After 15 years of playing, I'm truly enjoying the current state of product. Opening strixhaven set boosters with my wife is the most fun I have had opening ever. Period. Every pack feels awesome, regardless of dollar value. Cards have gotten to a point of just being generally good, with not much filler for abilities (on rares plus). Granted, the secondary markets response to this seems to be pushing up the price of pre high print product, which will in turn encourage WOTC to reprint more stuff.

Has anyone else noticed the drop off in the amount of rares in set boosters. I swear in kaldheim and zendikar rising it seemed like every other pack had like 3 or more rares.

they removed a wildcard slot after zendikar to make space for lessons and mythical archives (which draft boosters also have), so now set boosters are basically less value for money

The set boosters for Strixhaven feel SUPER shit to open even though it's a decent set with good cards, which is weird. Zendikar Rising was much more exciting of packs to open. I do think once they nail the Set Booster's contents down in order to appeal to not the whales that can afford collectors, but the orca's who still want to gamble in order to get cool stuff but with bit tighter budget we'll be in an amazing place for sealed lol. I've always hated how much absolute garbage you got in Draft boosters and how we'd get Master's Sets for 12$ a pack full of dogshit commons and uncommon with a shit rare unplayable in even EDH and the excuse of "WeLl ItS FoR ThE DRaFt EnViRoNMeNt"!

Global foil Tutor is about $100, Japanese etched foil is twice that. It's like crypto: the effort (read: money) you had to put into getting it, defines its worth.

Cool set although i was not hyped for it. No value at all besides the best card being a reprint, otherwise maybe a $15 mythic like prof onyx. I think the toned down power level on most of the cards is a good direction but my lord did they purposely push those dragons for edh, which is already getting too out of hand. Me and another guy at our lgs made a format thats $100 budget for the whole 99 plus commander (not counting basic lands), and so far games have been way more fun and everyone building to the same restrictions made a huge difference; my $100 emry deck is still really good but not on the level of my high end emry build. Many good cards in bulk that see no play, but in a $100 format where its mostly commons and uncommons, they do and it make the gameplay so much better and creative.

People seem to prefer the full foils over the etched currently. I think a lot of that has to do with the massive amount of collector boxes that were cracked right away and the market got flooded with the etched foil treatment MA cards. It seems the full foil card MA cards are rarer than their counterparts (that might not be true long term once more non-collector boxes are printed).

Having gotten a few of both i think i prefer the etched, the foiling is just really meh and doesn't do anything special for the card. Like i got a foil jp faithless looting thinking they'd really do something special with the torii gate or the kimono, instead it's pretty meh, the art and colors pop better without the blah foil

Otherwise they've done some sets where it was similar to it is now, but if there was a sword or something in the art they would accentuate it and they looked great. These just seem to have a layer of glossy mud on em.

36 packs of 15 cards in a draft box versus 30 packs of 12 cards in a set box. Draft packs have 1 rare (or mythic) and possibility of a foil (which can be any rarity). Set packs can have up to like 5 rares per pack (less than 1% of packs).

Does anyone got a good card connection website besides ebay? Or maybe some trusty Canadian card ebay dealers? Been asking around don't usually leave random messages but most people in Rudy's comment section are pretty knowledgeable about this stuff. Thanks anything helps

Go check out the the mox man on youtube. He's Canadian and post daily videos talking about the market and often mentions places to shop in Canada. Puts out great content and is very active.

My FLGS is Jack's on Queen in Elmvale, Ontario. Great guy runs the store, trustworthy and great customer service, prices are higher, but that's what I pay for. He doesn't update his website very often, but you can contact the store on Facebook and make inquiries. Beyond that, if your only concern is price, 401 games in Toronto. They ship for free over a certain amount and have a customer appreciation program plus lots of stock and sales. Pretty good service. I prefer Jack's on Queen because they're more personable. But 401 games is good if you can't make it to Elmvale and just want the best Canadian price online.
