We have a lot of synthetic here in GA. Typically we'll fabricate onsite with a sidewinder for window/door trim, flutes, etc. Saves a lot of time and only requires a small cross section of the band. Stick it with a cementitious adhesive base boat and depending on the intricacy of the detail use standard or detail fiberglass mesh or add angel hair fiber to the mix. The acrylic coat is basically a 'sand' finish. All product lines have a different name for them (Finestone "mojave", Senergy "sahara", etc). Use the edge of a plastic float to get it where you want it. Keep up the work Kirk & Family!
Morning jnixongo dude, thats the idea, if you have foam molds and want to use again it's simple to save them with a technique called plunge cutting, takes about 20 minutes per window, but it sure saves a lot of time trying to find and buy similar molds. This video was kind of busy but I thought what the heck it may help someone. Best wishes, Kirk Giordano
Another fine prepared job kirk, i cant believe those Styrofoam molds cost so much! was that per window? Is it still easy to break once the finish has been applied to it?
Evening goldenalex, it takes as much time to destroy foam molds when removing then to simply cut them off. These foam pieces break into millions of foam balls that the wind take everywhere. Cut and save. BTW, the contractor has still not found these molds after many day searching, sawzall them off and save them. Do folks listen to old kirk? Cheers! Kirk Giordano
Hi Thomas, I use the reciprocating saw or "Sawzall" to do what is called a plunge cutting technique to get the blade started when cutting off styrofoam molds, the idea is to cut the cementitious bonding agent or sometimes just caulking that holds these molds in place. Remember it's less expensive and less time to consume to save rather than to buy new. Kirk giordano Plastering
Not 100% if its the case on this video but the flashing caught my eye.. oh man, do I love it when the window installers leave the flashing STUCK on the framing for us lath guys to unpeel! Great video as always and awesome tip saving the foam trims.
Hi A R Diaz, good eye brother, this peal and stick coat the sun too, so it took awhile to lift. yea, the old plunge cutting sawzall technique works well, save saves much time and money on new foam trim. Best wishes, Kirk Giordano
