Triumphal Arch in Astana is a landmark architectural structure built to commemorate the anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence. The structure stands 20 meters tall, symbolizing 20 years of Kazakhstan's independence. Pedestals feature niches containing relief sculptures that reflect the Kazakh nation's mentality.
To the left of the archway is the sculpture of Aksakal, symbolizing wisdom and the spiritual guide of the people. To the right is the relief sculpture of the Woman, the Mother, and the keeper of the hearth. Above, on the front of the Triumphal Arch, the inscription "Mangilik El" holds significant meaning.
The arch opened to the public on May 11, 2017. Visitors to the Triumphal Arch can learn about the city's history and the capital, visit the hall of periodic exhibitions, and see the majestic warrior sculptures "Baty, Guardian of the Day" and "Baty, Guardian of the Night" (created by M. A. Mansurov) before reaching the observation deck.
Permanent photo exhibitions are displayed on the staircases, including "The History of the City: Akmolinsk-Tselinograd-Akmola-Astana" and "Modern Astana." The hall features five touch-screen information kiosks with materials on "Multimedia Capital," "Triumphal Arches of the World," "History of the City," "Modern Astana," and "Historical and Cultural Heritage of Astana."
The "Ulytau" Alley is located between the Triumphal Arch and Turkistan Street. It covers an area of 1.2 hectares. The landscaped area extends 250 meters in length and 55 meters in width. The alley features replicas of Ulytau monuments, including the Terekty Aulie and Baikonur petroglyphs, stone statues known as balbals, copper smelting furnaces, saiga antelope sculptures, and the Amir Timur stone.
At the very center of the alley is a place called "Khan Ordasy." The original site is located in Ulytau. This is the historic place where Kazakh khans were enthroned on a white felt mat.
The main feature of the alley is the monument "Қазақ еліне мың алғыс" ("A Thousand Thanks to the Kazakh People"). Including its pedestal, the monument stands over 13 meters tall. The bronze sculpture symbolizes gratitude to the Kazakh people.
The central figure of the monument is a Kazakh woman in national dress holding children of different nationalities whom she has sheltered. Next to her are three children. The eldest child has Caucasian features. In the middle is a girl of European descent. The youngest boy is Korean, holding a vessel from which he is drinking water.
