I got a brand new SMF about 6 months ago, and it was tight, and had lock stick. I kept working it, and the lock stick went away, and when I disengage the lock, the blade falls shut onto my thumbnail. All I do with mine is shoot some WD into the pivot every few months, and run it dry.
💯, the old heads would tell people complaining about lock stick and maintenance to shut up, use it, wash it under the faucet if it gets bloody/dirty, and douse it in wd40 when the time comes 😂😂😂. That’s the OG way. 👊
This was a really helpful video since I am relatively new to Striders and only have 2 at this point. Since this video was done a couple of years ago, do you have any updated info. about what kind of lubricant works best on Striders. On my Hinderers I use Knife Pivot Lube. Thanks.
Dudley Warner I’m glad it was helpful. That’s always my intent. I’m a Nano oil guy. I did a vid on KPL. I’m not a fan. I use 85wt nano or nano grease cut with 10w nano oil.
@@Alumapro23 Thanks, I will check out your video on KPL. I have also wondered how CRK grease would work. I really like the action and feel of my Medfords which apparently run on marine grease, but I'm guessing that works due to the weight and size of the blades.
Dudley Warner Depending on how old your Strider was/is, it came with fluorinated grease. Over the past 2-3 years, Strider has moved to an oil. I’ve never been a big fan of fluorinated grease. I find that it dries out too quickly and attracts a lot of pocket junk. I got a funny note (funny to me) and a tube of “christo lube” from Chris Reeve after a spa treatment once. He sent a note saying not to use whatever I was using because it wasn’t meant for knives and to use their grease 😂😂😂. I had 10w nano in there. 🤷♂️ Heavier blades do, typically, allow you to go a bit heavier on the viscosity too.
@@Alumapro23 Huh. You're the only one I've seen in a comment section that uses the nano grease and cut it. Almost made me feel smart. Ha! great vid btw.
I couldn’t use oil on any of my knives...They would be packed with saw dust and dirt by the end of the day...I just use thick grease unless it’s an OTF
I just got my first new strider last week it's the SnG frag pattern 3v and was wondering how long it took for your striders to break in. The one I got has a decent amount of lock stick and the action feels sluggish.
