One thing for sure is that I have never been disappointed in an Aircat. Also the Aircat never seemed to be as strong because you don't get as much vibration in your hands and arms which is a good thing. But it is just as strong if not stronger than every gun I have ever put it up against.
Great Video and Explanation...!!!! i hope you can help me … i got a CP7731 with a 3/8 …. i do use an Adapter for 1/2 Tools..... so pls let me know if i loose power with using an Adapter ? thx a lot
Any chance of getting a similar test on the Ingersoll Rand 35max. It's Ingersolls version of these guns and I believe it's extremely over rated power wise and would LOVE for you to prove this with your equipment. Awesome reviewing work though. You're incredibly thorough and organized. very impressive.
I have the Chicago pneumatic model show here. one cool feature you missed is. on the forward reverse selector. if you pull that forward. you can rotate it to the other side of the gun. for left and right handed operating. :)
just got the aircat 1055 today. haven't had a chance to use it yet but i need as much power as possible for working on trucks, looks like i picked the right one
Excellent review on the stubby impact guns. Your video is clear and in focus and the sound quality makes it easy to understand your narration. After I watched your review I bought the Aircat 1055-TH. I am very happy with the performance and feel of the Aircat. Plenty of power for DIY work in my garage. Now I need a good set of deep impact sockets. Keep the reviews coming!
Excellent video. You rock. How about doing a test of the Harbor Freight Earthquake XT 63534 stubby? It's length is the most compact I have found. I measured it in the store at only 3 7/8 long. It claims to put out 550 ft lbs. If it really does that, at only $115, it could be an excellent deal for tight spaces.
thats what I'm buying since 25% of coupon its like 80$ and they warranty their stuff very easily. Ive had my hf impact for over 10 years and its never once been lubed used daily and never let me down. For 100$ If it breaks tomorrow Ive saved way more money than buying a ir or snapon impact.
true but many times the clerk does not care. Sometimes if you dont have a coupon they will even scan their coupon for you. And on occasion you can get 20% of the entire order
I love IR and have a lot of their tools, however I have found other tool makers that make a better product. ir makes a nice tool however the name isn't worth it anymore. I mostly use CP and snap on for my air tools now
Good reviews, I have to ask why you test at 90psi? I know it's recommended for a lot of air tools and probably OSHA LOL but I've yet to work in or run a shop that didn't run the air system at 120psi. I believe that would be really world conditions and would affect the numbers. Btw, I love my IR231, it's the first air tools I bought new(35+yrs ago), a few rebuilds later and its still truckin'! I have an Astro nano also but still grab the IR!
I have the M7 impact and can say it does the job sometimes, but my ingersoll rand 3/8" impact does the job better at work. The M7 stays at home for whatever work needs to be done because it just isn't up to snuff for my uses at work.
Can you test the impacts with an air swivel to see if any power is lost I use all my air tools with swivels makes it easier to get in tight spots. Thanks for the awesome review
I noticed you mentioned these shouldn't replace a full size impact. Do you think these would be okay for a main impact for someone just doing DIY home auto repairs? The compact size really appeals to me.
A decibel reading would be nice too. I have the astro pneumatic onyx gun, it has only lasted me a year. I even rebuilt it after 6 months just to make sure it was well taken care of-total junk gun. It has no torque anymore. The CP and Cat gun are the same gun, just different muffler and external case machining. Cornwell tools sells this gun too as their brand and its blue.
You do great videos, but how can these 'not' be suitable for tyre lug nuts on a regular basis when they all put out 450-620ft lbs? I mean are most car and small truck nuts 80-150ftlbs? Sure a bigger full size gun would do it easier with less stress but I would have thought lug nuts would be well within ALL these guns parameters. Just ordered the Nano 3/8 Astro.
great review how about the mac awp308m and awp308 and the mac and matco stubby look just like the CP and the aircat are they just made by the same company? I really would like to see a review on the Mac awp308m and awp308 they look great and small but have to mac guy to check them out once again big fan love the reviews
Your video is absolutely the best very detailed and professional. One thing I would like to point out the Aircat does offer a protection cover for over the head of the wrench. I don't know if the other makes offer that. Thank you for posting the video.
