On our way to Tema we visited a local chop bar to have an authentic Ghanian street food called red red or bean stew. So far out of all the dishes I've tried, this one was the best in how balanced and easy it was to eat. As a Jamaican, I especially enjoyed the large pieces of fried plantains to bring a bit of sweetness, to the rather mellow, buttery starchy taste of the beans. IF YOU KNOW THE NAME OF THE RESTAURANT, please shout it out, Eddie didn't know of one.

It’s cassava flour, cooked black eye beans/peas, spiced palm oil and plantation. The cassava flour is made the same way bammy is made in Jamaica but dry fried in a cast iron skillet. Garri is sometimes served in Brazilian restaurants too. This meal does not normally go with eggs or fish .

It's called Red Red because the fried plantain turns reddish after it fried, the palm oil cooked with the beans, is Red, so the whole meal looks reddish, so we call it Red Red! The GARI is a product of Cassava. I hope u know Cassava as a Carribean person. I dont know how u call it there. The cassavetes is peeled, grated, all the starch is squeezed out, and the remaining white fluffy flaky product is dried and roasted...and it becomes tiny little white grains.

If you eat that with bread you might not be able to move for a while or you'll need to sleep lol. The Gari (Cassava grains) under the black eyed beans is too filling and also with the palm oil, plantain and egg. Man, I am full just watching this. And that sweet loving moment in the line 👀💕💕😁 Aye Aye Aye is a very popular Ghanaian song of Praia Hailing God. It's a powerful chant/prayer/praise thank the almighty saying there is none greater. Its even more beautiful when some tribes dance to it 🤗 You finally had beans and plantain new you would love it. Surprised Eddie didn't get you some sweet bread with it. Maybe next time! Beans a.k.a red red a.k.a "gob3". The song she was singing is a gospel song which translates: "He has been good with us. Gracious God He has been good with us. And the song they were singing at the end is an appellation. "Aye" it doesn't really have meaning but it's like when you don't have the words to describe a feeling. You say "Aye". Usually it is used for royals and Kings. It's a song towards God for all the good he has done but you can't find words to describe. So you just say Aye

Red/red is fried ripe plantain and black eye peas with spiced palm oil. This is mainly a lunch dish. Adding gari is a matter of choice. The gari makes it a heavier meal. Gari is made from grated cassava that is fried dry to remove all moisture till it's very dry and crunchy.

What u call Rice and peas on the islands, but with a darker colour and definitely different flavour, because of the reddish/burgundy leaves used to cook the rice and beans. Same black eye beans too. Bro thanks for show casing Ghana on your platform/ channel. We appreciate your patronage and ability to look beyond cultural differences in order to embrace what is before you. In my personal experience comparison is not always a good thing because it can come across as criticism. Please one little point, there is nothing like African food when you are in Ghana. It is Ghanaian food. There are typical breakfast meals but your guide chose what eat or your list might have made choose 'red red'. Any food can be eaten for breakfast it usually depends on what the person does as a job. People who do physical work tend to eat heavy food regardless of what time of day

You don't grab anything with your fingers. Gari is a separate food on it's own. It can be soaked with water and sugar with milk. It can also be eaten on it's own with any soup.
