Fully automatic shifting and start mode is available with Nexus Inter-5E dynamic internal gear hub, designed specifically for the unique demands of e-bike riding. Automatic shifting provides a smooth and stress-free riding experience by ensuring you are always in the right gear.
With automatic shifting your bike will change gear when you need it to; going up hills or down them, speeding up on the open road or slowing down in traffic. Start mode automatically down-shifts when you come to a stop so you are ready to pedal away with ease and control. With gear shifting done for you city cycling is even more fun and easy!

Given the fact it's 5-speed innerhub i guess it will be intended for commuters or city-bikes, so there is no point to cry about how it ruins the feel or sportyness of manual shifting. For example my mom: she started driving in the 80's Russia, so she can drive not just manual transmission cars, but manual choked, she laughed when our 17y/old neighbor told her about drifting, cause winter driving in Russia is all about inertia and grip management. Yet in day-to-day live she just don't want to give a crap about it, and says that best thing happened when we moved in to the city, where is no need to drive or have a car.

As a person who has never driven a car with an automatic transmission, I want one so bad, manual is great, no problem with it, but it would be even better if I don't have to shift. Manual is for the track, drifting and overall for fun, but for driving in town, yeah no... it's not annoying, but it's not chill either. For a bike, I don't understand what's the problem with manual, it makes no meaningful difference really.

@@badass6300 Entirely depends on the individual. The extra hassle of shifting is not a nuisance for people who like the experience. Given the fact it's 5-speed innerhub i guess it will be intended for commuters or city-bikes, so there is no point to cry about how it ruins the feel or sportyness of manual shifting. It seems most bikes in those categories get pedalassist electric motors and pairing auto-shift and e-assist will make a beast of a bike, for getting around the city for average Joe. On the other hand, it will be hard to justify spending so much money on the everyday street-parked city-beater bike.

@@arthursnoeck An internal hub is a good idea. After riding a derailleur for 40 year I went to an internal hub and will never switch back. But a 5 gear automatic is something for e-bikes. I changed my cadence from 90 to 100 something that is impossible with an automatic. For many users which just want to get from A to B this is okay. IMHO if it gets more people on a bike I like it but it's nothing for me.
@rollingreclinerRecumbent
@rollingreclinerRecumbent 3 года назад
I have this on a recumbent trike along with the e6100 Steps motor and it is ok for urban stop and go riding, but not so great on the road. Hard to keep a constant cadence when there is 28% gear steps. Also, shifting is not so refined. 1st to 2nd is usually smooth, but the other 3 don't always seem to engage fully and you hear and feel a very loud "snap" occur seconds after shifting. It does have total manual mode or you can always initiate an up or down shift similar to what you can do in your car using the paddles. When doing this in auto mode, it does try to learn your style of riding and does adjust the auto shift points. One thing that bugs me though is how slow it is to complete the shift after pushing the button, a full 2 seconds. I have tried to stop pedaling on these shifts but doesn't help. My last gripe will be the indecisiveness in shifts that randomly occur when your speed slows down and getting near a shift point. It doesn't actually shift, but it feels and sounds like it shifts down and then back up. Annoying. Would I spec this hub gear again...nope. Rohloff is nice, but not if you do alot of shifting. Transfer my kid to kinder garden, goods from shops, some stuff for my job, you name it. Using additional cart I move furniture and so one. One year my bike took a lot of time outside in rain or snow, does not matter. And planetary hub had no dirt or water after two years of usage. And I also had never a problem which was needed to be fixed right away, some minor things happened once in a while, but it does not affect riding process. Recently I have added outside motor 350w on forward luggage place, and also SA 3 speed planetary gear on forward wheel, which I use to climb hills or to accelerate, or when I transfer some heavy load. Added one more chain, some more weight. Before that I used Inter 3 hub, it is not so much dirt resistant, but it lasted for 3 years, and still was usable, with minor defects, I serviced it every half a year. SA hubs also not very complicated, so I can service them myself as Inter 3 hub. I would not be able to do such bike on classic gearing.
