ConfusedStranger what color did your hair turn out after the process ??? i’m in the EXACT position as you. I had an auburn/red hair color and then dyed it black multiple times and i NEED to go blonde(my natural color) because staying this color is way too expensive and horrible for my hair.

The vitamin C opens the hair follicles, which helps to loosen the dye that had been deposited on it. Anti-dandriff shampoos are rich in sulfates, which will suck the dye off of hair. This combination is a home remedy meant to remove dye. It will not lighten the hair.

HI J.S. TB ! My sincere apologies! We did not do the short film - budget and travel challenges - at the time this video was made, that project is rescheduled for this Fall. Then, since I was happy with my hair, I did not re-do the process on my hair either! Oy! Sorry on both accounts. The takeaway is, the process worked to bring the dark pigment out, about 2 levels in my hair, and I"m convinced if I did it again, I would get good results again! Try it!

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Slow your roll. Deep breath. I just saw this - and - I hope you waited 72 hours - at least 3 days to let your hair cuticle rest. Yes you can recolor - BUT - their needs to be some space between treatments! Go slow!

Hmmm ... what about starting at the website of your favorite color brand? Like going to Clairol, or L'Oreal, or Ion website to take a look at their color wheel and how they mix colors to achieve results? Just a thought to help point you in the right direction!

Did you find any useful information? I'm literally in the same situation. Had dyed red hair for years, covered with black box dye for years and now I'm so done with it. I'd rather just be somewhere close to my natural light brown so I can grow my hair out. It's such a sad process 😂

_m0lly I’m going through this process of letting the grey grow out naturally, I’m done dying it, my hair is long and has been box dyed black for many many years, although I’ve only been doing my roots and not the length there’s still that nasty built up colour that I need to lighten, so I’ve been using Apple Cider Vinegar shampoo and deep conditioner by Aveeno every 2nd day for 1 week then I rotate the following week again. Every 2nd day using head and shoulders. I’ve been doing this for the past 2 weeks and my hair has gradually lightened to a dark brown without drying it out! If you do use the vitamin c and clarifying shampoo method, give your hair a coconut oil treatment 2 days prior to doing it, this will lessen the dry and brittle factor. Then a keratin or argan oil treatment after. Good luck!

yes it does work. I did literally yesterday on old red hair that has been repeatedly dyed back to the red over the past three years. just do a ton of vitamin c with heads and shoulders dandruff shampoo. make sure you lather your hair while doing it.

Hi Liz - no I did not see increased hair loss after - BUT - I had invested in a tub of Olaplex to treat the hair with afterwards. I normally have a fair amount of shedding due to Hashimotos. :( Good luck to you! Are you taking Biotin supplements to help with your thyroid hair? It helps mine!

Liz Ross it’s prob Bc your hair is compromised to begin with. Try a good protein treatment like aphogee 2 step to strengthen but follow that up with a deep conditioner like shea moisture with manuka. I have Hashimoto’s too, but with already coarse, very curly hair which for most people with that hair type it is already dry. Add in thyroid probs and it was a disaster trying to manage. This is why most of us with hashi have this color issue. It just grabs fast and won’t let go and even a medium brown can turn blackish. Those two treatments have helped tremendously with my breakage and loss.

Yes it can help rove the color from your hair. Consider using a cool toner afterwards to help neutralize the warm red tone in the previous color.

@@amybradley9323 I would use no stronger than 20 volume. I use 10 volume but it takes a few sessions to get the color out. Do your lengths only, not your roots. Don't do your roots until the lengths are the color you want them to be.

If you have product on the hair, it will help lift it out. As for taking back to natural tone - there is only one way to find out!

No, blond means your hair was lightened and bleached. Blond/bleached hair is devoid of most color so you would have to do a color rinse to get it another color.

...or a semi permanent dye such as Manic Panic, Lunar Tides, etc until it grows out.

Agree 100% head and shoulders sortof has a grit to it and whatever in it that u can feel it strips your hair when u use it just regularly shampooing that u wont get from Neutrogena

Hi +PollaBear - I too had a very sensitive scalp afterwards and it was tight too! I babied my hair like crazy. No washing, brushing, styling - nothing for several days! I did intensive conditioners and Olaplex treatment afterwards. Still have a head of hair too! Be gentle on you!

It really really really worked on my hair! It took the black out to a medium brown, like going from level 1 black to level 5 brown. It smells - like the vitamin C powder, in my experience has a very strong scent - but, after a deep conditioner, my hair was lighter, and not breaking, and this whole experience was worth it!

MakeupUniversity I have one question if you don’t mind. How long did you have the “black” dye in your hair?

