I bring my 3Ds with me every so often in the hope to see that little green light pop up, sadly it doesn't happen as much anymore. I love this feature a lot and enjoyed the large amount of visits at the gate I would get when visiting conventions. A few years back it would even lit up if I was just sitting at home, due to people passing by my appartement who also happened to have a 3Ds. Lets try to keep it alive as long as we can :)
@@CHAZBROSKI I remember streetpassing like crazy at PAX West and it was great. Sadly, I had to sell my old 3DS during covid due to financial issues. Luckily, I have gotten some more on my other 3DS systems and I have a moded one that now has netpass.
Been trying to take mine everywhere again. The 3DS will most likely always be my favorite handheld of all time. I'll admit though, I haven't gotten a Streetpass in awhile. Except for my other 3DS consoles at home. I'm really glad Streetpass relies on local connectivity and not Wi-Fi or some kind of service that will eventually be cancelled. Streetpass can last forever!
I always bring my 3DS to conventions. It makes me very happy each time i see the little greenlight. I even bought every streepass DLC game before the eshop closes because I want to be able to fully enjoy streetpass in the future in case I still get a rare encounter.
Street pass is an interesting/rewarding concept but I feel it poses problems once it loses popularity. Some games have certain unlockables tied to street pass requirements. Which makes things tedious when attempting completion runs. It took me a couple of months of street passing my gf’s 3ds to unlock auras in Yokai Watch Blasters. I agree with your points on preservation. It’s a shame to see them abandon so many great works of art. A potential solution can be implemented. Perhaps if they’d open the eshop once a year for a short duration of time (maybe a couple of weeks or so). It would reflect well on them for continued support of older games that paved the way and I’m certain the community would be grateful.
Yeah that's a great point. StreetPass being packed with a lot of content goes both ways. It's great to sink your teeth into but I'd imagine it'll only get more difficult as time passes
Great video! I'm glad that there are people out there who still enjoy the simplicity of the 3ds and are starting to feel nostalgic for it. On top of that, it feels as although the switch can't even compare to the 3ds in a multitude of ways, the 3ds just has a way too much personality.
I loved streetpass, added sooo much helpful cool stuff to games, i would take my 3DS with me to school everyday to get play coins and on the way to school i'm pretty sure there was a nintendo zone or something because i would get 10 streetpasses every time - it's a miracle these days if i get 1 though - i also miss when they would give out special miis with spotpass, i missed out on a few of them and it doesn't really seem like anyones backed up the data for these miis in anyway so getting them today is probably impossible
I always carry my 3ds with me literally everywhere I go just to get a streetpass. I once visited a big city in Germany for a day, and had 13 streetpasses at the end of the day
There was a convention in my city this weekend and it's a very small convention, but I still decided to bring my 3ds with me in hopes of maybe getting a streetpass, but unfortunately I had no luck, remember yall need to bring your 3ds with you when you go to conventions. Most larger conventions usually have plenty of people there who are doing streetpass. I was able to get a streetpass on the bus on my way to school several months back though so thats cool.
Excellent video as always, Yello. The 3DS street pass times were quite interesting where you had some games that fully implemented and fully endorsed the street pass ability while others were just a small blurb on the back of the box of the game. However, street pass is and will always be to me one of the most innovating features in a game console. Another well put together video where you went out of the way with editing and research. Keep up the great work!
Sadly, with the 3DS becoming growingly aging hardware, certain things that cannot be easily reproduced are on the chopping block to potentially becoming lost to time and Streetpass is one of them. Another thing is the 3DS' GBA-mode(You know, the thing that was officially only used for 10 free games, lol) as no one seems to have any plans to emulate it. Sure, many people say it sux compared to any dedicated GBA-option and they are probably correct, but it is what I grew up with and I'd like to eventually get that unique experience again, even tho my old 3DS is basically in a state of disrepair(I was a clumsy kid who did dumb stuff) and had to be shelved a long time ago.
For me, despite having an Xbox, a Switch, and a high powered PC gaming rig there's just something special about the 3ds (not that my backlog of games in my small library on my 3ds aren't contributing to that at all to continue to still play it in 2023). And I wholeheartedly agree. If Nintendo isn't going to preserve their games, someone else will; and that someone will make a "storefront" where they can be downloaded for free and Nintendo misses out on all the potential profit they could have had, even in remastering or re-releasing via emulator on current consoles the same games (yes, I know there are certain technical limitations, but you know what I mean).
Why they didn't bake in some new Streetpass functions into the Switch, IDK. That would've been so amazing! I ALWAYS took my 3DS with me everywhere because of StreetPass!! Nintendo, bring back StreetPass!
One of these days I'd love to go somewhere with my 3DS with me and get that little green light. Especially since I kinda want to get some special clothes and food in Tomodachi Life. Streetpass is pretty nifty ngl and I totally missed out on it. I didn't even get my 3DS until like 2018 when I got into Animal Crossing thanks to Pocket Camp. And when Miitomo shut down, that got me to look into Tomodachi Life.
I miss streetpass mii plaza so much! Come on everyone turn on your 3DSes again and let’s streetpass again so people can finish the puzzle pieces for puzzle swap.
GREAT VIDEO! (Like all your other videos!) Not sure how many Street Pass connections I got over the years, but I have at least a few hundred easily. I always made sure to keep my 3DS on when walking through airports and public places where gamers are likely to be (conventions) and racked up a TON of Street Passes over a few years that way :) The feeling of turning on my 3DS and getting 10 brand new Street Pass connections = so good! :) Then going in to Find Mii and taking forever to beat the monsters 😂 I need to dust off my old trusty 3DS because that system has been GREAT to me.
Pokemania was amazing. Though pokemon is much larger now, i dont actually know anyone who plays it. Back then wed be battling or trading over the link cable and trading cards with everyone at school.
I recently dusted off my 3DS to play some more chill games and was thrilled to see to the little green light and revisit a now bygone era. I love its focus on community, whether that's Street Pass or getting in game currency by just walking, going outside and taking your 3DS with you. I am devastated though that I let the closure of the eshop pass me by without much thought. I booted up Smash Bros 3DS and was amazed I could still find people online to fight/play with. It's very janky but still charming/nostalgic in a weird niche way. BUT I AM SO PISSED cuz I never bought the DLC fighters and now will never have the chance 🥺😢😭 video games with features like that need preservation!
Streetpass is great. I remember getting those at PAX and other random places like: neighborhoods, malls, traffic and even in public bathrooms. Haha! I just subscribed and I also make nintendo content on my channel too.
I just wish you were able to by pink puzzle pieces for 100 coins. the only ones I'm missing are pink and I don't think I'm going to find anyone to complete them.
