awh i totally get when Emily said about not wanting to go over 10mph. i started to learn to drive in my car with my dad before having lessons and 10-20mph was my comfort zone ahah. i had about 10hrs of practice with him - going up to 30mph, and then started lessons. on my second lesson i drove comfortably at 60mph and even did a big busy roundabout. those 10hrs in my car really built my confidence for proper lessons bc i knew that my instructor had control too. third lesson was big roundabouts :)

I passed today with only 2 minors. I’m just making the rounds to my favourite driving channels to say thank you so much for the help. My instructor was brilliant and taught me well and these RU-vid channels helped me learn between lessons. So, again, a BIG THANK YOU. Conquer Driving helped me big time with clutch control, gears and steering. You were a big help during the first month of my driving lessons and the mock tests you did were soooo helpful in preparing myself for the real test.

What a sensible young lady, I think she's going to do very well. Props to you as well Richard for being so calm, and patient with her. I think Emily is doing fantastically during these lessons. Also, whether she realises it or not, being recorded and it being posted online for thousands of people to see is just going to make things harder no matter what. I think she shouldn't be so harsh on herself or compare her abilities to anyone else!

Like Emily I struggled with steering early on in my lessons; in fact my instructor told me that out of the hundreds of people he'd taught I was BY FAR the worst case he'd ever seen! 🙈 But with a few more lessons (and a small amount of private practice with my partner on weekends) I gradually improved. I passed my test (first time with no minors 🥳) last November and been driving for 9 months now; I still have to pay attention to my lane discipline as it seems that my brain is sometimes trying to sabotage me (I suspect I might have a form of dyspraxia although I've never been formally diagnosed) but with experience I continue to get better at it and I certainly feel I'm a safe driver. ☺️ So Emily, keep practising and I promise soon you will have forgotten all about any issues with steering! Onwards and upwards, you're doing great! 🙌🏻

I am 45 and I passed my manual practical test 2 days ago at first go. I had been watching your vids a lot and they helped massively. I also had a very calm and patient instructor. Interestingly, what helped me the most to overcome the initial anxiety was my passion for sim racing, both rally and GT3. My muscle memory for gear changes, steering, mirror checks, etc was all in place and ready. I remember you had a vid on City Car Driving and I used that game as well. Also Euro Truck Simulator. All of this together made for an easy pass. All the best. Lukas

What an instructor you are Richard! Emily was terrified as she said it but then was asking you if she could show off her right turns. The look for gaps technique will prove a big help to me hopefully, as I’m always swaying, I’ll use this on my lesson tomorrow. The ability you have to make a learner feel so comfortable is also brilliant as the communication Emily has with you is fantastic which will prove a big help in future lessons as she will feel a lot more comfortable and confident. My previous instructor did not talk to me ever and made me feel tense and anxious at times. Also, I like the way you don’t intervene all the time for instance, telling Emily she’s about to hit the curb instead of straight up grabbing the wheel. Keep up the good work! 😊

Subcribed to the channel ! Emily is an amazing student - with the right tutors, she can learn brain surgery! What I think is so great is that she has little trouble voicing her thoughts and feelings, for example the final point about her best friend and how she already feels significantly behind him. This is great for her as it makes Richard's job easier as he can avoid the guess work and dive straight in with his teaching. But it is even better for any learner driver watching this who may experience the same concerns/anxieties/pressures and find it difficult to voice them. Her progress from Lesson 1 to Passing will be a great series and I look forward to it! Keep at it Emily!

Great videos! Emily seems like an eager learner, and rewarding to teach. I hope she doesn't mind sharing more lessons with us. Driving since 97, and in some years possibly supervise my daughter. It's so nice to get see an instructor in action, to learn methods of teaching, to be aware of my own driving, trying not to pass down my bad habits. While driving car, I realize I've adopted some habits I learned from my motorcycle instructor. Lateral positioning to improve line of sight. Se others, and make others see you in time to react.
@ConquerDriving
@ConquerDriving Год назад
I recommend positioning early when safe for a better line of sight with my pupils. Better than driving up behind a parked car and then jumping out like a jack in the box to surprise the oncoming vehicles. In my opinion, early positioning applies to bikes and cars.
@thorbjrnhellehaven5766
@thorbjrnhellehaven5766 Год назад
@@ConquerDriving yes totally agree it applies for both, but because a car has four wheels, there is less room for lateral positioning than with a motorcycle. And I remember there were more focus on position with MC, rarely to stay in center, but always thinking about where is the best position to see more and to be seen. The other day, my father was a passenger while I was driving. After passing a cyclist, he questioned why I "almost ran her down", because I stayed so long on my side of the road, But there was a slight curve, and I didn't want to cross early, and reduce my line of sight. If the curve were the other way, I would cross early to extend my line of sight,