The Feria "grunge blue tint" which actually came out black on my hair was on for a full month - I was getting roots and there was no way to fix it except go lighter and I have thin delicate hair. I also, have a year's worth of boxed brown on my hair, so for it to come up about 3 shades was a miracle! I did wear a plastic cap (ie: walmart bag tied around my head) and a warm towel from the dryer over the plastic cap to try and heat up/accelerate the process. I don't know if those steps added to the effect or not? I did have a tender scalp after all of this too and I think I forgot to mention in the video? Overall, if you need to lighten without a chemical and use a natural chemical reaction, this could be for you.

@@krislanc1239 I agree with you, what my father did, everything he did, wasn't parenting. That's only one of the small issues. He should've never been a father, I would've thanked the heavens & stars had I not been born, especially as his child, but I digress. It is what it is & many parents across the US are like that. They try to use their children as almost an extension of themselves & when the child strays from their path, they get furious. But, on the almost seemingly rare chance, there are plenty of good parents around as well.

doesn't matter the name brand of dandruff shampoo at all. just as log as it is regular dandruff control with no conditioner. I use 1000 mg C pills crushed up (10) of them mixed with generic dandruff shampoo and it works amazing

I used oops and started on my ends and then mid shaft for 40 mins and then put it on roots for another 15 then scrubbed hair and my back that I've dyed for 2 years is orange but I got more to get out.

I think it would - but - if you have already paid for salon color and you aren't satisfied, perhaps try asking for the salon to make it right? And if all else fails ...the vitamin C powder and dandruff shampoo is your friend!

Loreal hicolor for dark hair is AMAZING & works WONDERS I dyed my hair multiple times BTW, but I went from jet black box dye for years to Rhianna red (like a bright cherry but it was gorgeous) using the loreal hicolor in the reds line. Now I dyed it back to black and want to get it to like a light/medium brown, honey color) & I'm gonna use a mixture of the hicolor in the blonde line in sandstone and the hicolor in soft Auburn with a 40 developer. (Pray for me😂😂😥😳🤦🙏) but this is what the woman at Sally's suggested. I wish I could get olaplex but she said after doing this , deep condition it for about 30 mins with a shower cap & while dying it just keep checking on it since im using such a high developer which I'm praying that also doesn't ruin my hair) but with the red from black it did take me about 3 times to get it to the desired red i wanted & I did it all in like 3 days maybe 2 lol. I actually even did 2 dye treatments in the first day bc the first time looked so bad SMH lol. But I didn't use anything in my hair to protect it, no olaplex nothing just deep condition it when you're done with each treatment. Also I didn't use ANY heat on my hair. NONE. Especially between each time you dye it ... I'm not sure what color you're going for but this was the most awesome stuff I've EVER used and I've been dying my hair since I was 12 & I'm 29 & trust me, I get bored VERY EASY lmao, so Ive dyed it at least once every 6 months AT LEAST. Sometimes I've dyed it 3 times in like a month lol. But yea anyway just use a deep conditioner , the loreal hicolor (Google it, it's cheap like $6 a box, & you can also mix colors together to get your desired look. (I forgot to mention that when I did my hair red I used a mixture of the chroma cherry true reds, think that was the name lol, and magenta. I know it sounds weird but trust me the magenta doesn't come out magenta at all and didn't add ANY purple to my hair bc I was BIG on not wanting any type of purple tones , cast, undertones, nothing. And it was so beautiful. I actually have a video of me dying my hair a really nice red color (but this was when it was already light so I didn't use the loreal hicolor bc that's only for ppl with naturally or dyed dark hair) but this is my husband's RU-vid account lol. If you're interested in seeing any of it the name is Ashley Quintana & it's my picture and then my banner (wallpaper) whatever it's called behind it says "Mrs.Quintana". My husband subs to me so if you look in his list you'll see my page. It isn't hard to find when I search for myself I was like the second or third one that popped up lol). I mainly do videos about makeup, if hyped up expensive (or cheap) products really work, I've done some colored contact try on hauls, stuff like that. Anyway LMAO sorry for the book I'm writing but yea I'm gonna try this first I bought the vitamin C tablets , already have head and shoulders and also I have baking soda or powder whichever one they say works and I'm just gonna mix them all together instead of doing separate treatments to try to get it as light as possible and as much dye out as I can before using the hicolor so it will hopefully work better at lifting the blackish/dark brown hair with red undertones I have going on right now lol. I just wanted to avoid bleaching my hair &don't have the $ for a salon so trust me loreal hicolor is going to be your best friend you'll love it. But just remember depending on how much/long you've been dying your hair & how dark it is you might need to repeat the process a few times, NO HEAT!!!, & also I wouldn't use a developer higher than 30. Idk what color ur going for like I said but you might only even need a 20. Higher the developer - more damage it does but faster it will change color and the more it'll lift. Just get a good deep conditioner, a shower cap for $1 (or plastic bag tied around ur head lol) & you're good to go!
