Fun fact: this movie inspired the 1989 Capcom coin op beat em up, Final Fight, with even the protagonist being named Cody (pare’s character ) willem dafoe’s outfit was straight up ripped off by the bad guys in the game (Dug, Jake, Simons, Bred) ; now, it might’ve also inspired streets of rage, but it directly influenced Final Fght. They basically made their own version of this movie in a game. Even down to the fact you have to rescue the girl. And last but not least the movie was directed by Walter Hill, who also made the warriors (1979) 48 hours(1982) and its sequel , which they all have this pseudo 1950s post apocalyptic vibe to em.

The two songs "sung" by Diane Lane were written by Jim Steinman, who is a very popular songwriter who wrote most of Meat Loaf's best songs (Bat Out of Hell, I'll Do Anything for Love) The soundtrack lists the artist as Fire Inc & this was the only album they performed on as it was created for the film and they are great songs. The opening song is "Nowhere Fast" which Meat Loaf would sing with alternate lyrics later in the same year. The end song is "Tonight is What it Feels like to Be Young" Steinman also wrote for Bonnie Tyler, Barry Manilow, Sisters of Mercy & others. He deserves all attention as a songwriter.

Dude..I absolutely caught this by chance one day on cable yeeears ago, like Bill P. (RIP!🙌) was actually still around. And damn, now I'm asking myself if the scene at 2:12 had influence on any scenes in 'Tuff Turf'(1985) which had our "Grease"y greaser playing the lead asshole/antagonist. That's also right! That's Lee mo'f'n Ving at 9:23 I could only hate him when he shot Flea in Penelope Spheeris' 'DUDES'(1987), starring Jon Cryer and Daniel Roebuck. That movies bathroom scene where Flea suggests "CALIFORNIA!", is a page ripped straight outta my life...and I was only 6-7yrs old when that movie came out. 😎

second post Tonytoes reacts: You watch Seagal films and call this a confusing fight scene? No body doubles no looped shots, no weird slaps. No Al Pacino Cruising joke, is that because you want a family friendly channel or your audience is too young to have seen Cruising? I wonder what RedEye would think of Willem Dafoe's other biker movie The Loveless. Dafoe's second in command was in a bunch of movies but he is also a musician including in the punk band Fear, why wasn't there a song by Fear in this movie? And after this Amy Madigan(McCoy) would be nominated for an Oscar(but not for this film)

It is so flawed, and some of them are very obvious. You have to wonder why they didn't even try to explain why the bikers didn't have guns, why the protagonists plan was so bare bones but still worked. The whole middle of the movie is a bit of a slog. But then again... some of it is really really entertaining. The operatic rock, the out of time nature of the setting. It almost feels like it could be taking place in Dark City. Plus the soundtrack is great. They play Rumble in a fight scene long before Tarantino used it in Pulp Fiction. It's not a great movie, but its worth a watch, and it has moments that really work. Plus yeah, seeing the good guy just body his girlfriend is hilarious. Also, is that Carmen Sandiago's Chief driving the subway!

You're not wrong. Ironically, Walter Hill would work with Stallone years later for the film Bullet to the Head. So here's a fun fact: In looking for Tom Cody's main actor, the studio tried for Tom Cruise, Eric Roberts, Patrick Swayze, as well as others who are unnamed. According to an interview, the crew hoped to get Daryl Hannah and Tom Cruise on board, but they waited too late, and the actors signed on to other projects. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they tried for Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kurt Russell, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis, Rutger Hauer, David Carradine, Nick Nolte, Jeff Bridges, Michael Beck (Who played Swan in The Warriors), Christopher Reeve, Peter Weller, David Keith, Jeff Goldblum, or the actors from Eddie and the Cruisers (The film Michael Pare was in, who became Tom Cody). Heck, we could have seen Henry "Fonzie" Winkler in the Sledgehammer fight (Who was in The Lords of Flatbush with Stallone). Sadly, I doubt Mr. Winkler would want to deal with Typecasting again. 😂 Judging how everything turned out, it can only be summed up to this: If the actors listed above were approached before Mr. Pare, they more than likely turned the role down. Either because of scheduling conflicts, poorly written script, or the studio wasn't willing to pay them for what they were worth. Edit: The Jennifer Grey look alike is played by E.G. Daily, a known voice actress who would become the voice of Tommy Pickles in Rugrats (Apologies for the previous edit). However, on the note with dancing... They may not have gotten anyone from Dirty Dancing, but they did get folks from Flashdance. Greer, raven's second in command, is played by Lee Ving, who was in Flashdance. The Torchie Dancer, as the film credits this character, is played by Marine Jahan, Jennifer Beal's dance double from Flashdance. This character might as well have been a red herring. I was expecting the characters to interact with her to find Ellen because she got more camera time in the Torchie bar than Diane Lane. Nope! She was just there to do a weird strip tease while Ry Cooder played his cameo in the same scene as her. They could have cut her out of the film, and the script wouldn't have been affected, but I guess that's not what Walter Hill wanted. 😅 In regards to Jim Carrey, I wouldn't be shocked if he auditioned for this part. Jim was born in 1962 and didn't start acting in films until 1981 if you count Television Movies. Had he got the part, he and Diane would have been the same age during filming... but imagine Jim in leather overalls. That would have been a sight that would sit rent-free in people's minds for years. 😳

Lee Ving from F.E.A.R.! He's the one who punched out Rick Moranis. I'm pretty sure he lived life like in this movie. He was also Mr. Boddy in Clue, and other stuff. FEAR played on SNL in the early 80s, and Ian McKaye and the DC punks showed up to slam dance, Belushi did a windmill, Donald Pleasance was bombed, and Lee Ving said they were happy to play in New Jersey. New York's alright if you like saxaphones.
