Why not use the stone steps as dual purpose entrance to the kitchen on the left & right side for stairs, rather than cut into the 3 meter kitchen floor space?

You should put the kitchen entrance at the bottom of the stairs… you are eating into the minuscule space of the kitchen…

Maybe you could have used your stone stair steps to access the kitchen also, ie go up he stone steps and turn right to go up the stairs or turn left to go into the kitchen. That way you'd only have one set of stone steps and you'd save space.

How about the kitchen entrance at the new stone landing level. with up to the second floor on the right and into the kitchen on the left. Two steps are used by both. You can save some room both in the kitchen and the entrance area by two steps used to one landing to two spaces both up and down. Two half walls along the corner of the kitchen over looking the other areas. and upper storage at the rear wall with plumbing for sink on rear exterior wall. You are doing a great job. Look out for those rocks in the kitchen floor area.

Good thing you don't have me helping you because I would dig up the whole kitchen and remove all the old stones. I am just too nosy . I would backfill the kitchen with small stones like you did with the lime mortar for a solid base with a mixture of lime mortar. Those old stones are hard to come by. I have the curiosity of a gopher, I just want to keep digging. I am going to sit back and see what course the kitchen steps take. You are the expert . I know you are going to come up with the best solution. Mind provoking video. Hello from Yakima, Washington, USA.

As for the white stuff, you did say (and show) that there is a sort of hole in the floor above it, assuming I understood the perspective correctly, and that there was some kind of washout from water under the floor near it. So, perhaps at some time in the past the floor was giving way in that area and someone poured some lime mortar into the hole to fill out a cavity and stabilize the floor. It's hard to tell if that's plausible just from watching the video.

@sweetsweetcandy3889
@sweetsweetcandy3889 Месяц назад
Also the holes in the floor could have been made trying to locate saltpeter. It was used to make gunpowder. Could you imagine a man digging up a woman's floor to make gunpowder. I bet she was fuming. Yes, they did dig up the floors looking for it.

My Uncle max was a stock and land agent. so was his son [funny that, beside the point] but, he had wood step/s up to the kitchen dining area and stairs, similar to what your doing. altho go left and your go to the lower front room and the front door at another level again but, similar to what I think your trying to to get to. One of his m8s did the job. Don't argue with Sam! I think you should probe that whitish bit under the floor, if its as old as you think it might be so old, worth money to a musem or somethin. Anyways, thanks m8, stay vertical, til your bendin over, and watchya back Eh!

You don't have much of this clay stuff left behind you could actually take it all down but I think I understand why you wouldn't to accommodate plumbing or something as you mentioned. I just worry there is water sitting under it further back or it's damp or something is growing under it. You wouldn't be needing the stairs though not sure how you would accommodate the plumbing issue. The wall would still work there however tall you have it. Open format doesn't work in this kind of home it limits storage and functionality. I am sure you will work it out as you do Sean. I liked that tile you showed us the previous video. Ryan still has those tiles you are looking for ;)
