@@ALEXdaG Lol. I put 20k miles on that bike then put 20k on my SGS, and now I am on a RGS. Loving these bikes thus far. Not a single problem with any of them aside from the infamous oil sump issue on the FLHR which was fixed on subsequent models. Yes.... Kevin Baxter's channel has impressed me with the need for certain upgrades, however I have had good luck thus far and usually keep them in warranty.
This is funny because this is what I'm going through right now. I have a 19 street glide special and absolutely love it, but here recently, I've really been loving the look of the road king. Then it happened! My buddy from work let me take his 21 road king around the block. My God, the road king is amazing. I've really been thinking hard on this one. Thanks for the content. Very helpful!!!
I absolutely love the HD Road King Classic (I wish they were still sold in the US). The simplicity, the spoked wheels, the white wall tires, and the avalanche of aftermarket parts. Such a joy and beauty to behold. For my retirement, I purchased a brand new 2012 Road King Classic (blue/black) that I configured with my preferences. It had the touring trunk, the HD GPS, the BOOM audio twin speakers, adjustable backrest, etc. Unfortunately, in 2017, the divorce lawyers required a sacrifice and my dream motorcycle was lost on the chopping block. But I digress. I’m 56 years young and have been riding since I was 13. I’ve lost count of the number of motorcycles I’ve had the pleasure to ride and own. Having said that, my 2012 Road King Classic was the best riding experience I’ve had on a motorcycle. I’m retired now and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to own one again, but at the very least I have my fond experiences. No one can ever take those away. If you own one, enjoy the good times and make lots of memories.
Buy used, If you have some patients there are some great deals to be had. You can find a 5 Y/O bike for 1/2 the price of new with 5000 miles on them if you are patient and don't mind making a few low ball cash offers. That's how I bought my last two Harleys.
I’ve got a 2019 road king a true touring bike and I love it. She looks good and is so agile! I could go down the street to the store or across the country or up the mountains and she handles like a dream.
Hey George ! I agree with you at 100 % ! I've just changed my RK Police 103 ( the most confortable HD ) for a RK 107 , model 2017. The différence is unbelievable, of course the Milwaukee eight but also the frame. The weight is forgoten , so agile as you said. The Road King is just THE Motorbike ! Sorry for my english ! Cheers from France and ride safe 🇫🇷
I was trading in a softail slim on a street glide. I loved that street glide with it’s olive gold paint and swore it was going to be mine. That is, until I saw the brand new 2016 road king in crushed ice and frosted teal. That’s it, I was sold. I love my king and it loves me. I’ll never trade that baby in.
I BUY MY FIRST BIKE 2 YEARS AGO 2002 ROAD KING IS OLD BUT I LOVE IT ... I DID A LOT MODIFICATIONS AND LOOKS COMPLETY DIFFERENT BIKE , SOO MANY OPTIONS OUT THERE THAT YOU CAN DO WITH ROAD KINGS
I concur. Had 2015 RK. Traded it for a 17 CVO Street Glide and 22 months later sold it and went back to a Rushmore edition RK. The ride quality, classic look and handling just can’t be beat. The RK has everything you want and everything you don’t.
I have both a Road King Classic and a Road Glide special. I love them both for different reasons. If I could only have one the Glide would go. H-D needs to build the Classic again. That was a great value bike and tours better than the special.
Aren’t they basicly the same bike? Street glide has a fairing, RK has a windshield. The frame is the same bike ? I think the street glide is lowered some which is why it may feel stiffer
I may buy a 2013 street glide I own a 07 road king classic, I don’t think I can part with my road king I know exactly what ur saying LONG LIVE THE KING
I spent the weekend on my fathers 19 RKS and wasn’t impressed. It’s better since he put on the batwing fairing, which helped the buffeting. The ride wasn’t as nice as my brothers 17 SGS.
I've ridden both and I prefer the street glide. There is no reason in my mind to choose the road king over the street glide. If you know how to ride handling is not a factor since I can handle any bike. I rip the mountains with both. I've used both for bar hopping. The street glide has music, storage, and all kinds of wind protection. Never got hit with a rock on a glide lol.
To each his own but there are reasons many may choose the RK over the SG. First, the steering is MUCH lighter with no weight of the fairing. Also, the rear suspension has more travel which soaks up the bumps. The stock suspension on the SG/RG is atrocious (rear mainly). Also, many riders just don't need the radio/nav. I went from no-fairing to a Road Glide a year ago and the only thing I miss is not being able to see the road and headlamp out in front of me. Just makes the ride. As for wind management, a recurve on the windscreen and soft or hard lowers, and the Road King is just fine. All depends on your riding style. Again, to each his own.
Do you ride two up? I'm in this very situation. I absolutely loved my street glide but the road king is just something I can't get out of my head. Any advice?
I had a 17 Road King std for 19 months and put 36,000 miles on it. Loved that bike but thought I needed a fairing. Traded it on a 19 Street Glide std. wasn’t shire if I made the right decision or not for a while. I really like them both. I had lowers and tour pack on the RK that I had painted to match the SG. Heated grips on both because I ride year round in Indiana. The protection from the wind and rain is better on the SG. The RK std rides better with its 13” rear shocks than the SH 12”. I solved that with 13” Legend shocks. There really is no wrong answer.
hi, it's been a while:) Still feeling the same about the RK and the SGlide? they say SG has too much fairing that act as a sail at high speeds , anyway , I guess for winter and windy roads SG is a better choice isn't it?.
@@davidBarrel yes I do think the Road King is the best touring bike HD makes. I recently traded my Street Glide 49,000 miles for a Pan America. I am absolutely loving this Pan America!
Go ahead, put your finger on it..The Road King standard comes with smaller wheel in the front but thicker tires.. I rides better too due to its 13" rear shock, vs 12" on the street glide I believe they lowered the Standard RK seat height (not counting the Special) the new 2017 seat is cut down in the front for better reach
I think the Ultra with the tour pack is a better ride than a street glide. They lower the SG and the suspention is stiff. If you turn a ultra into a street glide you keep the good suspention ...same as a road king. That's prob why you like the RK better it has the full height suspention. Easy to take a ultra and remove the trunk ECT and you got a street glide that actually rides good 👍
@@mindspinn311 It has more metal up front where as the SG has less metal, more abs plastic. The RK also feels more top heavy because it sits alittle higher than the SG.
I was surprised by the fact too when I read the specs. I have a 05 RK custom and sits lower than standard RK. Also have a detachable fairing because I wanted to have a street glide look but every time I remove the fairing, the ride quality improves so much. Just like George Hill mentioned, I have learnt to appreciate my RK more when I had the fairing on. It has pros and cons on both spectrum. Nothing Beats a good clean RK with gleaming chrome.
