In this video I review the Stryd Duo. First I give an overview of the Stryd Footpod. Then I go through some new features of the Stryd Duo system. Finally I see if I can recommend them
As always there are chapter markers down below so you can skip through to the parts you might be interested in.

Definitely useful for recovery from injury if you have a base line from before the injury.. Can also warn of an injury in the making.. Pattern before the injury ❤

I will be trying to establish a base line, though I have picked up an injury that I hope will go away before Christmas...bah humbug!

I recently bought a next Gen Stryd, the duo was also launched at that point. I thought about buying two but decided there is not enough info at this moment on how to analyse the data and use it to your advantage. So decided to save myself the money, I can allways upgrade later.

Smart move. I think the duo will have limited appeal. I love it and have a use, but for most the information from one Stryd is super, and the additional information fairly limited...

I've replayed the video 3 times now and I keep tuning out and focusing on other things and forgetting to listen! 😂😂 Tech is just not my thing at all!! I've had my very first Garmin watch for 5 days now and yes I'm enjoying it, but going VERY slowly indeed in learning how to use it ... I know why I just stayed with the Runkeeper app for almost 4 years, it's relatively basic and simple enough to use very very quickly, perfect for my tech attention span!!😂 Barry, ENJOY!!!💪🏻🏃‍♂💪🏻 "Run Happy" is my motto and this seems like an awesome addition to your running happiness!!🙋🏻‍♀

I think Run Happy is the best motto there is. I always need something to get me out the door and playing with Tech is my favourite excuse! There is so much stuff on my Garmin that I have never used...still love it though, hope you enjoy yours!

@@bev9708 Bev, we choose how and why we do it BUT in the end it's just running. As for your garmin... the holy trinity is PACE + HEARTRATE + POWER ... Send through your garmin questions = happy to help.

I like your idea with diff shoes. I wonder how it will correlate to just how you feel about your run in each. It seems that I get higher power readings in certain shoes and attribute it more to how it lays on top more than anything. But I’ve not analyzed it…
@OldManRunner

I am going to try and make some form of consistent analysis. Ideally by running at a few constant paces and see what I can find, and also use my sensory experiences. Ideally the test would be repeated using a lot of different people, doing the same thing...but needs must and I will see what I can find out...

Been a Stryd user for nearly 3yrs now, never had a bad race since. I know exactly what I can do on a given course (when loading a copy of the course file, est temp and humidity on race day). The last gen pod required me to set it at 3sec average, since it was just a weeeee bit too jumpy. The newer pod with the 5 times greater polling has worked great in realtime. So far the support and information provided for use cases by Stryd has been limited on the Duo. I mostly saw it was a physio tool when returning back from injury or trying to address clear running imbalances. But it never occurred to me to use it to analyze different shoes. I have used the base metrics to give me insight into the raw running efficiency between shoes. But the 3D plotting of runs across shoes could really provide some insight...which is making reconsider buying the 2nd pod to run in Duo mode. 1st world problems LOL

Tim. I forgot to mention the piece about setting the average to get the power jump smoother. I also forgot to mention that Stryd told me they are updating the interface on the Apple Watch, which I very much welcome. I am going to try and do some analysis using the Duo Footpath on a treadmill with two different shoes and three different paces. My plan is to film it and see if I can match the filming to the Footpath in some way, or point out how the shape on the Footpath trace is derived and changes with the shoe and the pace. A bit complex, but will see what I can find out.

@@OldManRunner I've been trying to fix my excessive cadence (200spm in last half marathon, and 197spm in last marathon). It's mostly fixed now until I seriously fatigue. So might be another reason I MIGHT consider the Duo. Time will tell.

Crikey that is some cadence! My cadence is okay but my stride is too short, as are my legs...

🙏 Barry, this is the review I've been eagerly waiting for. I have a previous gen stryd, and I use their membership for their weekly workouts. It all syncs and runs through my garmin. Power is something I regularly check on my runs - all runs, easy through to racing. The stryd zones work well with HR zones. But it's the recent addition of Footpath which got me really interested. I'm glad to see that it showed a considerable graphic difference between your easy and faster running. I'm hoping to use Footpath to assist me in my running form (technique) analysis - drills / strides, easy running, fast running, etc. Do you think Footpath will be able to monitor that closely enough? Or is its graphic data a long way from filming yourself running? I know it will only show motion of my feet, and the rest of the body motion is essential to running form too. But surely Footpath's visual representation of motion helps us understand the endless numbers we get from vertical oscillation, ground contact time, foot balance, etc. data?
@OldManRunner
@OldManRunner 7 месяцев назад
I think the data will be quite nuanced and will take a little bit of careful analysis. My guess is that as the data exists Stryd may do some work on how to communicate it to you in simpler ways, e.g Bartek did you know that on your run on Christmas Day your left back leg lift was lower than usual etc. In the meantime I think it will be really useful to make comparisons if you can have a controlled way of collecting comparative data. Hence I will be looking at the data on the same straight road I run along by the beach. With some luck I will be deep diving into this with the Vaporfly 3 v Alphafly 3. I will also try to compare it to high speed high resolution photography. It might be very useful on the treadmill where pace wind and gradient are easily standardised...more to come I guess...

Can the Stryd also be used for step counting when not running? Thanks.
@OldManRunner
@OldManRunner 5 дней назад
Not directly. Stryd will measure the cadence. Stryd say you can use this formula; Cadence x Minutes = Steps. To be honest most smart watches and smart rings will do a better job and I would only use this if no other options were available
@rainerrain9689
@rainerrain9689 4 дня назад
Thanks for reply ,that being said ----> watches and rings do a terrible job counting steps. If you're not moving your arm when walking it doesn't work correctly. Guess what, when walking your LEGS are ALWAYS moving.

I am on the fence.. One stryd is quite useless but I do use it daily... Definitely using the duo adds much so I am between stopping with the one I have (paying €9.95 pm) or getting a second one. Without subscription it's worthless.

The one Stryd is of little use for me. But if I was using some other plans from say Training Peaks and I wanted to run with a Power meter it would work really well. But I like data, and lots of it!

Stryd is very useless for the purpose I’ve bought it. No accurate pace and distance when changing shoes. And power on trails or downhills are crap. Same for uphill running. If you have a high incline you can forget that stuff completely. Why should anyone buy two of useless pods? Will they be really more accurate? They are already hiding the distances from the pods to not tell the customer how different the calculations are. Will you really trust such a device for anything? Nope