The Astro Nano would be my choice . I have an old IR cheapo. You mentioned not for every day use and in my case it wouldn't be. It's just home use to remove lug nits and other bolts and nuts. It should last me right?
It looks like CP and Air Cat are the same unit and the M7 and Astro are the same. Numbers are consistent and build design are so similar that if they weren't the same manufacturer, there would be patent lawsuits filed by the patent holder.
I just bought the astro stubby and let me tell u its just as advertised very small powerfull enough to loosen break caliper bolts as well as r&r such as control arms struts even the hard ones like 24" nuts also I HAVE TO DISAGREE AS FAR AS THE CONTROLLING THE TRIGGER WOWITS VERY AMAZING VERY CONTROLLABLE!!!!!!!!! Best $100 ive spent on tools
i want to see a review on the Ingersoll Rand 35MAX Ultra-Compact Impactool, 1/2 Inch impact wrench fighting with the M7 and the Chicago pneumatic please, i want to buy one but dont know witch holds up better, witch is stronger, or witch one would be better for the buck. Can you please make a review on the Ingersoll Rand 35Max !!
I had some tires changed on my truck and the shop used cordless impacts on the lug nuts and they really cranked them down. I recently got the Astro 1822 and it couldn't take them off. Exchanged for another and had the same issue. I'm shocked at how well the tool performed in your review. My compressor meets the requirements plus I have 3/8" hose with type V high flow fittings throughout. Oh yeah, I used a torque wrench and the lugs were only torqued to about 220 lb ft which this impact should handle no problem. My first, and last, Astro tool.
trigger control has nothing to do woth stroke length. its all about using an impact and getting to the point where feel for it is second nature. the shop i work in has at least 4 of these Chicago Pneumatic CP7733-2 1/2-Inch Drive Heavy Duty Air Impact Wrench with 2-Inch Extended Anvil. My personal gun is the 2235 ti max. both are easy to control. the difference is the amount of power they have, and which one you learn I know my 2235 and i love it. No need for control on the CP's. they dont have enough full trigger power to need controlling. Get a gun and get used to it. each gun's quirks and differences are obvious at first. you may like some parts and not the others. so buy a powerfull impact, get over the tiny flaws, learn the trigger and power output, and get comfortable with the tool. a tool is a tool. there is no reason to be super picky over tiny differences like getting a gmc instead of a chevy. theyrl're the same except for the small things. end result of an impact is getting shit loose. go for power and reliability. getting used to the gun is 2nd nature
Daniel just a quick question idk if I've seen you do a review with the IR35 max or not wondering if you got any experience using it and what you thought I really like the look and design the best. I'm stuck on the IR and the proto 1/2 stubby. Would love to see a video with those in it also. Anyway if you've had any experience with the IR 35 max or the proto 1/2 I'd appericate your opinion. Thanks
Thanks that's the one my tool truck offers too but it's cheaper online. I recently bought the air cat 1150 and I love it. Liked deisgn and power as of the stubby not the most appealing to me. But it's work and not a tool show so I guess I'll suck it up. Hopefully the air cat does well. Even tho it's bigger and less power then the IR
Nice job!!! CP already has a new version that was launched in SEMA2015... CP7732C, 20% smaller and with other improvements.... pls take a look!!!! thanks
I bought the CP, after 6 months it started to leak air. I took it to the authorized repair center to get it fixed, they claimed it was my fault as I dropped it. I took it to my regular guy, and he said it was a manufacturer defect. He then told me that he knows about the "Authorized repair center" and that they pull shit like this all the time as CP only pays like 60% of their shop rate so they make up bullshit to get the full 100% from you. The warranty is pretty much useless, the gun was good when it worked but faile dearly. Not bothering with another CP product after that.
hmm if only you had the Ingersoll rand 35max 1/2 stubby impact wrench to test with the rest of the stubbies. now that would have been nice. hopefully you'll do on in the near future. ... please I'm debating on either the Chicago pneumatic or the ingersol rand.
Can you do a review on the m7 4232q , IR 35max and the oem 24418? My m7 lasted 2 years of use 6 days a week hard abuse before I broke the anvil and the oemtools lasted about 3 mins.
