I only have a 4ft finish mower, but one of the first things I got for it was the nose roller. It certainly does help with scalping and helps protect the middle part of the deck.

WOW! I remember when you first had Johnny X up and running. I have been away for a couple of months and come back to see Johnny X with auto steer, a new paint job and towing blades that a tractor twice it’s size should be towing. Bravo. You have really pushed that tractor to the limit!

Good video showing all your toys. You mentioned clover; not sure why everyone wants to get rid of clover in their yard other than broadleaf control also kills the clover. Clover stays green and is good for the soil and grass as it fixes nitrogen, plus honey bees love clover.

Hello Tim from West Michigan. Love your channel! I have 6 acres and my beloved 2001 JD 425 with a 48" deck takes me forever to mow it all. Someday I'll upgrade to a 2000 series or possibly 3R, but for now I am having fun imagining my JD 425 pulling that Woods 12ft batwing to solve my problem. Yes, I know, I'll need a bigger tractor with a 35 hp PTO minimum. Enjoyed this one Tim for sure. God bless.

Tim… listening to you describe the effect of the oversized mower on Johnny X reminded me of a childhood neighbor. He raised and worked mules. (It was no coincidence that I grew up in Missouri!) As you could imagine, he had a lot of horse/mule drawn implements. One thing that I learned was that there were different mules for different tools. For example, when pulling a sickle bar mower you needed speed and agility. When plowing or cultivating you needed strength and endurance. He knew just which mules could do which jobs. Pairing the mules correctly was as much of an art form as was putting the correct one on the left (lead mule) or the right. Keeping a team on track, the implement in proper ground/crop engagement and moving at the optimum speed were skills he had mastered. I once rode a surrey rake for a little while. It looked really simple to see him do it. However, doing it on my own turned out to be a humbling experience. It seems that mules have a mind of their own. They also know when a rookie is holding the reigns. I went from a cocky 15 year old wannabe Mule Skinner to a frustrated farm boy in minutes! Guidance, power, operating temperature, fuel, equipment maintenance… you can learn a lot from a Mule that is relevant today. Thanks for taking me along on your workout session with Johnny X!

I noticed @13:50 when you talked about the auto steer whipping you around. What I’ve noticed with the bigger planter tractor I’m used to with a mechanical auto steer from John Deere sorta like yours but for a 7330… if you get 3 pass headland [Or End Rows.. whatever you call them] (enough to get the implement turned around and straighten up off auto steer) you have enough time to get your tractor onto the guidance line to prevent the whip.. lol many time learning planting. I had the crooked rows going into the headlands and was the talk of the farmers at the breakfast table plenty of times!

Tim, I find my cabbed 3046R lugs somewhat going up hill even with the stock belly mower. It does far better if the LoadMatch feature is enabled, then it doesn't let the RPMs drop when the hydro loads the engine going up hill. Pretty cool demo of the auto steer system. I've toyed with the idea of having something like that on a mower where I could record a path and play it back later for the mower to do the lawn by itself. I have way too many attachments I want to buy first though. I want a grapple and a backhoe for my machine.

I'd hazard a guess that your increased coolant temperature and the increased power being transferred through the geartrain for the PTO has as much to do with the high hydraulic temp as anything. I'd imagine working it like this, even without the high pressure/flow hydraulic pump, would cause high temperature.

Am I correct that the pto is hydrostatic? That is my guess for the high hydraulic oil temperature. Nice video. Congratulations on the drone flying approval.

No, the PTO is mechanical. It does have a hydraulic clutch.

Good information. are the two antennae possibly causing a point of reference issue that caused the wobble? For me, I'm thinking smaller scale as a robot mower but nice to know the accuracy is impressive.

Would the auto-steer take you right into the pond or other obstacle, or is there a way to prevent such a calamity other than manually?
@TractorTimewithTim

Only manually…as far as I know.

I know a rotary cutter is a completely different thing, but my B2650 is pushing its limits to pull a 5' brush cutter while you have a modified 1025r cutting all that?!? Johnny X is amazing.

Yea, not much grass being cut as compared to your brush cutter.

I am wondering if Johnny X would handle this mower better if a charge air cooler was installed. Since denser and thus more air would enter the engine.

we use Amsoil 2 cycle at 100 / 1. and 15w50 oil at a 100 hour interval works better and lasts longer 😁

I want to know more about the GPS system. Are you able to set boundaries by driving your areas? Does it support multiple "fields" and does it care about distances between areas? Meaning is it locked to a certain area?
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 2 года назад
Yes, yes, no, no. :-) In other words all positive responses. Did you see prior episode where I went through it in more detail? …I didn’t address these questions there, but I did explain ‘the pieces’.
