I lean towards seeing more photos even if they're not perfect because it's interesting to see what catches the photographer's eye. In fact a photo and explanation of why something didn't quite make the grade is a very good way to learn.
It's good to know that others struggle with late Autumn challenges when the leaves fall. Truly appreciate the thoughts on the approach and seeing viable images.
I think the first image worked better than the final image on this occasion Tom, to me had a more autumnal vibe to it. Hopefully your trip up North will be productive and nature is holding on to its colour for you to bag some images
Thank goodness you confirmed what I've been thinking Thomas. I thought it was just me that was experiencing leaves only just changing colour and then already falling off the trees in significant numbers...so much for me getting more autumnal photography in this year. Perhaps you could upgrade your van to the loaner van, sell your current van to give Adam Gibbs's a better van...then happy landscape photog's all round...just a thought like 😊. Thanks for the video. Take care.
Great video Thomas - I love the first image. Down here in Devon, it's a bit of a mix. Some nice colour, but most of the trees are still fairly green. It's also very mild, with little wind, so peak autumn may be some way off yet.
That last shot is something I wouldn't even though about. Or more to say; ignored by choice. But I can see now how all the photos, once slightly edited, actually are quite nice.
Scotland has the best colours this year that I’ve ever seen and continues to do so as of 30/10/24. I hope you manage to choose the right location next time you are out 🤞.
North east England suddenly changed almost overnight, I got a few good shots but no where near as much as last year. I've had to come away to Derbyshire where there is still a lot of colour thank goodness.
Great video Tom. Hope the knee is much better. Would have been nice to see you using the special edition Hasselblad, trolling a particular photographer…😉
I feel the same. What happened to the autumn?!! It's not any different from all the last years, really. But the early summer made me think it would both last longer and be warmer. But no, it's just standard. Although, it's quite random where it's gone and where it's still in full action.
Worry not my friend, if it's not autumn in your place anymore, you can always go further south where it hasn't fully hit yet. In France it's usually at its peak in early november in the northern regions (at sea level ofc) and late november in the south of the country. Or next year you could do what I do, visit Scandinavia in september, to have autumn enjoyment there, then have it a second time coming home.
Strange thing is thomas, last week i i drove from wales to glen affric and the colours were still fanrastic there, but on the way up i saw how the leaves had gone in England!
Autumn is still happening in the south :) too windy in the mountains. You need to visit the fen lands. 2m below sea level we don't get the gusts you get in the mountains. You should hit up local man Stewart McGlennon. If anybody knows the best autumn spots in the lakes that guy probably does
Thomas I think your were suffering from Seperation Anxiety as you Delica was not there!! I like the 2nd image with the birch trees and the remaining leaves.
Tom, I heard some !@#$% recently disrespect you for removing unnecessary things out of your images to improve or restore the beauty in your works. That is what artusts do to simplify and remove people man made objects and things to make art work like all artist throughout the history. Keep up the good work.
Have you tried any vertical panning ICM shots? About 1 second shutter at 100mm or so? Makes great use of the exposed tree trunks and splashes of leaf color remaining.
Thank you for the lovely, inspirational videos. I am just coming back into photography and I need to get a tripod and head. I mainly take stills/panos of the landscape. Is your recommendation still a IFOOTAGE Gazelle TC7 and Acrotech pano head? Seems a lot of money. Don't want to make a mistake :) Thanks again.
Thomas, when you say you struggled to get an image at a beautiful place, do you solely mean wide angle landscapes? I find there’s a huge array of images in dull situations simply by zooming in. In fact, you could argue the more you zoom, the closer to a guarantee you are for an image (as in, you get closer to abstract detail shots, or even macro)
Lovely video as usual. On the second image,at 13:17 i would like to say that i like the edit but the crop you made, not at all. You said that you dont want trees on the edges sticking out and you did exactly that with cropping in and also ruins the balance in my opinion. Thank you for sharing!
I was watching carefully here in Belgium to make sure I didn’t miss the best colours. But it seemed to change overnight from green & brown to dead n brown! No inspiring colours at all.. Now hanging dead leaves
Tom: I have not read any comments so what I write is unbiased. Your last 2 words of the title you wrote are "Autumn Photography". This had none of that. I am certain you will get tons of commenters telling you this is some of the best they ever saw. Just like they hated my comments on your wind is great video, they won't like me here any better. This video was made from desperation to shill for your advertiser as the video had zero autumn photography in it. I am sure you are under contract and pressure as you must produce something for the advertiser or you don't get paid. That said, why not name the video, I failed to find autumn and so I will shoot naked trees? That would have resolved all issues. I hope this helps, but may the fanboys begin their attack and tell me how me telling you the truth is hateful.
@@ianmcdiarmid4563 Wow, you are a real thinker. Let's see, not watch the show and never know what I missed or watch it and leave a valuable comment to help Tom, but then get to deal with inept individuals like yourself? That is a dilemma... for you.
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto Every comment I leave is meant to help. Sometimes, harshness or directness is needed to make the point come alive. You did not disagree with my points that led to the conclusion. So I know the pressure for content is overwhelming. i do not fault you for making a living whatsoever. I'm glad you do it. I'm also glad you are at least recognizing not everyone has to fall at your feet with praise for you to hear them. There is hope.
This may sound silly, possibly with a bit of OCD kicking in, but I wanted to congratulate you on pronouncing "Autumnal" correctly -three syllables. Most people try to add a 4th syllable - "Autuminal." Thank you!!
