Weather was foretasted to clear up Sunday afternoon so we snuck out to find some mackerel to fish for stripers in the river. Along the way we hit several deep ledges that are holding grounds for migrating bass.
When fishing or striped bass with any form of bait it is illegal to use traditional J hooks, only circle hooks are permitted. I find hooking the mackerel through the nose leads to a more natural presentation in the water and far less dropped baits than back or tail hooking.
Slot limit here in Maine for striped bass is one fish per angler per day between 28" to 35"
