Fine Art Street Photography Tips on the Art of taking Street Photos
Street photography is an art, just like the great artists of paint, street photographers use everyday life, the city, their own environment as their canvas.
With practice, patience, and a healthy understanding of the technical aspects of digital or film cameras we can develop ourselves into fine artists and produce great shots that are worth exhibiting, and keeping for future generations to ponder and enjoy.
I hope these Street Photography Tips help you gather new feelings and ideas for your own street work.
The city as it now stands will change dramatically over the next few Years. It's worth doing street photography to build your own individual view of the world about you, and contribute y´something worthwhile to the future.

I love street photography. And I am aware that different photographers have different ideas about the aesthetics of what street photography is; I call it fine art street photography and like to include everything that makes a city what it is, people, transport, bricks and mortar, and that magical vibe that is always present - even if sometimes it seems to be sleeping.

Thanks, I think it's a healthier outlook when we know that all types of photography, and the practise of it, helps us to become better all round photographers. Street photography is one aspect that offers a great challenge to learn a lot about light, lenses, and compositions. Sean

Absolutely, I think most of my best shots are people who are too busy to notice that I'm there taking photos. Thanks for watching, and the great comment. Sean

Possibly useful tips, but with photos that didn't really convince me to stick to those tips. They don't upset me enough. And that is at least what I demand from every photographer who shows me his work.

Well, thanks for the info - I suggest you go and find some journalistic photos of the Vietnam War, NI foot patrols from the 1970s, or The Bronx is Burning journalistic photos, they will probably upset you, and get you thinking. All the best, Sean

@@SeanPDurham : I believe that the subject of a photo does not determine whether the photo is interesting. If you let an average photographer take a photo of a war zone, the photo will remain average. On the other hand, if you have Henri Bresson take a photo of a gray wall, there's a good chance that photo will blow my socks off.

It's strange that this video popped up on RU-vid for me. I had just come to the conclusion earlier today that street photographers are a different type of people. I thought of this after warding another video earlier today. I mostly take landscape and milky way photos. I do portraits on occasion. I've even tried my hand at macro and wildlife photography. But street photography is different. I guess it's because the trees, stars and animals doing really care if you take their picture. Of course, people wanting portraits don't either. It's taking photos of strangers without them knowing or without their approval that's different. I started trying street photography last year. There's not many people doing that type of work around here so you stand out to some people. Nobody notices if you have a smart phone out taking random photos but they notice a camera. Nobody has said anything to me yet. I just feel self conscious about it. I don't live near cities where there's large crowds but we do have fairs and festivals from time to time. The more people there is around you the less people pay attention to others around them and what they're doing. I don't know if I have the disposition to be a good street photographer but I think it's important to learn different genres to help you be creative and to hone your skills. But I could be wrong.

I totally get you. If you aren't living in a big city, then street photography can be difficult, simply because people notice you pointing the camera at them. Cities are high voltage, stress filled places, so the people are really busy in their own world as they move about the streets, or sit in groups outside cafés and so on. I'd love to spend some time doing landscapes, and the Milky Way! It's just that I'd have to travel a lot to do that - the nearest mountains are probably in Poland, then South Germany - Berlin countryside is interesting but a bit samey all over - flatlands. Even in a city setting, you have to be respectful and careful about taking photos of people. I seldom do any street portraits. It's big time illegal all over Europe. I also feel uncomfortable taking street portraits because I don't know the person, and I don't particularly want a photo of their face. Composition is the big thing in good street photography. There's so much you can do when you have a composition mind-set out on the street, and forget about "candid portraits". Thanks for your comment, it was very interesting to read and prompted me to answer as fully as I can. All the best, Sean
