and faithful to the original but the scrolling is not smooth. The audio is good, with nice music and digital speech. The jerkyness of the animations, the laggy controls, the one button joystick, the continous disk swapping, and general slowliness make the experience unsatisfactory. At least it's not easy to play as the first Street Fighter.
Here you'll find introduction and gameplay with Ryu and Blanka.
All footage taken from original hardware machines and upscaled to 1080P.
