So far, so good, The Toxic Avenger would be an 80s movie I wish more people knew about, might inspire a future filmmaker to see what can be done with little to nothing \m/

SoF seemed like it was a movie made with love. For me, it had two of the most important elements in a movie, excellent writing and acting. It was also another example of a ‘80’s movie with strong female characters. Having strong female characters wasn’t out of the ordinary back then. And when they were in a movie it never turned into a “look at meeeeee” thing.... Thanks for reviewing this one.

Awesome review! I learned about this movie from my dad. We were talking about the band Fear, and he mentioned that the lead singer plays Raven's right hand man in this movie. He told me that this movie was junk food basically, but when I saw it, I loved every minute of it!

I saw Lee Ving in Ventura at the Vans Tour several years back and he was performing on the OG stage with his band FEAR, and I asked him about the experience making the movie, in Hollywood and on location in Chicago. He was surprised at the question because no one ever asks him about it and he was jazzed to talk about it. He said he really dug the experience although it did drag at times. I asked him about being in the scene aka my favorite movie fight of all time and he said that it took them more than two weeks to film that 5-6 minute scene. Crazy, right? He looked pretty much the same, and he basically looked the same as when I first met him in Hollywood during the eighties, probably a vampire now that I think about it. Explains a lot.

I kept waiting and waiting for you to mention the song “I can dream about you.” It is the music video for that song that brought me to the movie in the first place. It is instantly catchy and you will never get it out of your head once you hear it: “moving sidewalks, I don’t see under my feet.“

I love this movie. Here In Syberia absolutely all the fans of this film I know learned about it from me. Hill and his works are this far from most of my compatriots. At the same time, his movies hit me so accurately that I simply cannot name a director whose film language would be closer to me. Thank you very much for this review and for your channel, which I came across thanks to this video. You are doing very important work for all fans of rare movies, of which I also count myself.

Saw it when it first was released in theaters. Knew it was an absolute classic the instant it opened with that concert. Bought the soundtrack cassette shortly afterwards (and later upgraded to the CD version). Such a damn good movie. And, yeah, Michael Paré got done dirty - he deserved to be a much bigger star for the performance he turned in on this movie (and in Eddie and the Cruisers - another cult classic). Thanks for doing this review (even if I'm seeing it 4 years later).

Whoa!!! How the fuck did I miss THIS one?!!! Rock music, gang wars, pre-PLATOON Willem Defoe, Amy "Mrs. Ed Harris" Madigan, Rick Moranis... I gotta check this out and turn the volume up to 11! As far as 1980's films I wish more people would talk about, one that takes the Top Spot every time for me will always be LIFEFORCE (1985) - the original Tobe Hooper-approved international cut, that is. It came out the year I was born (just like STREETS OF FIRE), it has all the elements I love from the bottom of my heart and always want in a movie, and it's the kind of film that we're not getting more of these days! (God I miss the 80's!)

The director of “Cyborg”, Albert Pyun, who passed away a few months back I believe, made a sequel to “Streets of Fire”, and showed it unfinished a couple of times several years ago. He was supposed to release it eventually. Michael Pare was in it, but man was it dark. Deborah Van Valkenburg played his sister again but alas no Diane Lane. Some new music, nothing epic like the original soundtrack but a couple decent songs, especially the covers of 2 from the first film. I think you can still find his trailer on RU-vid or elsewhere on the net.

This film is 150% psychological!! Baby Doll and The Sorells are projections of Ellen Aim's youthful persona which she gives way to as her lost love reappears topped by her abduction and prisoner condition. Also, the people of the Richmond District, are ALL super tolerant!! Btw: I truly believe that Lee Ving (Raven's 2nd), throws a shot at Rick Moranis which later in 89's 'Batman', is homaged by J. Nicholson, "You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses on would ya?" Madigan to Moranis: "You know it's hard to figure out which is worse, the way you talk...or the way you DRESS!!" 😂😂 🤣😎

I'll give you some good double features :) 1) The Warriors and Streets of Fire (Obviously) 2) You can never go wrong with a Burt Reynolds double feature so Gator (1976) and Smokey and the Bandit (1977) 3) Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes 4) The Thing and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) 5) I love a good vigilante movie so Death Wish and Ms. 45 6) A good post-apocalyptic movie can be fun for the drive in so Damnation Ally and A Boy and His Dog 7) Since I'm an Italian horror fanatic Zombie and The Beyond (I love Fulci) 8) Euro Crime never gets enough love so The Italian Connection and Street Law 9) I love Jack Hill so I would highly recommend Coffy and Switchblade Sisters 10) And last but not least Carsploitation. The original Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) and Death Race 2000

I watch this movie every chance I get.I still can’t believe I hated it the first time I saw it.As far as 80s movies that I wish got more recognition, the one that comes immediately to mind is something called Meet the Hollowheads, which was called Life on the Edge when Fangoria reported on it.I’m not sure how to describe it,but I like to think of it as a sitcom on another planet. For example,I think there was a Honeymooners episode in which Ralph Kramden(Jackie Gleason) brings his boss home in an effort to impress him.Thats what this movie is ultimately about, except when you add the details of this other world or other reality(or whatever it is),it gets weird beyond my ability to describe.I think it would make a good double feature with that Empire movie from the 80s called Terrorvision.I know, you’re thinking I have questionable taste, and you’re probably right.Sorry about the length, but I guess we keyboard warriors just don’t know when to stop.
