It still drives me crazy that they didn't port this to the N64 which came out the same year as this.. Smh at Capcom.. And the hardware they used inside the Snes cartridge cost Capcom money instead of going the cheaper route and porting this game to the N64..
It's obviours that a 1:1 version would be impossible - but Capcom programmed a very good port for the great SNES. Sure, it's a little downgraded, as you can see, also the endings aren't complete and the resolution is lower, but the important game content is still there and the port plays close to the original. I even prefer some of the SNES' music, same thing with SF2T and SSF2.
Nintendo really stuck to their guns. While Sega was hurrying out the 32X and the Saturn, Nintendo was like "We can still get AAA games released for our 16-bit console!"
When I look at Nash's ending, it makes me think that SFA3 is not cannon in the SF timeline, because NAsh was supposed to die in the waterfall. And where does Nash awakes in SFV ? In ruins near the waterfall.
Given the circunstances, Capcom did an awesome job with this port. The SFZ 2 was already pushing the CPS-II board towards it's limits (and that board was far too much superior than SNES), of course they wouldn't manage to port the game perfectly to an inferior hardware. And that's not mentioning how the SNES had to use a special chip in the game cartdrige to decompress all the things Capcom crammed into it, or how the bus between the main processor and the console's memory had a "narrower" bandwith than it should (thus the loading before the actual fights and after them). To things be better than they were, the console would have to be better than it was. And that's not an option they had to work with...
It was amazing to see this port in a 16bit system in the 32bit era, even with its limitations I find it a decent port, but far from brilliant, obviously. It still is playable, but slow as fuck.
i finished this game on Snes with all characters back in the day and the only ending that wasn't a complete letdown was Sakura's. They are awful for most of the time. Few illustrations and mostly texts. A 40mb cartridge would do wonders for this game but Nintendo for whatever reason only went beyond 32 for a very selected games.
LOL, you are such a SNES fanboy. This version is so bad even most Ninty fanboys agree it was bad. The SNES could barely run SF2 New Challengers (or MD for that matter) but at least the MD versions had turbo stars for faster play. Even Nintendo Virtual Console has the MD versions of Street Fighter rather than the horrid SNES versions because, well, the MD versions are better for competative play. SNES Alpha 2 is all things considered a worse game than Pac Man on Atari.
@@traumatizedgeworth It also depends on the chips built into the carts. The Sega SVP chip moves way more polygons than the Super FX chip and at a better frame rate. The native Mega Drive CPU can also handle polygons at about 8 fps, the SNES hardware can't even do polygons without on cart chips to my knowledge. But, pretty colours and muted audio definitely goes to SNES.
Neither in N64. By then, everyone already enjoyed the accessible CD version of an accessible PSX console. Very late for Nintendo, Sony was already beginning to take over the market. SNES was already fighting alone in the geriatric consoles.
N Neco - In fact It was not launched for MD for marketing reasons. If Sega had released SFA2 for MD, it would have helped thwart the sale of the Saturn console. As they lost money with Mega CD and 32x, they did not think better idea than discontinuing MD to force players to migrate from platform. But as Sega was already disappointing with its later platforms and Nintendo was censoring games and delaying N64, players bet on a cheap and technically novel third alternative: PSX. And they were not wrong.
The endings in the SNES version are totally pathetic! They don't compare to the Arcade, PS1 or Saturn. However, considering the limitations of 16-bit we could say that the gameplay is quite decent.
Jogabilidade toda bichada e bem diferente do original.
A terrible game. The SNES version is hardly a game at all, it reminds me of the horrid translation of SF2 to Master System, totally unnecessary and unplayable. Had they made an MD version it would have sucked too. The MD for what it is worth got The Punisher, which sucks also.
