Just watched a few of your criminally under-viewed Stromae reactions, I'm glad I came across your channel! Stromae's lyrics are very deep, as you say, and laced with double meanings and wordplay, which makes them very difficult to translate -- plus I don't think the captions do the best possible job of that. As an example, the chorus is: "Et c'est comme ça qu'on s'aime (s'aime, s'aime) Comme ça consomme (somme, somme)" The second sentence in the CC is "and that's how we buy (buy, buy)", but that's a strange and confusing translation. It's obviously a play on the similarity in sound between "qu'on s'aime" (that we love), and "consomme" (consume). The word "consomme" can be taken to mean "buy", but as with the English word "consume", that's not really what it means, and the sentence is "how *it* consumes". It makes more sense to see the "it" here to mean twitter/social media, and that it consumes us, our minds, etc. That's just a single line in one single song, and pretty much every other line of Stromae's writing has something like this going on lol.
Absolutely and the “Somme” is also a word for sleep. So a commentary on how social media makes us unaware or stop thinking critically. Like a zombie. I love this song it is crazy especially when you speak French.