I passed my test 15 years ago but now I am driving a larger vehicle from my wheelchair which is fitted with spacedrive controls and I feel like I have regressed somewhat as I am not fully comfortable driving without a steering wheel. However these videos are still really helpful, but I feel Emily's "pain" as it is scary and an intimidating process for many. She's doing great and I love how you teach. Personally I would be interested in seeing some driving session/lessons with adapted vehicles and disabled drivers as well, I've found there to be a gap in the market with limited driving instructors qualified in this field and many struggle with instructor availability, myself included.

I'm doing lessons here in Ireland and my number one problem is steering and gauging the distance from the curb so this is helping loads! tysm

I remember my instructor used to say that the car will go where you're looking, so if you're looking forward and trying to turn a corner, you'll take the corner more widely. I passed my test first time but it was after a long time as a learner and it would have been amazing to have had resources such as your channel - though RU-vid wasn't even a thing at the time!

It is such a nice feeling when you get the hang of the clutch thing, and can just be ready to go and then meet the clutch with the appropriate amount of accelerator so the car just goes away and you can let go of the clutch within a few meters and the RPM stays low and smooth. It takes A LOT of practice, but when it finally goes there... Ohh, sooo nice! And then when doing hill start and you just do it, without parking brake, without rolling back any real amount (you always will have a slight roll unless you have like my last manual (now i have automatic, with the same function) hill start assist, where the car stays on the brake for you when going off.

My driving instructor in germany wasn't nearly as good . At my first lesson he asked me if i could drive. I said that i can drive a little bit And he took me on a 40km ride at night to the nearest City. Never explained anything about the car because i was learning in a Workshop so i knew the most things. But i passed first try at my test and your videos helped a lot even if they weren't ment for the german roads.👌

I'm on my 5th lesson I think and was struggling with my steering crossing my arms so I've been working on that and round abouts (I am doing automatic now not manual due to disability) So that's how I'm at the point of doing roundabouts and main roads now. But this helped with turning as I sometimes would steer too late and have to swing the car round. My driving instructor Jamie craddock Highley reccomended this channel to watch to recap on things I've done each lesson otherwise I get better with one thing then go backwards with something else that I previously was progressing with.

Hi Richard, Great to see you on live providing driving knowledge for learner drivers. I asked some you while back if you could provide some driver videos on night driving as this type of skill driving is seriously lacking on RU-vid. It's worth knowing that it will be night driving early November in the UK very soon. Please help !!!😊😊😊😊

The best driving advice I ever heard was "steer with your arms, not your hands" - Tiff Needell.

She's doing just fine, she's definitely "getting" it. I hope she sticks at it. She takes it seriously in terms of being safe and that's very good. I think she'll end up being a good driver.

I enjoyed this video wayyy more than I expected! This was so fun! I got my license a few weeks back. We have lower standards for passing the test where I live, and the driving school also teaches you very little. That translates to like 30 classes total, but it's just a maximum of 10 minutes each. So I'm continuing to watch your videos to make sure my basics are solid. I've already driven some hundreds of kilometres.. 😁 and watching videos like these gives me a confidence boost thinking how much I've grown. I still have many weak points, like changing gear right when I'm turning. ( I have an old car with more stringent gear changing requirements.) My major weak point that I've noticed on my own is when I get on to a highway from the opposite side (and I have to cross one lane to get to my lane) my car wobbles, sort of, indecisively, before planting myself on the left-most side of the track to gain speed. (Right handed drive here btw. ) I'm always afraid I'll trouble the person coming on from behind. I guess I should just wait longer for a more clearer road before taking off. But that's really impractical in the busy roads of India. 43:35 "My amazing right turns!" lolol so kawaii! Haha.. Awesome video.. I guess my longer comment is proportional to the longer video. (that I never thought I'd watch the whole length.) Cheers!
