I totally agree. This is me! I started with portrait photography and felt unfulfilled. It was a good way to learn to shoot, but it didn't work with me creatively. Then I shot landscape and rural stuff. That was better but I still wanted something different. Now I shoot street photography and I love it. There isn't as much money in street photography for me, but it moves me so I am happier.

Exactly! That's exactly what I mean in this video. It's crucial to experiment to get to know where our passion is! :) So nice to hear that you found it in street photography. As you say, not much money involved but it's what you truly love. It should be all that matters! :) Then, you can always shoot within other niches to make some income. ♥️ Big hug!

Hello Laura, from Colombia, I found this video looking for some guidance because I am in this point in my life where I really want to dedicate my life to photography and I wish I wouldn't have to come back again to a monday to friday boring job I don`t like, but I've been kind of rushing my self in the wrong way on this craft to push my self to make enough money with this to dedicate me entire time to it, but you don't know how much weight you just remove from my shoulders, just nailed the point I've been dealing with, and it is because we love this, it is a passion, that we shouldn't approach this chasing money, instead, we must dedicate and become pretty well at what we love and then and only then with time, money will follow.

I definitely agree with your logic! I would love to do stock and product photography to get my feet wet in the industry, but then work hard at landscape and portrait! 😊

Thanks Laura in all your input. Your words spelled-out what was in my mind. I tried other things, but portrait really moves me as you pointed-out. Because of that, I invested in some studio setup. Money has not been the driver, though I need to start learning that aspect from your other stock photography videos. I hope I can be 10% as good as you in all that you do and provide.

Thank you! So many photographers out there saying you should choose your niche and stick to it asap. I'm just starting out, I don't know yet what I like and I can't yet say no to the money and frankly the experience. I can easily get stuck in my head overthinking the best way to do something instead of just doing it. So, it's good to know I don't have to decide everything now.

You are very welcome! Exactly. Photography is a beautiful journey and you have to experiment with a few niches first till you fall in love with one. 😍 Plus, you can love more than one. My main niche is portrait photography but I love doing wildlife, landscape, lifestyle… It’s good to show in your portfolio your main one but that doesn’t mean you can’t keep shooting other categories. Explore, learn and have fun! 😍📸

Muy buen video Laura y muy buenos consejos. En mi caso hago fotografía como hobbie, y si bien me gusta más retrato y arquitectura, también saco a todo lo que veo y me gusta. Me compré hace un tiempo unos fondos para retratos y nunca los usé de vago, así que los voy a sacar y empezar a usar para ver que sale. Saludos y feliz cumple atrasado!

I do primarily sports photography for the school I work for, but I would really like to do dramatic portraits, but i am trying to understand lighting better.

Hi Amy! I will try my best. I normally speak super fast and in Spanish even faster. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve tried many times but when I forget, I start to speak fast again. I will try harder to slow down. 🙏🏼
