Been natural for a decade and I’ve only recently (like the past year, yikes) gotten comfortable with letting my hair shrink up completely. I had a similar thought process as you of, I should be ok with letting my hair just curl up how it wants to naturally! Now I stretch only if I want to, not because I feel I HAVE to. Mindset is everything! Good to see you back btw ❤
I’ve been natural since like 2006/2007 and I go back-and-forth with the length all the time but the older I get the more I just accept my hair for what it is. I totally agree, thanks for sharing! And thank you ❤️.
I once heard a youtuber say "Maybe you dont need prepoo and just suck at detangling.. Maybe you don't need to condition 3 hours but your shampoo is drying.. Maybe you don't need creams but your leave in aint hitting.. Maybe you use butters & oils cus that cream sucked.. Maybe you don't need to stretch but rather *be patient and let it grow*" - I love that you ask questions and challenge your psychology because sometimes the problem isn't the 19 step hair style but just us
Brittany!! Hello beautiful and welcome back. I missed seeing you but am happy you were able to have a break even if it wasnt your intentions to do so. Your hair is absolutely gorgeous!! Take care and am so happy to see your lovely face again!! :)
Welcome back!🥰 Thanks for showing how you stretch your hair. I think if someone is going to stretch, using silk scrunchies in the way you have is a great way to do it.
Hey! Glad you’re back! I never considered stretching my hair until I saw u do it. Just recently decided that as long as my hair is healthy and the curls are defined, the length will show it self whenever. The shrinkage IS annoying and I wanna explain to folks that “ my hair is long”…lol..but whatever! I now love this hair and however these curls present themselves. your video content is amazing, keep it up❣️
I was under the impression that I had to stretch my hair in order for my wash and go’s to retain length, but I found that it’s more manipulation and harder to maintain because it’s not how my hair naturally wants to be. Yes! I’m there with you. However my curls are is how they want to be and that’s lovely. Thank you so much 💖 and thanks for sharing.
@@BrittanyMiaIts not hard work if you enjoy hair care, when my hair was relaxed i would spend every night doing rollers sets to get curls, then take down and fluff and define in the mornings, I will not feel guilty for "not accepting" shrinkage if I want my length to show, from the time we touch our hair it is manipulation, but if we dont want to stretch our hair we just dont, no need to drag why it should not be stretched... I understsand that not everone has the time, or dedication for certain things, but im obsessed with natural hair, even wash day is a count down to celebrate
@@candi1904 I don’t know what offended you about this nine month old comment, but congratulations on your dedication to your hair. The condescension in the tone of your comment is clear, and totally unnecessary. You’re clearly projecting, and it’s really weird. You should think about what you’re saying to strangers on the Internet before you say it. Especially on a nine month old comment.
happy to see you back!! ☺️💕 Even though I love my natural hair, I too struggle with wearing it a certain way. I’ve recently started experimenting with wash n gos and I’ve noticed that if my coils aren’t perfectly defined I’ll consider it a fail and just wear it in a bun for the week
Thank you, happy to be back! I’m coming to terms with the fact that I’m trying to appeal to a beauty standard that was never meant for me. The closest thing to the beauty standard for my hair is (at minimum) is long and defined curls. Yet, at the same time I do want long and defined curls lol because I think it’s gorgeous. I know I can have that, but only in time as I learn and listen to my curls. I’m also coming to terms with the fact that my hair is naturally frizzy and that frizz comes hand-in-hand with volume and can minimize definition the longer my hair gets. It’s not that I want to accept my hair, because I have accepted it. It’s that I want the world to also accept it and that’s a gift I am never going to receive. I say I’m OK with it, but it’s a journey and mental process that I face each day and in many different circumstances. And sometimes I’m really not OK with it. So, I take it one step at a time.
Hi Brittany, we miss you and your awesome content. We hope you are enjoying the remainder of the summer, and you are keeping well. Sending love and checking in to remind you that you are missed but we understand the break is needed. See you when you return. Bye for now.
