A day of Street Photography in New York City with the Nikon D850 and the Nikon D810.
With my fashion photographer friend Laredo, we went out taking pictures in the streets of New York, challenging ourselves using unconventional lenses for street photography.
Laredo shot with his Nikon D850 and a 24mm lens, while I used my Nikon D810 and a 85mm lens….

Either camera, paired with a 35mm 1.8 ED lens is a marvelous choice. I owned a D810 and gave it to my granddaughter when I bought my D850. Now I am shooting a Z9 but still use my D850 for people shots and street. The single biggest advantage with the D850 over the D810 is the tilt screen LCD. For getting low to focus on puddle reflections, the tilting LCD is a huge advantage in my opinion.

Brilliant idea teaming up for a day and moving outside of your respective comfort zones with lenses. Agreed that the greatest benefit in street photography is connecting with people you never would have otherwise. Continued success!

Carmines in times square 200 west 44th street, we booked as its packed but the food is just fantastic. Meat balls are so big just order one plate between two of you and the source has shaved steak in it, boy we need to go back!

I think you got some great shots and I really liked how you used the lines of the architecture in your images. I mainly use my Zorki 4K when I’m in an urban environment, I don’t do street photography because of my mobility scooter, and I don’t even own a digital 85mm prime. The closest I have is my f2.8 macro and I can’t say I’ve ever used that for anything outside of macro shots or in the studio. To me I think you got the short end of the straw and by far the tougher lens to work with, and you both did an incredible job.

Original video! :) The differences between the Nikon D810 and D850 are not that much. The photographer and the lens create a great photo ;) The challenges when shooting with a 85mm lens in street photography, is that you don't have the wide perspective and it's difficult to get a good composition and angle. Laredo totally pulled it off. I loved to see how you guys work in the field. Very amusing and beautiful dialogs (even when you did curse sometimes hahaha) :D Keep up the excellent work Attilio and greetings to Laredo :)

I assume you shot in RAW. What ISO did you use? Also, What WB setting are you using? Daylight , Auto0, Auto1, etc.

Yes all images are shot in raw, iso 64 and auto wb...which doesn’t matter as you can change that later anyway...

if you used a 20mm for the day, which for nikon? I want to get one this season for D750 and D7500. and do walk around the same places you covered often. I have DX 12-24 f/4 and FX 16-35 f/4. with one lens as not far from work and home

that is the choices, I know are AF-S 20 1.8 G and a Sigma 1.4 'art'. Anything else? Those are expensive enough.

I enjoyed the contrast of your intentions to create a common ground in spending your day, together. I thought the points of contention were hilarious, which demonstrates that a good will can go farther than great communication. The video was informative in understanding the subtle dynamics of your friendship, as well as, the differing styles in approaching your art in composition. The technical aspect of 850 vs 810 is a matter of taste, which pros and skilled amateurs could debate with merit... The switching of lenses is like asking a poet to write a novel, or one who has only driven in the USA, to be thrust into London traffic...Personally, my limited experience with the D 810 has been a journey of joy and realization of my limited compositional application and technical understanding.

I really enjoy your content Attilio, I shoot landscape and Street photography - some people seem to be scared of street for some reason - use the lens that you are most comfortable using - personally I use a 24-105mm which gives me the best of both worlds - other times I will use a fast prime.

I own both cameras and a d750. My d850 has the best out of camera skin tones between the 3. It’s incredible. High iso goes to my d750.

All that resolution is overkill. I have a couple of D800s. Great image quality but they are too slow for much action.

@@AttilioRuffo I should clarify.. Your's and my interpretation of 'Street Photography' seems to be on different planes. For instance I would never ask a pretty girl to pose for a shot. I'd prefer her in her natural habitat. To me, the subject caught unaware is the more true shot, not an architectural shot from the amazing perspective I saw both you Pros do. The sleeping homeless guy, the haphazard randomness of an intresting storefront. I didn't see this in this episode. And I watch your work, and will continue to do so.
