Appreciate everyone’s comments! One thing I’ll mention is that the bushings were torqued down with load from jacking up the hub. It was jacked up until the spring compressed to ride height. This mimics the weight that the car would have on the ground and allow me to reach the outer most bolt without the wheel on. Appreciate all the concern!
hey anthony beautiful install but i did this on my civic not to long ago and not sure if you did this but once the bolts are on you keep them kinda loose and then you drop the car down after and tighten the bolts that way you dont get premature wear on the bushings... tho u dont have to do this but it is a good tip to have the bushings last longer ... tho i love your videos keep it up bro 🙏🏼
Love watching this build. I had a red 2000 civic ex couple like this one in college, and this brings back memories. This was the first car I bought myself too.
Throw on a rear subframe brace and rear sway bar! It really stiffens up the rear, but it causes the rear end to rotate so much and it neutralizes the natural understeer when driving aggressively and induces oversteers. I thought it made fwd fun!
I bought the same exact impact gun Milwaukee Fuel 18v 1/2" and it is a MONSTER. Everything you said about that tool 100% accurate. I cant believe how many years I went without one. Got sick of it and I love this thing!!!
hey Anthony one thing that will help strengthen your handling is to get the ASR subframe with the sway bar that comes with it you should look into that,I have that on my EG6 and it handle great on tight corners & Apex on the track
Rear disc isn’t as easy as it sounds if you do it the right way. I have accumulated a master cylinder, brake lines, trailing arms, new LCAs, new bolts, new ebrake cables, new control arm bushings, and also a new proportioning valve. Now I need the tool, calipers, discs and pads. It. Takes. Forever.
Thank for these videos Anthony. I just took the dive into building my Civic starting with Skunk2 suspension and LCA's. Your videos simplified the process and helped me install them flawlessly with the exception of broken bolts in the rear lmao.
Glad we both seemingly had to wait forever for the same part! Get the rear subframe brace! It's totally worth it and adds a bunch of rigidity to the rear, as well as providing mount points for a rear sway bar :))
Good job on the install, Not quiet sure why people have to dislike videos with good info for others that are looking for a good DIY video. The holes on the LCA (Lower Control Arms) are for Sway Bar end link positioning. Get yourself a rear Sub-frame brace (ASR, Hardrace, etc) and a Stabilizer bar either OEM EK9 or a good quality one and it will be a night and day difference on handling.
I will tell you that as a professional auto technician. I use that exact same Milwaukee impact. And I have virtual no problem removing any bolts or nuts. Oh, and PB blaster is definitely without a doubt your friend.
Super nice build bro I’ve been following for a while I have a Em1 and your littler mods here and there I’m following. Haha thanks for the videos. Keep them up. 👍🏼
I just replace the lower control arms and rear struts on my 99 civic sedan last week. First bolt I tried to take off the head snapped off. That project became a real pain. Definitely wished I waited long enough for this video to come out lol. It would have made that job a hell of a lot easier. I'm going to have buy an impact wrench now.
@@ALLDAYANTHONY I made the mistake of not even looking into the project before I started. The original intention was only the struts but replacing everything was the easier solution once the problem emerged.
That impact is the best buy you can make, if you can't afford this one I really recommend the Harbor Freight Impact Wrench for anyone looking into getting one.
Clean car. You can go bigger on tires in the future it will take some modifications to your wheel well. My Integra is on 225/50/R16 and I didn’t roll my fenders (Type R fenders aren’t cheap). Nice evo in the background too. 🙌🏻
i wish mine were that easy. i'm doing lower control arms and a subframe brace on my 97 civic and had to drill out the one under the drum and now i'm just taking the whole rear hub and everything off and just replacing every bushing possible
Hey Anthony, I scrolled through the comments and didn't find anything regarding an alignment. I'm looking to replace the rear lower control arms on my 94 civic just like in this video. Is it true that you need to get an alignment done after installing new control arms? Thank you
I used Milwaukee impacts when i was a mobile tire guy and they are amazing tools. But my buddy bought an earthquake from harbor freight and I’ll they’ll talk that although it’s not as smooth as the Milwaukee it’s still good.
