Excellent demo. Suggestion for Strymon (whom I love): Put this same pedal out without the "A" side. From my perspective and what I can tell from this demo, the Sunset is all about the "B" section. Rock on...

This is the ONLY Sunset review, and I've seen many, to give me a demo of just a taste of the expression pedal's functionality. Aside from having some of the best overdrive(s!) I've heard, that right there is an otherwise irreplaceable feature. I've been looking with interest at the "active mid-boost" circuit buried in the hardware of the Eric Clapton signature strat. I've known it was there for years "in theory," but I've only really started taking notice of how he plays it and why it's such an important part of his sound. You can't do his kind of dynamics on a stomp boost that comes itn at a preset level, you just can't. But I'm not so sure I would want to carve up one of my own guitars to put the technology in irreversibly. Enter the Strymon Sunset: I suspected (and you have now confirmed for me!) that you can set an expression pedal to deliver precise fine motor control on the level of a mid-boost feeding into your overdrive, which is exactly how he shapes his lead lines in ways that nobody else can nail the sound on. If you tab out a Clapton solo, it's pretty much all familar ground: after 60 years of influencing blues-rock players, pretty much everybody in a dive bar anywhere can play some of his stuff note for note. But "note for note" doesn't capture the tonal shape of his mammoth "I Shot The Sherriff" solos, any more than being able to sing "Nessun Dorma" note for note makes you sound exactly like Pavarotti. To my mind, controlling a beefy active mid-boost into your overdrive using an expression pedal is actually one step BETTER than doing it the way Clapton does, with an onboard knob. I need to try one of these things out, but if it behaves the way your review makes me think it will, I thin I'm a convert in spite of the price jump. As everyone else has said, Mitch is one of the best reviewers on the Web or anywhere else. I even put this next to the walkthrough with Pete Celi, the genius engineer at Strymon who actually BUILT the darn thing. That's a fantastic resource too, but it doesn't tell me what I needed to know. Your review did.

To anyone planning on purchasing this pedal, Before you buy be warned that you cannot turn the volume all the way down if the gain is turned up past noon. If the gain is up and you turn the volume knobs all the way down and then activate either side of the pedal, there will still be a jump in volume. You cannot turn the volume knobs all the way down for no sound or for very little sound to match all your other pedals on your pedal board. Strymon says this is by design.

Strymons are great Pedals, (Big Sky Included) but I don't know if I've ever been so disappointed in a company's customer service. They're good about responding via email but it still takes a long time to make any progress in tiny steps spread out over days. After quite a few emails, I requested a call so we could work out some issues real quick. They would not do so because their employees work remote. I recommended Zoom, Google Meet, routing through the office etc... but nothing. Even if I'm the idiot misunderstanding the manual (likely), for 2.5k worth of gear, you'd think Strymon would give a 10 min call to save hours of troubleshooting. So before you buy, do you value phone support? Or for that matter, does this make you think they'll go the extra mile? Sweetwater is great though.

Can you control the tone knob with the expression pedal? Like gradually boost the drive effect with my foot. Trying to get some confirmation before I buy

Hello ! I play blues and classic rock cover ( Gilmour, ZZ Top , AC/DC etc..) in a Fender deluxe 65. I look for a double OD pedal , warm, smooth and rough sounding if needed ! Which one pile the job ? JHS double barrel, sweet tea, this supreme ? Jam pedal ? Let me know please which one is awesome sounding ...kind regards from France,

What advantage is there to run the A and B sides in parallel??

this pedal sounds much better with fender single coil pickups.

Question about the noise gate, will it stay on if A and B are both off?
