Thank you so much for this video. It's very clear and precise and the presenter shows vast experience with the process, she really demystified the whole process.
Thanks for sharing this helpful information. From it, I have gained additional, in-depth information--specifically regarding the Statement of Purpose and the Personal Statement. This information will help me prepare and complete a winning graduate application.
Great video, I know I'm 6 years late but just started getting excited about attending grad school 20 years after undergrad. How would I approach the letters of recommendation after so much time has passed?
Mam, you have us a multidimensional insight into the application process. I found it very helpful and has infused many ideas which I can apply. This video was very helpful. Thank you.
Yeah... not sure about the lunch thing.... Seems like a pretty terrible idea. Sending the faculty member roses and candy afterward is also a silly idea.
Very comprehensive talk. This bias towards "positive thinking", being tilted towards the faculty way of thinking, making yourself look to be in a favorable position, is it somehow assessed in correlation with the reality we live in or is it accepted to be "good one" just because being positive and motivated, a hard working hunky looks to accommodate with our intuitive ideas about how a "good" candidate should look like? I mean, it's quite a strong bias one should commit and follow go fit this paradigm, so is there some scientific results that show that following this paradigm is superior than a different way (perhaps not so "shiny and perfect", but dedicated to the values that the future faculty is about)? If there's no scientific proof (or at least some analysis that could be thought of), does this "road" really follow in the direction of what is called "scientific approach" or one has rather to be a "believer of concept" (all those things that you've been talking about for half an hour) in order to be elected into the "closed circle of chosen ones" who would get aboard?
Why wouldn't a community college professor letter of recommendation be valid? You act as if a four-year college professor is more in tune with the potential of said student to succeed in graduate school. Why is that?
she considers california students leave the state...yet if you look at the figures, the majority of students in california schools are from california...so they're not listening
Seriously? Ask the prof out to lunch, and pay for it? First of all, we have to agree with all of your political rants, and NOW we have to buy you lunch? For a letter of recommendation for law or med school, should we take you on a cruise to the Bahamas?
Bill Browne Actually in the professional field it is very common and appropriate to ask people out to Lunch and get on excellent terms with them. If two students are parallel in intelligence and participation, you're going to remember the one that took his/her time out of their day to buy you lunch and got to know you
Hi, Ms. Trujillo. I consider myself diverse. I'm a right-wing Republican who is anti-abortion. Wouldn't that help diversify your campus? I started my own business, and make a good living. I don't need financial aid. I also refuse to hire illegal immigrants, since that is against the law. I'm worried that my beliefs are not welcome on your campus. Any thoughts?
Bill Browne I think your suspicions are correct, your beliefs would probably not be welcome. You might consider not implying that you dislike illegal immigrants. Because it’s known that if Swedes we’re trying swim across the river with their blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin and tall stature. No one would really care... Therefore people would think you’re just a bigot. And no one wants a Alt-Left/White nationalist. Except for other white nationalist. So why rock the boat. Just shut up and keep this to yourself.
This woman acts as if you have to ask a faculty member for a letter of recommendation. What if the person has worked their way through college, and wants an employer to write their letter? Does their opinion count? What about accomplishments in the work world? Why didn't you mention that? That is meaningless to you? You are obviously an insulated prof who doesn't deal with real world problems. Diversity education is bogus to begin with. I would probably take you to Burger King and get you the 5 for four dollar deal. That's because I like your style. You know how to sell yourself. It would be worth the cheeseburger and onion rings just to hear your nonsense.
