Everyone who's been on my documentary or street photography workshops is invited to join the StreetSnappers Collective. This is a very active and engaged group of street photographers from around the world who are passionate about their art; everyone is at a different stage of their street photography journey, from complete beginners to seasoned practitioners.
This video is a selection of their work from last year. When you're looking at these images, please bear in mind that this is the first time some of these students have tried street photography and I hope you will view view their efforts with the same sense of encouragement and adulation that I do.
If you would like to join the Collective, there's only one entry requirement: that you have attended one of my workshops. You can see them at www.streetsnappers.com.
____________
I'm the Founder and Course Leader at StreetSnappers, an organisation which provides street photography workshops and courses in London and across the UK, Venice, Lisbon, Prague and Paris. Brian, this is a brilliant display of the unlimited possibilities of street photography. I have no idea from viewing the images who was experienced and who was just beginning. Thanks for providing this window into your student's work. I hope you do this again, as it provides so much inspiration and pleasure.

Bearing in mind these are students or former students developing their own styles , I found a number that were very good and worthy of being examples I wish I had taken myself …. For somebody like me that is praise indeed . I think you should do more like this to showcase such work . Not only does it expose the photographer to contemporary practitioners of this craft , but it also influences the contribution of others internally and externally to this group . We all needed to start somewhere and be encouraged and taught to make the most of our talents, no matter where a person currently is on that journey . Thanks for the video - I enjoyed it

Hi Brian. I know this isn't a competition, but I particularly liked the shot by Sharon Eimerman of the couple exchanging looks during the anti-Shell demonstration. It personalises the protest brilliantly -- and brought a smile to my face.

What a great idea and what a fascinating video, many thanks to you and your StreetSnappers. I found it both inspiring ( to get out and shoot) but also slightly intimidating ( so, so much patience, creativity and quality shown). But I also kept thinking this collection would make a fascinating book…

Thank you for sharing your student’s work. Whenever I see a slideshow of street work I love some images and others I just look at and think, this is your best work? Or what is so interesting about this image that it was selected to be posted? Not that I could have done better. Or I look at the image and think I would have done this differently (better?). Always food for thought. I enjoyed a couple of the Saul Leiter inspired images. Also the juxtaposition images. Even the ones I didn’t appreciate I say well done for going out with your camera and pressing the shutter release. I’ve been negligent of doing my duty. Mask On Nurse Marty P.S.: Ould like to join your community but don’t see myself leaving North America any time soon. NONM

There were some really good images in there. I'm a big believer in using colour or black and white for a specific reason. I love the ones with a 1970s Kodak look, some lovely colour-grading going on that really makes colour work. It's not glaring or distracting. So I'm not anti-colour, but I generally think a Street Photo should work in black & white, in that you are drawn to the story of the subject, and it doesn't become about a bright red telephone kiosk, or a Hi-Viz jacket. I love the video slideshow format though. I've started using RU-vid slideshows for my own images, as a way to display them to family and friends. It means they can see them on a large TV screen if they like.

I've been watching and enjoying your channel for years but just subscribed today, I do that with many other channels and I'm starting to feel a bit guilty for reaping the benfits of your hard work without giving anything back. I have a channel, of sorts, but have not tried to meet RU-vid's algorithm standards so after two years, I only have a little over 3 hundred subscribers. I'm just begining to realize how hard you must work to create the high quality content on your channel, thanks for all the hard work!!!

I have come to realize from looking at this series that no matter the technical quality of any singular street photograph, its meaning and agreeableness emerges within a series that correlates to a geopolitical time and place. However, there is the exception of universals such as those rare shots that through luck and persistence appeal to expressive humanism such as the shot of the statue holding the cross and two persons pointing towards the numinous.

Thank you Brian for a well selected and presented group of photographs. All were good, some were exceptional. I applaud your presentation of the selection and your allowance of time to view the photos. I know little of the workings of RU-vid, would it be possible to present a slide show that the viewer can choose the speed of progress?. Please keep up the good work.

Hi Bryan! I recently watched your video about street photography cameras and I noticed you said that the X100V is light years ahead of the X100. I was thinking about buying my first camera for street/travel photography since I recently started the hobby with my iPhone 13 Pro and my recently acquired film Leica Mini Zoom. I can find the X100 for approximately 300€. Is it worth it or should I give more for a better one?
@StreetSnappers
@StreetSnappers 2 года назад
Hi Nick. They get progressively better as they get newer. The earlier models such as the X100 are good enough in good light but start to suffer when the light falls. I would get the best you can afford - the F would be my choice if you have the budget :-)

When you walk through any art museum you don't - not in my experience - hear music in the background. When you look through a book of Henri Cartier-Bresson's photographs you don't have music in the background, right? I think that, here, if you had to choose background music, you chose the wrong music.
@ElyRiverBlues
@ElyRiverBlues 11 месяцев назад
No right or wrong answer to this. It's a matter of individual taste. Personally I liked the music. BTW Brian as a newcomer to this channel, I thought this curation was excellent!
@Gravitys-NOT-a-force
@Gravitys-NOT-a-force 11 месяцев назад
@@ElyRiverBlues , photography is art, right? How many art museums have you walked through in which senior museum management felt that the art on display needed a loud-jazz-music backup?
