Strongest earthquake in 25 years rocks Taiwan, killing 9 people and trapping 70 workers in quarries 

Good building codes saved a LOT of lives! Hope we are this prepared here in LA. We have a saying here, "The big one is coming".

It was the strongest one in 25 years, and 9 people died. That is a testament to how far our building technology has progressed. I still remember the one that happened in California when I was a kid, and seeing the amount of instant death reported on the news. That building that tipped to 45degrees; there are not even any broken windows on that thing. It just sort of tipped over and hit the restraints and was like "nahh, I'm good right here".

Tragic. I pray for those who lost their lives or were injured. But thank goodness the Taiwanese are competent and, unlike China where their earthquakes kill thousands more than it should have, have well constructed buildings.

I think this news guys advice about being on a bridge during a quake is terrible. Don't stop, get the hell off of it as quickly and safely as you can. Same goes for being under a bridge. Get clear of it.

I lived in high risk disaster area where earthquake happened almost everyday but with epicentre mostly in the middle of the sea. So I almost forget 7.4 is madly dangerous 😢 7.4 I ever felt was like 'a bit shaky than usual 6.something, but hardly deadly' Bless your soul Taiwan! ❤

That means the big one is coming to California or Seattle in the next few weeks or within a month. I've been watching this plates move round and round from California across the ocean and back. It started at 3 then 4, then 5, and now 7. Scary.
