Street Fighter Stages In Real Life 

In Japan, the movie Hard Times was called Street Fighter, so the "inspired" stages are no accident.

I was at Bison’s and Sagat’s stage in Thailand..

SF2 was a fine work of art.

Not only are the stages inspired by real places, but many of the characters too. Ryu is based on grandmaster Mas Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin Karate. Ken is inspired by Joe Lewis, the legendary US full-contact Karate and Kickboxing champion. Balrog is based on Boxing world champion Mike Tyson. Sagat is based on Sagat Petchyindee, a legendary Muay Thai champion and trainer from Thailand. DeeJay is based on Billy Blanks, famous US martial artist, stuntman, actor and founder of the Tae Bo fitness system. Fei Long is obviously based on Bruce Lee.

As a kid back in 1992, I used to endlessly play Sagat's theme over and over and daydream about actually going to Thailand and find Sagat's stage so I could train in there and become a Muai Tai master myself.. But now that I finally found out the place actually exists, I'm a little too old and broke to go.. 😞

My god the street fighter 2 soundtrack is beyond legendary

The fact that they based these levels on real life locations. That you can actually visit in person is pretty cool. 😊

One of the attributes of the StreetFighter games that always appealed to me were the fighters' background. I'd like to see Sagat's real-life background from the original StreetFighter (not SF alpha).

Kens stage music makes me drop whatever I’m doing and fight the nearest person every time I hear it since 1992 😂

Legendary game, just the themes of the stages bring back my childhood.

This is bloody awesome... Love the Sagat and Bison stages IRL.

They did the same with the Mortal Kombat locations, they also traveled to the Outworld to take multiple pictures and videos to create stages that tried to replicate the Outworld locales as accurately as possible (even though they had hardware limitations to work with at the time). Note, however, that the tapes of their trip to Outworld have never been publicly released to this day.

Chun-Li and Blanka must have real world versions too! There’s got to be a bridge through the jungle somewhere in Brazil, and I’ve personally seen a Chinese street crowded with bicycles and old men killing ducks.

I never even heard of the movie Hard Times. Going to have to watch it now.

Guile stage-the set of top gun

Love this. Almost everything from SF2 was based off something else. From the music to the characters. I know E Honda's stage was an original artwork by the designer.

Don't know why I was eagerly waiting for vega.. didn't know what to expect actually; maybe a resturant in Spain that locks their guess in a steel cages. I always thought Vega was a disgruntled waiter who put on a mask and a make shif large fork and fought customers who didn't leave a tip.

Street Fighter Alpha 1's colosseum stage is taken from Bruce Lee's fight with Chuck Norris in The Way of the Dragon 👍. Not sure about the rest of the stages, but there's probably more Alpha 1 stages taken from other films. All the best Japanese video games were homages to (mostly) Western films, it seems. Aliens + Arnie was the inspiration for Contra!

Just listening to the music from the different street fighter stages gives me goosebumps I used to always go to the options on my street fighter 2 game and listen to the different music from each character stage the music is so classic from this game and is probably the most underrated part

IIRC Fei Long's stage in SSF2 was also based in a real place that sadly doesn't exist anymore, but there are pics around that show how close it was to the version we got in the game.

I got the opportunity to experience a real life fighting stage straight out of Street Fighter II. For those of you who played the game, the character Guile had a stage that took place on military base were you and another player got to duke it out next to a huge fighter jet as soldiers cheered you on from the sidelines. This stage, to my surprise later in life, effectively portrayed a life like presentation of some of the sparring matches that I took part in while traveling on a US Navy aircraft carrier.
