If anyone is curious the Barber setting is in reference to a barber pole that spins and looks like it's endlessly going up or down. The name of this audio illusion is called a Shepard Tone. There are videos on RU-vid that demonstrate this sound if you are curious. Using the barber pole setting would remove the phaser's modulation going up and down and instead makes the effect sound like it's only moving in one direction.
@@honestnewsnet Jesus is the only one listening to our rambling thoughts, so it’s a conversation essentially …like Jesus, thanks for that breakfast muffin, it was good.
I always wonder why so many turn a phaser or chorus too fast it loses the beauty of the effect. This puppy does a wide stereo chorus that is just amazing, barber is either a constant rising or falling phase that does not modulate back and forth, very cool indeed. The ENV phase effect is utterly amazing. What a killer pedal!!
I bought this thing the day it came to my local shop... it sounds RIDICULOUSLY GOOD on everything! Guitar, Bass, Keys, my dinner... its gloriously cool!
Not bothered with the pedal but Mr Pete, what an amazing player. Goes from riffage and tapping to those Prince stretch chords in a heartbeat. I salute you.
Purple Rain used a Roland Dimension D SDD-320. If you want it in pedal form you can use a new Boss Dimension C Waza and use the SDD-320 mode (push selector 4 or 3 and 4 together) that gets you as close to that sound as any pedal I've heard.
Captain Lee you are a bit of a star and well done on a really great channel. Been watching for a number of years and you create some really great content but Pete is on a different level. Absolutely top drawer musician. Many are called but few are chosen.
The opening jam brought images of the Wonder Wheel and the subway train sequence from The Warriors to my brain. Those are some genuine 70's spacey phaser tones right there. Can you dig it?
That giggle at 11:09 sent me back to the days of What's New Scooby Doo show when I was growing up! I was so vivid I almost felt bad when there wasn't a Raggie afterwards lol
I know you’d lose the stereo output but try the phaser first, into the OD/Distortion. IMHO, it sounds better, still adds another dimension but edges smoothed out
I recently traded my Chase Bliss Audio Brothers Analog Gainstage for a Sunset... The Sunset makes the Brothers sound like crap. The Brothers is pretty good but the Sunset is on another level.. Seriously, in every single category it blows the Brothers out of the water. And it has a built-in noise suppressor that cleans up your signal annnd it has a bright switch that rolls off highs or boosts them, or is neutral in the middle... It's fantastic. When most drive pedals are $150-200, and the Sunset is essentially six pedals in one with bonus features, $300 is a good deal.
Guys, "Wendy Melvoin" is the name of the guitar player who played the iconic "Purple Rain" intro, here she explained in more detail what gear was used for the song > ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8F_IX4b85y8.html&ab_channel=VertexEffects
Yea, often over abused, but a lovely effect that can be dialled back to give just that 'certain something' to your sound. If it's subtle it can just sit there giving movement without anyone realising it's an effect. I guess the same as a lot of other fx tones that can be too in your face. I'm seriously considering this one to join my raft of Strymon pedals... such quality and just so useful: Thorpy for the front end and then all the delays and modulations coming from Strymon; so nice. I'd love for the guys to do a pedal board appreciation of this: Thorpy Fat General into parrallel Fallout Cloud and The Dane, going into a nice modeler with Strymon El Cap, Timeline, Zelzah, Cloudburst and Ultraviolet.
Never found anything that could replace my Phase 90....but this thing sounds amazing! Liking some of the "other" sounds it gets. Very cool! Nice playing Pete ;-)
Funny you say that, I replaced my script modded phase 90 for this. No regrets. It does anything phase 90 could ever dream of, and 100 other things on top.
I own all the Strymons and this is a typical 1st day with a new one. You don't even read the manual and start pressing buttons and turning knobs. You have 4 million, three hundred and 86 thousand, 714 settings but find three you like and save them. You can't figure out how to name them so you just go by its original name.
I have honestly never wanted a Strymon (well, maybe possible except for the Timeline, Volante and Blue Sky, but still not really) because of the money while not giving me much other pedals couldn't for half the price. Neither have I ever really been into phasers, but this... This sounds amazing and huge. A sound that can either be subtle or big while still not too "whooshy" (lol). Still too much money to currently make an excuse to buy, but I will for sure keep this one in mind. Thanks for the vid guys 🤘
A little disappointed that you couldn't get the envelope to really work. The MIX control has to be set at 12 o'clock so that the dry and wet signals are maxed. If you set everything on the 4 stage side to 12 o'clock it really gets the fullest phaser auto-wah.
Arrrgh you broke the rule guys! Anytime you do a phaser, you have to do the Shine on you crazy diamond riff! Apart from that, great sounds, but you would expect that from Strymon!
In our secular age, it's sometimes hard to remember that California's founding fathers were often very religious people. You can find one biblical reference on a Northridge street sign. Zelzah Avenue is one of the most colorful street names in the San Fernando Valley. Bill Robertson, director of L.A.'s Bureau of Street Services, says it's also one of the oldest streets. "It was part of a 19th century wagon route from San Fernando to the old Hawk Ranch, which became the town of Zelzah, which is now Northridge." Zelzah was a depot town for the Southern Pacific railroad. The name "Zelzah" comes from the Bible, but scholars disagree about its meaning. Some say it's the place where Samuel told Saul to go meet a couple of guys who had news about some lost asses. Other scholars say the name simply means noon. Given the street's railroad roots, either translation would be appropriate.
It sounds fantastic obviously, as all Strymon pedals do, but for the price I don’t know that it sounds better enough than the Boss pedals I have been using for the same effects for the last 2 to 3 years.
Need to add USA's Jerry Springer Show type fights and arguments to your pedal demos. I'm sure Pete has been going behind your back and playing with other pedals.
What did Pete have Victory change with the reverb on the DP40 vs V40? My DP40 arrives tomorrow and I can’t find many videos on them specifically but I’m very excited for it to come in!
Zelzah is a word from the bible, meaning, and I quote "... an expression of joy on the part of the men who announced the finding of the asses". Strangely appropriate for this video.
@@Trentstone121 I've moved from an EQD The Depths univibe to the Jam Ripple 2-stage phaser. 2 stage phasers are very similar to univibes but more subtle in their approach. If you get the chance you should try one, from one univibe lover to another
I swear, if I binged their videos and made a drinking game wherein I take a shot whenever they start preaching about tubes, I’d be dead from alcohol poisoning before morning.
Putting the overdrive/ distortion before the phase shifter is anti Van Halen. Of course Tom Morello has all his FX in the FX loop of his Marshall after the preamp.
if you're gonna intro jam that song, then point out epic Prince performances, just search for "Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne and others -- "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Come back when you're done, and we we can discuss where the hell that guitar went.