Welcome back!! 💕🇿🇦✊🏾 I, too, have been doing mousse (spiked honey) wash and gos for the last few weeks and I only sleep on my satin pillowcase because banding my curls stretches it too much for my liking and then the frizz is crazy
Thank you! I slug my skincare at night, so sleeping without a bonnet or something on my head isn’t an option for me lol. Tfs, and I’m glad it works for you! As far as the frizz, you’re absolutely right. I really like my curls without the stretching and the frizz isn’t something I like. Especially when I’ve manipulated it to the point of being frizzy.
Thanks for sharing. Idk why people are against stretching hair. I have very dense defined curls and if I don’t keep it stretched it will tangle and knot up like no body’s business. It would probably be the same length my whole life
Yes, unfortunately I do. I’m still figuring out how to come about them but I’ll be getting my haircut next week on blown out hair and see if getting it blown out is how I want to go about it from now on. I believe getting curly cuts isn’t allowing for all of the damage and single strand knot ends to get snipped.
Nice to see you back!!! Ive been banding my hair for the last few months. This last two weeks ive only been banding the first day and 2nd day and then let nature take its course out of laziness and bc i left exactly like you u need to get use to my curls how they come out of my scalp. I have even been wrestling with the thought of is this my hair pattern or am I manipulating it into something its not😢
Thank you! These are also my literal thoughts. The whole purpose of the Wash N Go was less manipulation, but I’m finding myself doing more to make it look “better”, or more stereotypically attractive when it already looks great the way it is. I truly believe that attractiveness radiates when confidence is present, and I’m building my confidence with my curls every day. 🖤
Hello!!! Glad to see you back with this video!! When my hair was the length yours is now, I used banding to stretch my hair upon occasion. But, the longer my hair has gotten the more stretching has been helpful in keeping my strands from becoming ‘confused’ about where they should be and what they should be doing when styled in a wash-n-go. I now ‘pineapple’ my hair EVERY night. My hair hangs down past my neck after shrinkage and is also very thick but once I have it secured in the pineapple with a Jumbo scrunchie, I tie a silk scarf around my head (to protect my strands that are exposed) and I put a bonnet over the ‘top of the pineapple’. SOOO easy and quick compared to banding! I have a friend who wears a satin ‘tube’ at night to stretch her hair. Either method is much easier than banding (IMHO) and my stretched strands are good to go until Day 7. (I moisturize my strands daily.)
Hey! It’s good to be back, thanks. I’ve seen many naturals with longer hair do this, and it works so well. Once my hair is long enough for that I’ll give it a go. If my hair hung down past my neck after shrinkage I’d be doing the same thing! Tfs 💕 Also, how do you moisturize your hair daily?
Have you tried sleeping with a buff instead of a bonnet? I found just putting it on and sleeping in it stretches my hair. Maybe not to the extent of banding but stretches it enough .
I’ve recently tried the Grace Eleyae open cap and it does do a bit of stretching, but not like the scrunchies. I do like it though because it’s less manipulation which for me means less frizz. For the specific purpose of stretching, I prefer the scrunchies. As far as nighttime care goes in general, I do like to open cap but I’m not sure if I prefer it over the bonnet yet.
I usually band my hair while it's in twist after wash day. I have no problem with this and I get a good amount of stretch. I noticed that when I band my hair without having it twisted like i've seen some other RU-vidrs do, I get a bunch of single-strand knots. Love the look but not the knots lol. Does that happen to anyone else?
@@aestheticnorms a creator called DiscoveringNatural has a video on how to do it titled “How to stretch twists on natural hair in minutes”. I don’t think you should do it daily, as it could damage your hair.
@@BrittanyMia oh lol I was just curious cus you look like you could be. Also I really enjoy ur videos 🩵, I’ve been watching you for about 6 months and your routines are part of the reason I started shampoo 2x a week and styling in the shower. It’s such a game changer and I use way less product by in shower styling