Do another one where you test them at pressures people actually run (did the MFG's not allow you to do this with their guns)? I personally don't care much what they make at 90psi, my CP seems to work okay at 90psi and doesn't do much better at 120psi - but I notice my newer twin hammer impacts absolutely kill at 120psi.
+Mustang Aficionado Most people do not have compressors that can handle that much output for extended periods of time. 90 PSI working pressure is what they are rated at....and anything above that will void warranties.
+Real Tool Reviews Regardless, unless these power levels scale linearly this info is only really relevant to the 20% of users who run their lines at 90psi (i've personally never even met one, but I know they exist). Did you at least start at like 95-100psi so when you use the tool it drops to a 90psi working pressure?
+Mustang Aficionado I run all my tests at 90 psi working pressure.....from what I remember on this one, that meant the static pressure was 105-110psi.....the larger impacts use more air & I bump them up to around 125psi static to get the 90 psi working.
hello great review. one thing though, I gave 2 nitro cat impacts (1/2 and 3/8) the problem that I have with them is the trigger, it does not have that control fill like ir titanium has, with ir it's easy to control trigger, from low to mid to high (impact speed) with nitro it's more of on off and no in between, you can but it takes more effort, I live the guns before each use. I know this review is not about them but is the nitro stubby same way...Also I had similar trigger design when Cornwall came out with it few years back and had problems with trigger popping out and dial getting stuck, have you put then through actual work and see how the hold up with use?
The nano is obviously the most well built amd well thought out , even if another is slightly more powerful....the size , build material and ergonomics speak for themselves .
How are the controls for each? Do the get in the way of your finder when using the tool? I recently purchased the Mac tools stubby impact and that is my biggest complaint about it. When holding it in your right hand the direction lever sticks into your finger as you operate the trigger
I have the aircat and it does put out some power. Guys at work will poke fun at it until they use it. A 3rd party mechanic borrowed it once and bought one himself soon after. So far it's been a good buy.
I have CP tools that grandpa used in heavy equipment shop for God knows how long and I still use today in the same settings for at least 15 years now for the price CP flat make since
Wow, definitely gonna pick up the stubby cp. I have the 1/2" high torque, but this would be more ideal for most applications. Much better to work with than the big bulky high torque.
Hey Daniel I wish you would’ve had that earthquake xt stubby! I don’t think it was out when you did this video. I have one and am pretty impressed so far
I have the CP and it is a bad little guy however its touchy. my ir is a lot smoother on the trigger, the CP just takes off fast but kicks ass when doing it
Daniel could you do a review on Hitachi's new updated reciprocating saw model CR18DGLP4 (bare tool) it has a led light and 3200spm . I have the older model that only had 2200spm.
Super informative review! Really helped me start to make a decision on a new impact. I'm really curious about the Hazet 9012m though, and its claimed 1100 Nm of torque, maybe another set of four stubbys with the CP7732C, Mac and Matco? still, a claimed 811 Ftlbs is almost tempting enough for that little Hazet
+Dave Bigg I saw them at SEMA.....I offered to review the entire line (2 versions of each size.....slight differences). We will see what happens.....but yes, I look forward to torque testing them & seeing where they actually stand.
Thanks for all of your extremely informative work! Nobody else compares to the comprehensive reviews you do - keep up the superb work! Question 1 - Can you review and compare the IR 1/2 in. 35MAX stubby to these stubbies? Question 2 - Can you do a similar comparison of 3/8 in. stubbies to includes the IR model 15QMAX? Thanks.
Thanks! I am planning a 1/2" composite comparison video......possibly a 3/8" also, but it will just depend on having an opening in the schedule. Lots more impact videos coming up.....stay tuned!
+林岳廷 I like the NC-4611 the best out of the M7 stubbies.....check out the M7 stubby comparison if you would like to see the numbers on those.....that is why I added it in this comparison. Also, keep in mind we are comparing ---- not ranking & picking one sole "winner".
+ThreeSixM3 Possibly. King Tony/M7 was purchased in November 2015 by another company.....they very well could have changed the warranty on new sales. Thanks for pointing it out!
+Real Tool Reviews bummer, but regardless I'm excited to try out my new 4611. bought it because of this video and other online reviews. any video in the works for the new matco 1/2" stubby impact?