I been researching LCAs lately and seems like since function 7 has gone out of business, skunk2 alpha and ultra series are the best, make sure you check those bushings in those LCAs often, under heavy loads they wear out fast
@@ALLDAYANTHONY thats good, even skunk2 had issues with their bushings and had to redesign the lca but that spherical bearing looks great and for around 200 you cant beat it
Hey man, love your work I’ve learned a lot about my 01 d17 from watching you but something just caught my eye in this video, you showed you adjusting the right side coil over but didn’t show you adjust the left an I just wanted to know if you had to adjust the left side coil as well? Thanks
Are you running a rear sway? I ran a GSR oem 14mm rear sway on my EJ8, ran well and held in the canyons. Its a easy install and only thing you need is nuts, bolts, washers on each side of the sidewalls, endlinks and the sway bar.
Just a tip, don’t do them up fully until the car is at its resting height as it will twist the Bush and shorten their life span (that goes for anything with a Bush) also, other than looks and new bushes what purpose does this mod serve? I’d love to do it to my ek hatch but I’m just wondering if they have anything to do with improving handling or ride quality etc
I know this is an old video, but it seems like the reason the coilover stickers were not facing to the outside is because you had them swapped from left to right. If you swap sides the stickers should face the outside while the welded nut will be towards the front of the car.
Are there any suspension kits you’d recommend for replacing all suspension parts like upper/lower control arms etc basically anything with bushings? Or need to buy separate?
I’m running the same setup except with the Konig hypergrams on my eg. Had some rubbing issues but only because the car was too low raised it and have not had any issues since.
Simple install but great video 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾😁, and I got the ryobi 1/2 impact, u have other ryobi stuff so having extra batteries is great. By the way I like that 4runner outside the garage 👍🏾
How are these holding up so far ? Bushings still in good condition. I’ve been looking for a pair but I’ve read a lot of mixed reviews on aftermarket LCAs so can’t decide on what to run on my setup that will serve it’s purpose.
Dunno about stronger, the factory LCA is pretty strong. But yes, good upgrade because you get the bushings and adjustable swaybar mounting points. Hey get a swaybar next ;)
I recently had rear struts installed on 2001 civic, and the main ride going fairly fast seems better, but still get loud thunking bang sound when slowly going over curb or bump, and now got hideous squeak going too. I wonder if its these control armsneed replacing now. It sounds like its to do with whatever the new stronger struts are interacting with, and it does sit higher now which it had not been for a long time. I got the struts from autozone (duralast) about 3 weeks ago and I've told mechanic about noises and he just said hmm that's weird. It looks like theres no sense just replacing the bushings? I didn't realize there were 6 there in total. Whenever it gets wet out, plus I sprayed some lubricant, it goes away temporarily, but now left groaning squeak wont go away as I maneuver around in lots, and of course thunk noise still there and in Michigan, with crap roads everywhere. Id appreciate any suggestions, of course no one knows anything about Hondas except dealer ship who wants $100 to inspect it.
You're not supposed to finish tightening and torqueing suspension bolts till the car is on the ground (or you jack the suspension to ride height). It prevents unnecessary twisting of the rubber bushings and gives them a longer life. I recommend you go back and loosen them a little and torque. Now you need an ASR rear brace and oem Type R 22mm rear sway bar.
Great video only thing I would do different is tighten the LCA bolts under load. Tightening the lower control arm...or any suspension component at full droop puts unnecessary stress on the bushings and can cause adverse handling problems.
Hi ! I watched this video to help me, I gonna restore completly the suspension on my EK3, but I got a question : Did you have some camber after installing the control arms ?
I know this video was a while ago but what nuts did you use for the top of your truhart coilovers? I tried to put my stock ones on and it stripped them☹️ but the fronts went on fine
Hey like your vlogs. I noticed you still got the rubber molding on the rear quarter panels. They tend to rust cause of them. Just a heads up. Keep up the great videos.
