Fantastic! Now if I ever find a piece of Wagner or Griswold cast iron that needs to be reseasoned, I won’t hesitate to get it. I’m always looking for either of these 2 brands. Have plenty of Lodge (which I love too) , but would never pass up on those 2 brands. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed learning the process

Tracey McCulley...Ok...a quick word of warning...I found a smallish skillet marked Wagner, put it in my basket and before I went to cash out, decided to change my eyeglasses and take a closer look at the item......There was other text, one of which stated the size of the item and the other was "Made in China" I put the item back!!
@TheTraceyLynne

Her Homestead Skills thanks for the warning! I wonder if it was an “counterfeit “, or did Wagner at some point start having some made in China. As far as I know, they didn’t.

Hi there! Try "steel wool". I got some at Walmart and used it to maintenance a couple of my cast iron pans I had neglected this summer while I was busy canning. Used along with some kosher salt (larger crystals), it removed ALOT of buildup without me having to apply very much "elbow grease"! 😉 Good Luck! p.s. enjoying your videos - thanks bunches.

Sandi Jammes...Actually most of the difficult parts were not edited out...just the repetitive ones..I did have to heat the skillet under the broiler a few times to loosen the seasoning, but as others have said if you have a self-cleaning oven that would make that part of the job so much easier..then of course re-seasoning the thing takes time as well..

Pfffft… I got an old cast iron pan from My Grandmother- it needed to be stripped of years of gunk on the bottom. We had a bonfire then as it was starting to die down? I tossed it amongst the coals on the edge. Left it over night. The next day I took a steel brush and it was back to bare iron and I re seasoned it. Like brand new.

I once forgot to remove my cast iron before starting the clean cycle on my oven. The problem is once the oven locks it won’t open until the cleaning cycle is done. Needless to say, every single bit of seasoning was burned off.

At what point is cast iron just not worth it?
@craigs7181
@craigs7181 22 дня назад
@@EaglesQuestions If it's cracked or broken, otherwise they can be brought back to usable condition and in many cases like new or close to it. I had one I bought at a flee market that was extremely built up with carbon deposits and it took 3 treatments and seven days in a garbage bag out in the sun with Heavy Duty Easy Off oven cleaner to get stripped to bare iron with very little work on my part. Just rinsed and scrubbed it with a stiff nylon brush between each treatment and thoroughly dried it. Turned out to be a beautiful vintage Wagner Ware pan.

What would you have done if you had a self-cleaning oven? Thanks for the video, I have a LeCreuset frying pan with a heavy seasoning buildup I've been trying to clean for some time now, so this gives me some ideas. I have a self-cleaning oven and thought about using it, but you can't have any racks in the oven when using that function, and I would need to place it on the bottom of the oven.
@HerHomesteadSkills
@HerHomesteadSkills Год назад
If your LeCreuset frying pan is "enameled" it's not likely that placing it in a self cleaning oven will do anything to clean it, but I have never tried, so can't say for sure...I found that the only way to clean the inside of an enameled dutch oven (not leCreuset) but a cheaper model, however still an enameled cast iron item....was by soaking in a bleach and water mixture...the inside cleaned beautifully...the outside...not so much!
@gbennett58
@gbennett58 Год назад
@@HerHomesteadSkills If it were not enameled, how would you place it in the self-cleaning oven? I can't have racks in there when running the self-clean, and I am not sure if I can just put it on the bottom of the oven.
@HerHomesteadSkills
@HerHomesteadSkills Год назад
I'm not sure either, but if you don't use the Self-Clean function you should be safe to place it in the oven at 500 degrees...you also have the potential to warp the cast iron if the temperature is too high...so...me? I would play it safe and go to 500 degrees only.
@gbennett58

You can leave racks in the oven during self cleaning they will not slide as easily after but still useable. Self clean function will heat to over 800 degrees so keep that in mind before risking your cast iron pan
