I am a strong believer in stretching . Years ago I had a severe pinched sciatica nerve . Stretching 3 days a week for around 3 months cured my pain . That was when I was around 20 years old . I am 48 now & I still stretch to this day .

10 years surfing never did stretching. I couldn't sleep anymore, couldn't complete 6 hours of sleep without waking up from the pain in my back. My muscles suffered from tendinitis, i was getting tired by simply walking. After a year doing regularly stretching i can see a huge change in my health/performance. At first i thought i had arthritis 😂 lolz

Great stuff, when you do your lunges and squats be sure to keep your knees in line with your big toe and don’t let your knee(s) go beyond your big toe, you want to be able to see your toes, and for the lunge your knees should be at a 90 degree angle, (or as close as possible.) or else you’re putting needless pressure on the joints. And not getting the stretch you could be.
@TomMorrison
@TomMorrison 5 лет назад
Mark Mirabella actually past 90 degrees the load is more distributed through the hips than the knees, knees should track the toes yes but squats that are intentionally stopped at 90 put more stress on the lower back and knees compared to full squats opening the knee joint up fully - although for most regular people it can take a long time to acquire the flexibility needed so that’s what makes the deep squat ultimately dangerous for them
@markmirabella4066
@markmirabella4066 5 лет назад

@TomMorrison
@TomMorrison 5 лет назад
Mark Mirabella yes it’s important to know where your knee is when doing lunges! What Max was actually working on building towards was a deep split squat, this is a fantastic progression for building a deeper squat as some people aren’t quite ready to just “sit in a squat” so doing one side at a time is way more achievable at the start! I also have loaded these up to 70kg for reps too! Great movement ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q0S_UdppWgU.html

Just found your channel, and forgive me if I missed this (I skimmed through the titles of your videos)-but consider learning Brazilian jiu jitsu. (Real, legit jiu jitsu, not the fake martial arts stuff that’s out there...). I’m a 30-something female who just started about 1.5 years ago. Lost almost 30 lbs in the first year. Hadn’t done anything quite that intense or athletic before (much less grappling or contact sport). Did my first competition about 13 months after starting. Changed my life. And it’s also purportedly the martial art that takes the longest to get a black belt compared to others, haha.

You said like David.. he stretches for 2 hours a day. :P
@TomMorrison
@TomMorrison 5 лет назад
Andrew Jones at his worst point he had to stretch for that long in order to get his body functioning again, now he doesn’t need that same amount. Same as myself when I injured my back, I had to do 90 minutes in the morning before even being able to do basic strength exercises which basically looked like more stretching and had to do the same before going to bed also. Now I happily lift and train how I want and only need to maintain what I have which takes little effort. That’s the extreme, Max was not in that same state as him so 20 minutes in the morning and a smaller routine in the evening was absolutely fine and more achievable. With everyone I work with their biggest obstacle is thinking “when am I going to fit that in!?” Small bursts daily is best for the general population, but if you wanted a movement like the splits for example which is more advanced flexibility then more time would need to be spent!

Why is it that when I see people talk about stretching they start doing calisthenics? Is this a new trend. What about static stretches? I've never found anything more effective to increase my range of motion than static stretches and P.N.F. with a partner. I'm pretty happy with my flexibility overall, but some days my body needs more attention than others. Still, this video seems to be another example of people using "functional movement" instead of regularly working to increase range of motion. Active stretching doesn't relax my muscle. It's part of a warm up for many, but I want my muscle to be relaxed and then I do light sets of less reps and less weight. Slowly, I increase tension as I increase sets to make it more challenging. Then, at the end of the workout, I do static or P.N.F. stretching again. When I do this regularly, it makes movement so much easier.
@TomMorrison
@TomMorrison 5 лет назад
Timothy De Vita static stretches can be beneficial for many people but if they are your only form then you can lack stability. If you move well during your training and use movements that require a full range of motion then static stretching is great after workouts! Main thing is that it works for you and you enjoy it! As ultimately we want things that we’ll be more likely to do more often 😄

Great video! Goggins stretches for 2 hours at night. Not sure how this is like his routine.
@TomMorrison
@TomMorrison 5 лет назад
Ryanem he did at one point but only as he was so incredibly broken, working with Max we wanted something that was easily done every day within the time constraints of a normal person with a busy schedule. In some cases over stretching can be counterproductive and dangerous as a loss of stability can occur 😄

Aren't the squats supposed to be flat footed?
@TomMorrison
@TomMorrison 5 лет назад
Deji D that is a regression variation that helps develop one side at a time, elevated heel on one side helps the other side to get deeper into the hip 😊
