I definitely vote for more videos like this as walking tours are always a great way to see an area. Also I enjoyed the photo taking process as the discovery of a cool angle or perspective is always the most satisfying part of taking photos for me. The parking garage probably seemed the most boring to a lot of people but I was constantly excited about the photo opportunities that kept popping up.

Wauw, really enjoyed that! I'm a landscape photographer (the reason why I follow this channel about field recording) but am very intrigued by street photography. @@FreeToUseSounds Oh, that's sad. Yet to reach there 😅 I tried looking for Roland CS-10EM Binaural Microphones in India but it is discontinued. Amazon isn't doing International shipping currently. By any chance is there a way to import it to India? I find it little hard to monitor the sound while I'm recording and shooting my POV Street Photography.

Hi, this is probably my first ever comment on RU-vid. A bit like Libby mentioned in one of your other videos, I watch a ton of RU-vid videos but never comment or engage. However, your channel has inspired me to pay more attention to sounds around me and to explore field recording, which is something I’ve been wanting to do for ten years, but never really started. So I thought I would come and say “hi”, and also share an idea. I think this video is great, a very new approach with a lot of potential. The part I liked the most was the vent near the tracks at around 2:20. What I loved about this is that we first heard the sound coming in, then you turned around and took a photo of the sound source. Some of the other pictures were beautiful, but here you created a direct connection between sound and image. Perhaps that’s something you can explore in one of your next videos, a street photography tour entirely dedicated to capturing the images of sound sources. Just an idea :) Keep up the good work, and I wish you all the best for your channel.

A little late for this but I think this is great and would like to see more. The combo of the GoPro, Fuji, and Binaural is very creative and offers a lot, both for you guys in doing and us in listening. Just a note. I find that using the SNP mount system is nicer than using the chesty. This does bring up and interesting aspect that pertains to a lot of the material that you have posted and that is how you combine all of this into a seamless flow. I could not find that you have done a behind the scenes on this. Sorry if I missed it, but it would be interesting.

Cool video!... Just ordered mine. However, I am wondering will this Roland CS-10EM work with Zoom F6? Do you need additional adapter for it to work?

I tried it with a coupler but it won’t work. I think you need an adapter that converts the phantom power down to 2V. There isn’t a mic 3,5 jack on the F6.

From the Roland website, it says the operating voltage for the earphone is 2-10V. And the VXLR+ converts phantom power down to 3-5V. In theory it should work right?

@@MetawolfTV Now you run into one problem by using one of the VXLR adapters. You would record only into one track which converts the binaural stereo into a mono track. Hmm I know Soundman has an adapter. If you have a solution please let me know because I tried it the other day with a coupler and the 3,5 male to 2 3 pin XLR L+R. The cable I used for the Priezor VS Ether cable. Let me know if you got it to work

Hello. I love tour videos please keep going ;-) I just bought two omnidorectionnal lavalier microphones to try binaural recording. I don't have a binaural head so how would you recommand to place the microphones for the best result. Also i have the zoom f6, what is the best setting? Thanks in advance if you have time to answer. I do have time to answer so you should create something that fits the omnis close to your ear or inside. I have never done anything like that but check out DPA's binaural headset. That gives you an idea. About the setting just have it on 32 bit. You can choose if you want to record 96 or 192 kHz.

Really enjoyed this! Really nice shots, Libby! You have a good eye for composition - the view screen looked pretty boring, but your shots looked fantastic! If you have a chance, Capitol Hill is an interesting and colorful area, if you have a chance to walk around there (Met my wife there 26 years ago). Enjoy the Camino! I hope that you have your trekking poles handy. I hear that they come in handy for the occasional stray dog!

I bought a Roland CS-10EM Binaural Microphone. As you have showed in your last video. It's not good. The right mic is at least 3-5 dB less sensitive that the left one. Not good. And it's way too expensive for what it is. The cables are rubbery - not good. I want slippery cables that are strong and not as flimsy as the Roland ones. I will return it to Amazon tomorrow. I'll get something from micbooster and make my own.

Which ones will you get instead, Dr Nick? From the youtube videos I saw , the CS10EM are not what I expected. The sound is damped and not clear enough (rivers, ocean).

Thanks so much Michael! Its always great to hear from you and that you like what we put together. I just did my first "alone" test vlog and Libby is editing right now. I think the biggest issue is the internet connection. Another RU-vidr did the camino and had trouble uploading one video at a time. I'm shooting at least 30GB a day so it could be a challenge but I do daily IG stories too. :)

Hi Greg! Oh yes everything was recorded with the Roland in ear binaural microphones. Today I try it out and see if that works with the Tascam too.

Wow that's awesome. I am always confused on which microphones need phantom power. Do these or will they work with the H1n. I also have the H6 but have only used it a few times. I have lots to learn! But you have inspired me!

@@gregwilsonnaturephotography Oh yes it works with the H1n and also the XY 3.5 input on the H6 capsule. They provide the correct PP. Now I just tried to figure out if it also works with the X8 but it seems like it doesn't :(

I like this type of video! I enjoyed the perspective to see a little into your thought process of what looks interesting, and noticing when you pulled up the camera then put it down without making a photo. I enjoy a narrated photo walk, too, where you're discussing what you're seeing, what the considerations are, etc., but I also understand how that could conflict with the audio immersion, which is likely more your focus.

Question on recorder for binaural recording, with this mic setup, would the Zoom f1 or the Zoom Digital Multitrack recorder (with float 32) be a good option? The H1n is a great start, but if a person has the option to move into a different recorder, which one would suit this style of recording? Thanks again, very good stuff here.

Hi Cory, I had the F1 and yes you can use this device but its very noisy and I never liked the fact how to do gain staging. You can't use it with the F6 directly. You would need adapters and something to get the phantom power down to 3 to 5 volt. The Zoom H1n is perfect. One day, this is going to be a 32 bit float unit. If the Zoom F3 had a 3.5 mic in jack, that would have been perfect.

@@FreeToUseSounds I also have a Zoom H2n laying around, that seems like the same setup as the H1n as far as inputs go, yes? Line in and Line out so the binaural mic would work the same? Is the preamp in the H2n as good as the H1n?

@@CoryShubert Hi Cory, the only H2n unit I had came broken out of the box. I never used this one but it should work. The H2n is different then the H1n with different capsules and mic positions.

Ohh wow! You make me want to buy one! haha. Just wondering do you always need to put the microphone in your ear to record? or you can just put the pair near each other and place/mount it on your stand/gimbal for example..

Nice. I always like walk alongs. Lets us see somewhere different and hear the sounds. By the way, I see you used to use the Audio Technica MX50's but now use the MX30's. I need to buy some new headphones and definitely going for one of the AT models. I guess you prefer the 30's for field recording ? Why did you change from the 50's which are supposed to be better and also neutral ?

I never had the 50s. I had the Sony MDR 7056. Is that what you mean? Also bought the in ear AT headphones for the Camino. I’m done wearing over ear headphones outdoor. I only use them until I have the other pair. They are waiting for me in Saint Jean.
